though i enjoyed this more than the last one, but it was..just too fucking long. like it wouldn't stop, it wouldn't fucking end. i don't understand why the author has dragged on both books for this long, even though this one was shorter than the last but like, for god's sake, just end already.
I feel like this book had a side that could have been explored more with how the captain of the basketball team was half black. like there was so much potential about his need to prove himself instead of the fact he is a homebody. can anyone with sport knowledge confirm if this really affects the performance? like i don't know, given how the author who wrote this is white, maybe she was afraid of exploring that side but it would have been interesting to see it like that instead of simple doubts about him not being a social butterfly hence not a good enough captain.
anyway i no longer care about the third act conflict and i could care less about how they will resolve it
I enjoyed the fake dating, best friend's brother theme of this book.
Like book one, got a lot of great side characters, and the main characters were really likeable.
Slow burn with good spice and banter.
Was a nice in between, just something else again to know I prefer the romance with fantasy

I've loved Indy and Ryan from the first book and to see their relationship form was amazing. I loved the way he treats her and how his words mean more than anything. I love how nurturing and caring she is for everyone around her.
I love the real life portions of the plot such as infertility and deafness. Just all the things that have my heart. Such a great read. My sister in law told me each book in this series gets better but I just don't see how this one can be topped. I loved this book so much.

So far..... My favorite book in the series. I just love both the characters so much. Ryan Shay really set the bars high as a book-boyfriend.
2.5/5 - This is the 2nd book in the series I've read and I do not understand the hype. The writing was not great and this was a copy/paste of the first book. And the epilogue was pointless. I actually listened to the book and the narrators didn't make it any better. These types of books may not be for me.

when Indy said “Can you growl?” like her book boyfriends, I completely lost it. After reading 8 SJM books this year, that line was the best thing I've read

I have a severe allergy towards talk of pregnancy and traditional family yet this book managed to make me care for the characters and their future together so yeah take that 4* and leave me alone

TBF It's not the full 5 stars, more like 4.90-4.95. I just can't give it a full 5 stars, but I can't give it 4.75 either. The ending dragged on and the third-act separation was unnecessary. SPOILER: they got together at the 70% mark and I was too anxious reading the remaining 30% because I knew something bad was going to happen to give it a full 5 stars. But I'm glad that they didn't do a full breakup - they just needed to think through stuff and decide their future, though they still considered they were both in the relationship. And I liked it, it took some of the sting away.
Ryan is the best brother ever and an even better book boyfriend. I loved him in the first book the most and now I love him even more He's sweet and thoughtful and AMAZING and I felt so bad for him when he was being fouled all the time in the game and the refs didn't care.
Indy was amazing. I loved her since the first book and I'm so glad that she ended up with Ryan! She was so messy and colorful and full of life, and she was the exact person Ryan needed. She brought hope and wildness to his life, letting him shed some of the control and letting him know it was okay not to be perfect all the time. He could be himself around her; she didn't care that he was famous, she wanted him for himself and he didn't have to put an act on around her and that was the most important thing.
I have so many notes on my phone gushing about both Ryan and Indy. The nickname (I love it when he guy has a nickname for his girl (especially before they're even together) and this one was amazing), the bookshelf, the bed, the ASL, the flowers, vegetarian meals, the coffee, the treatment, the care when she was sick (HE BRAIDED HER HAIR, I MELTED), the HOUSE. All of it is from Ryan. But he didn't need material things from Indy - what she gave him was more important than that. She made him more open and validated his needs. She let him be himself with no judgment or expectations. She planned the foundation, organized the team dinner, and made him believe that he was wanted and loved for who he was rather than who he thought he had to be.
While Ryan was adamant that Indy was the sensitive one, he was one too. He cried so many times during this book, and it was beautiful to see him coming to terms with his feelings, and not letting fears rule his life anymore. I loved the character development and the way they both complimented each other. While Indy spent her life taking care of everyone around her, Ryan took care of her and showed her she was wanted and loved for being herself - not for what she could do for others. I loved that.
Both Ryan and Indy's backstories were sad and in the case of Ryan, brutal and cruel. He deserved so much better and I'm glad that Indy was there to show him that. The way they both look out for one another is beautiful.
The spice in this book was excellent too. Hot and delicious, and it wasn't there just to make this book spicy. It was important for both their dynamic and growth. It was there to show them that they're both loved and wanted and what happened in the past doesn't have to define them now or in the future.
I'm very happy that Zanders and Stevie were a part of this book as well and the friendship between Zee and Ryan, and Vee and Blue were important parts of this book. I loved them in the previous one and I'm glad they're still around. The humor in this book was excellent, especially the “daily updates” and Stevie's reactions to them. It was so fun having them around and seeing how their relationship develops from the sidelines.
The epilogue was so wholesome and cute! I loved that and I loved that it was (somewhat?) realistic, given Indy's struggles. I loved how both families are still friends years into the future and I loved reading about all the wholesome additions to their lives.
I enjoyed the setup for the next book though I wish there was more of Kai in this book - I selfishly want more Vee, Zee, Indy, and Ryan in the future books as well. I'm excited for this series and I hope the next books will be just as fun!
Overall, this was written a bit better than the first one. I still don't think romances need to be this long. I think I'm good. I think I'll tap out now.

I expected to like this more than mile high since most people do; but somehow i was just not suuuuper impressed like everybody else. A for effort obviously.
I mean i rated it 4.5 stars because i know it's mostly me being picky.(if i was going off purely on reading experience it was probably a 3.5 or 4) Reading two contemporary romances back to back is never a good idea when you're in a romantic drought and in your cynic era; but I braved this one and I sorta feel bad ngl. Because I just KNOW for a fact i would absolutely love Ryan Shay otherwise. * sigh * it is what it is, i guess.
Reading is subjective so, I can say...if only this was 200 pages shorter, I would've liked it more; I can say... i just wish the book hadn't tried to tackle so many things at once. The truth is: I wouldn't like it as much, no matter what the author did- simply because I wasn't in the mood for it.
dunno why i read it then, lets not get into logistics.
Overall, while i appreciated certain events like building the bookshelf, learning ASL etcetc. The book simply felt all over the place. An example of this could be the knee injury distracting from the smut scene or even Indy going from thinking? about the cheating to fertility to his love language to saving flowers, back to Ryan's trust issues. Like idk if it's just me, but it was a loooot to take on in a single book. Somehow I was just burnt out by the 80% mark and the final third act conflict was just pushing it too farr. Anywayz, i loved the first book so i know it was mostly me. can't wait to readd Kai's book:)
While the first book in the series did not impress me much, The Right Move did something to my inside and made me believe in romance all over again.
First of all, Ryan Shay. Ryan freaking Shay. Let me tell you this – Ryan Shay is THE standard now. He is the GOAT. He defines book boyfriend everywhere perfectly. He is everything a woman needs and more. He learns sign language just so he could communicate with his girlfriend's deaf father, for god's sake! I can go on and on and on about the guy, but that would be an exaggeration.
His quiet love. It's the loudest.
Indigo Ivers is just the perfect match to our hero. Indy is so completely the opposite of Ryan, they just match. Indy is the music to his lonely, quiet world. Indy is the force that keep him away from his rigidly planned life. Indy is the real MVP.
If you cannot tell yet, I LOVE this book. I even love the ending. I live for the epilogue, for that kind of awesomeness. Sigh.
This book was cute. I kind of struggled to get through it and I found I was getting a wee bit bored 2/3rd of the way through. Ryan Shay is the perfect book boyfriend. Yes please.

Flight attendant Indy (Stevie's BFF) went through a break up and needed a place to stay. Why not her BFF's brothers apartment?
What started as just roommates who co-existed, became fake dating. Ryan needed a girlfriend to show his team's GM he was a good team captain.
Then it started not to be just pretending anymore....
The sequel to Mike High is so good. We get a glimpse of our fav's (Stevie and Zanders) from the last book as they continue their journey, and see more of Rio too.
