I think this is an amazing book IF you do the tandem read.

I can see how reading this as a standalone can drag on for way too long.

However, the vibes in the Southern Continent are unmatched. Also, the Chaol redemption arc is real. Great character development. He really went from cardboard cutout -> asshole -> likeable. Well done as always SJM ;)

First third is a bit too slow for my liking, but it really picks up afterwards.

I don't care much for war flashbacks, seeing as I DNF'ed the American Sniper. However, in this case I think they were very well included and relevant for character development.

The more I think about the ending, the more I like it. Still bawled my eyes out tho

Reread: I needed to go back to this world and read some Rhys dialogue to really pick me up.

I don't know why people hate on this, it's a nice and cozy Christmas vibes novella.

So much happening in a single book!

Action packed, couldn't put it down. immediately starting the next 2 as tandem read
