I found this Kane brother much less likable than the Rowan from book one.
I also found this story to drag out a little too long. With too much drama in the 3rd act. But even with all that said. It was an engaging story that kept me interested.
Declan. Lancelot. Kane.

Sir...
This is one of the sweetest couples I have ever read about. The amount of love they have for each other and they don't even know it!!! Gah! They both had some terrible issues from their childhood to face but they were able to learn from it through the ones closest to them. The character growth was really good, in my opinion.
The way he knew almost everything about her before anything even happened! He is so sweet and genuine with her and I love the banter back and forth. It was a great book.
See, I swear, some people craves emotional damage. No matter that you're carrying a HUGE boulder in the form of some sort of childhood trauma on your back, you just keep asking for more. It's like some kind of an addiction, perhaps?
Declan Kane is a shitload of red flag, to be honest. He's so toxic, it's revolting. I get it he is suppose to be the grumpy type, the brooding type, but no. He's an asshole through and through, there's no two ways about it. Even if he does all these sweet things for Iris, he is still a selfish prick. I could not stand Declan Kane, to be honest.
And Iris is always laughing? I mean, what the hell is wrong with you? Declan treats you like shit, and you laugh it off, almost all the time. Are you deranged? Are you so emotionally damaged that you feel like shitty behaviour is so funny? Everytime the words Iris laughed her raspy laugh appears, I wanted to pull my hair out. It. Grates. On. My. Nerve. Happy FMC is good. Happy FMC is sweet. But unreasonably laughing? Girl, you better check yourself in an institution.
Please. Please take me out of this misery.
Honestly, I like this book better then the first one. I gave the first one 5 stars, so this also has to be 5 stars aswell.
Iris was a great character, she has brains, is capable of thinking all by herself and knows what she wants. Declan was the perfect grumpy boss. Really enjoyed this book.
im so invested in these characters!!! & cal is so different from the other two idek what to expect from the next book :o
I'm possibly being generous giving 3 stars. Declan has zero personality! Also, he's not grumpy he's just a full out jackass. Then after the big fight I feel like she just forgives him and all is well with the world...I also hate the pregnancy trope but at least I KNEW it was coming from the beginning.
i started this not really liking declan that much, honestly. but towards the end, i will started understanding why he is the way he is. the last 30% really sold me that i love him! i do admit, i loved every scene with cal so i am SO excited to read his book later this month.
but i LOVED iris SO much. she is such a badass queen!!! i loved that she stood her ground when she needed to. they both had so much growth both separately and together, it was beautiful. the epilogue was super cute & made me tear up.
This woman knows how to write grumpy x sunshine
Marriage for convenience, forced proximity, relationship with their boss. So many tropes in one!!!
Declan is such a stereotypical grump - he means well but he is so moody and has one business goal in mind he will stop at nothing to achieve.
Iris is his assistant, and I think deep down loved him for a really long time otherwise she wouldn't have gone to the length she went to in order for him to succeed (hence the whole contract thing)
This was so full of angst, and steamy smut. Neither wanted to admit their desire until someone finally broke. YES PLEASE.
I liked this one so much better than the first, and I'm sooooo excited to hear about Cal in the next one.
⭐️: 4.5/5
Banter! Swoony! Grumpy!
I have loved everything I've read from Lauren Asher and this is no different. The banter in this book is second to none. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Declan and Iris. I put off reading this one thinking it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but boy was I wrong. It blew them away! Everything about this book was absolutely wonderful! From the plot to the character development to the side characters, everything was smooth and effortless.
And can we talk about how swoony the grovelling is?!
rating- 2.5/5I was way too excited for this book, but i'm disappointed to say the least. I felt like this was way too similar to [b:The Fine Print 58530994 The Fine Print (Dreamland Billionaires, #1) Lauren Asher https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1625979098l/58530994.SY75.jpg 90312122]; I get that they're both grumpy-sunshine, but the characterisation seemed very similar for my liking. I'm not going to make this too long and go into details of what i didn't like (i lied, that is exactly what i proceed to do), but somehow this didn't live up to my expectations. The book literally starts off with their engagement, there is zero like setup and I felt like i was thrown into the book and the plot instead of being eased into it. We don't see until much later why Iris even agrees to marry him? so yeah i wasn't sure what was happening until much later. I've heard so much praise for the marriage of convenience trope everywhere and i was extremely upset i didn't feel the same way. The characters felt 2- dimensional and flat, since their entire personality revolved around each other. This was mostly Iris, I'm not sure Declan even had a personality to begin with. Not having a personality was his personality. Like i've read loads of books with the grumpy-sunshine trope; one does not have to lack personality to be grumpy!! But yes even this joke for characterisation was not executed properly, we're told he does not laugh and like 3 chapters in when he suddenly decides he likes Iris, alll he does is laugh. Like atleast make it rare?? so it's believable idk. Another complaint i'm sure a lot of people have is the lack of awkwardness and tension in the book. I definitely feel like Iris should've been less comfortable with the pda and public appearances in the beginning, and slowly become more accustomed to it? That being said, there were also quite a few things i liked. The whole words in a different language thing had my entire heart (although i was confused asf until i read what they meant; and in case of an ebook that wasn't until quite a few pages later). The whole dog and proposal thing was also very cute. sappy but cute. i like declarations of love, leave me alone. And last but not the least, the epilogues are absolutely my favourite. I read both the extended epilogues for [b:The Fine Print 58530994 The Fine Print (Dreamland Billionaires, #1) Lauren Asher https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1625979098l/58530994.SY75.jpg 90312122] & [b:Terms and Conditions 60438355 Terms and Conditions (Dreamland Billionaires, #2) Lauren Asher https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1645136977l/60438355.SY75.jpg 91507178] and loved loved loved them.Overall, I was disappointed for sure but it still had some endearing moments that had me smiling. Cal was a highlight and his personality shines through this book even more than the first. Him being Iris's bestfriend definitely saved this book. Absolutely cannot wait for his book.
well, i have mixed feelings. I might have had expectations considering how great the first book was but apparently expectations lead to disappointment and that is what happened. I like their story, i did enjoy reading it but, it didnt give me the same sweet feels as rowan and zahra's feelings, because even though declan worked around trying to be better for iris but wasnt the same.
and also, what i didn't like about is how their grandfather demanded that he marry and have a kid to get his inheritance? I get that he wanted his grandsons to find their way and settle but to be honest the entire situation where iris had to get pregnant not because either of them were ready for a child but to get him his inheritance was a big turn off.
3.5
Grumpy/Sunshine, fake marriage, and plenty of groveling at the end. It wrapped up a bit too quickly for my taste but I enjoyed reading it an would recommend it.
Can be read as a standalone but I think it's beneficial to read the first one to have a better grasp on the character dynamics.
