See allDear Heavens this took forever to read. It wasn't a bad book but it was waayyy too long. If it had been about 300 pages with half the characters it would've been really good. I was just over it by the time I got to the end. I was so ready to be done that I hardly cared about the major twists and there were a few. Didn't hate it, glad I finished it, not the greatest read for me.
Yall ... Like .... Hmmm...
This book is messed up. And I do mean MESSED UP. It is, by far, the most disturbing and memorable book I have ever read. Page turning, so incredibly descriptive. I can't say that enough. It is so detailed. You feel like you're there seeing, hearing, breathing right along with the characters. It's insane. I laughed (because that's how I process things sometimes), I cried, I was shooketh, to say the least. I worry about the author's thoughts because this book is messsseeddd up. But, dang if it wasn't good in it's own weird, descriptive, messed up way.
My God ....
Let me start out by stating the reason why this book is 5 stars. It is because I will NEVER forget this book as long as I live. The attention to detail is insane. The shock factor is out of this world. You think it's done and then there's more.
Over two decades after her sister's disappearance, Claire is living her best life when her husband is murdered out of the blue. Immediately after the funeral, things start to seem fishy. She was married to him for 18 years. You think you know someone ... and then you don't.
I don't know that I am able to recommend this book, because I can't describe the content as “good”. It is very heavy on SA. If that triggers you at all, this book is not for you. However ... I need someone to read this book so I can talk about it. It reminds me of a Sharp Objects plot line with some Tender is the Flesh depictions thrown in there.
While I can't say happy reading ... this book had me all in my feels. Literally, every feeling you could feel at once. Crazy. Insane. Read it.
Wow. This is only my second John Marrs book. He really takes your mind for a spin when you read his work. Things started happening on page one and they didn't end until the very last page. This is a fast paced book with a lot of different characters and different things happening. Twist after twist, it was incredibly written and you can tell how much research and effort was put in to this novel. Thank you to John Marrs for writing it. It really is a work of art.
Side note: I do suggest reading “The One” by John Marrs before reading this for no spoilers. If you were to read “The Passengers” first, it may give away a little of what happens in “The One”.
What a cute little story! Such powerful statements made in this book that really makes you take a step back and look at yourself, your business, your relationships. I really enjoyed the story and found value in it. I would recommend to anyone!
