Esta novela narra una historia donde realmente no se le da mucha importancia al tiempo que transcurre. El personaje principal (en mi opinión) es el mundo. El mundo feliz. Y el relato de eventos se enfoca principalmente en cómo van afectando a nuestro personaje principal; debido a que el tiempo en sí no afecta al mundo, éste termina siendo irrelevante. Sí, hay algunos personajes recurrentes a los que seguimos ocasionalmente, pero sólo para ir conociendo cómo éstos afectan al mundo.
This novel narrates a story where the passing time is not given much importance. The main character (in my opinion) is the world. The brave new world. And the telling of the events is mainly focused in how they affect our main character; given that time itself does not affect the world, it ends up being irrelevant. There are some recurrent characters that we follow occasionally, but only to get to know how they affect the world.

La premisa de este “mundo feliz” es que no existen relaciones interpersonales “obligadas” como la familia, nadie sufre porque todo lo que puedas desear está al alcance de tu mano, y todo lo que puedas desear es factible porque los seres humanos son condicionados a su casta y el rol que conlleva esa casta en la sociedad desde el momento en que son creados en el laboratorio. Todos son de todos y todos trabajan para todos. La sociedad existe en un balance perfecto minuciosamente controlado.
The premise for this “brave new world” is that there are not “forced” interpersonal relationships such as families, no one suffers because everything they could wish for is at a reach of a hand, and everything they could wish for is feasible because humans are conditioned to their caste and the role of their caste in society since the moment they are created in the lab. Everybody belongs to everybody and everybody works for everybody. Society exists in a meticulously controled perfect balance.

Claro está, debe existir un conflicto que lleve la historia; algo que perturbe este balance. Y, efectivamente, existe uno.
Clearly, there must be a conflict to drive the story; something that disturbs this balance. And effectively, there is one.

Esto genera conversaciones y argumentos bastante interesantes que me hizo reflexionar sobre aspectos de nuestra realidad mundial y cultural actual, en por qué las cosas son como son y lo que sería necesario para un cambio verdadero.
This creates really interesting conversations and arguments that made me reflect on aspects of our current universal and cultural reality, on why things are the way they are and what would be necessary for a real change.

Es un libro corto y, debo admitirlo, a veces un poco tedioso ya que la escritura suele enfocarse en aspectos técnicos de la realidad del mundo feliz, por lo que le doy 3.5 estrellas. Sin embargo, si logras ver más allá de eso, es una lectura interesante, pero ciertamente no para todos.
Is a short book and, I must admit, sometimes a bit tedious because it usually focuses in the brave new world's reality technical aspects, for which I give ot 3.5 stars. However, if can see past this, is an interesting read, but certainly not for everyone.

The main objective of Into the Wild is to inform the reader about who Chris McCandless was, how he came to venture into the Alaskan wilderness and met his fate while living off the land.
El objetivo principal de Hacia Rutas Salvajes es informar al lector de quién era Chris McCandless, cómo llegó a aventurarse hacia la naturaleza de Alaska y conoció su destino mientras estaba ahí viviendo de la tierra.

I started reading this book for a book club (which, if you're anything like me and like to make notes of everything, do not recommend) and dived into it looking only to know of McCandless' adventure but found his full backstory plus a search of what could've ended his voyage so abruptley and the telling of other's travels. Honestly, I didn't care for the latter very much.
Comencé a leer este libro para un club de lectura (que, si eres algo parecido a mi y te encanta hacer notas de todo, no lo recomiendo) y me sumergí en él buscando solamente el saber de la aventura de McCandless pero encontré toda su historia más una búsqueda de qué pudo haber terminado su viaje de manera tan abrupta y el relato de viajes de otros. Honestamente, no me importaron mucho estos últimos.

However, I think I understand what seems to be Jon Krakauer's purpose for including these stories, amongst of which was his own: trying to understand Chris. By comparing what drove the other wanderers, even in different eras, to become a nomad, detach from civilization or take their chances climbing a dangerous mountain, the author is trying to gather as much information as possible to try and comprehend the works of McCandless' mind and motivations; which resulted interesting.
Sin embargo, creo que entiendo lo que parece ser el propósito de Jon Krakauer al incluir estas historias, entre las cuales estaba la suya: intentar comprender a Chris. Al comparar lo que condujo a otros hombres errantes, incluso en diferentes épocas, a convertirse en nómadas, desligarse de la civilización o arriesgarse a escalar una montaña peligrosa, el autor está tratando de recopilar tanta información como le es posible para intentar entender cómo trabajaban la mente y motivaciones de Chris; lo cual resultó interesante.

I liked that Krakauer does not push an opinion on why Chris did what he did, more than he tries to help understand why. I also liked the account of all the travels that led him to the Alaskan bush and not only the telling of when he actually went in there. That, along with her sister's Carine input, was something I quite enjoyed.
Me gustó que Krakauer no presiona una opinión sobre por qué Chris hizo lo que hizo más que lo que intenta ayudar a comprender por qué. También me gustó la cuenta de todos los viajes que lo llevaron a los bosques de Alaska y no sólo el relato de cuando ya estaba ahí. Eso, en conjunto con las aportaciones de su hermana Carine, fue algo que disfruté bastante.

Though I must say there were some parts more dense than I expected that made me put off the book for a while and the -somewhat- constant recount of the hate responses to Chris' adventure wasn't something I really aprecciated, I think there's something for everyone in this book.
Either if you're looking for a travel or survival(ish) story, a precautionary tale, the point of view of all the people that McCandless encountered in his journeys, or an account of how far one's convictions can propell you, you should give it a try.
Aunque debo decir que hubo algunas partes más densas de lo esperado que me hicieron posponer la lectura por un tiempo y el -un tanto- constante recuento de las respuestas de odio hacia la aventura de Chris no fue algo que realmente me agradó, creo que hay algo para todos en este libro. Ya sea si estás buscando una historia de viajes o supervivencia (más o menos), un cuento de precaución, los puntos de vista de todas las personas que McCandless se encontró en sus viajes, o un recuento de qué tan lejos pueden impulsarte tus convicciones, deberías darle una oportunidad.

Overall, I liked Into the Wild. The end actually made me tear up a bit.

This was a short read but somewhat difficult at the beginning, which made it a bit slow at moments. I had some difficulty with the Victorian style; I got confused several times and had to re-read the same paragraph twice or thrice.
Esta fue una lectura corta pero algo batallosa en un inicio, lo que en momentos la volvió un poco lenta. Tuve algo de dificultad con el estilo victoriano; varias veces me confundí y tuve que releer el mismo párrafo una segunda o tercera vez.

I liked the way the author manages the chronology and his use of different narratives from varied characters' point of view to slowly make the pieces of the puzzle come together, because this helped build up the tension and gives the story the mystery touch: it keeps you expectant of what piece of information will be revealed next.
Me gustó el manejo que el autor le da a la cronología y su uso de las diferentes narrativas desde el punto de vista de distintos personajes para lentamente ir juntando las piezas del rompecabezas, ya que esto ayudó a construir la tensión y le da el toque de misterio a la historia: te mantiene a la expectativa de qué revelarán a continuación.

I was also satisfied that all my questions were answered by the end, though the chronology's ending came actually at two thirds of the book ( for me, the excitement was diminished when finding Mr. Hyde dead on the floor and stilll having questions to answer). However, it was still interesting to, after, be able to know of all the events behind Dr. Jekyll's transformation.
También estuve satisfecha de que todas mis dudas quedaron resueltas para el final, aunque el final de la cronología haya sucedido a dos tercios del libro (para mí, disminuyó bastante la emoción de la historia al encontrarnos con el Sr. Hyde muerto y teniendo aun preguntas por resolver). In the end, it was a good classic for me and I liked it.

If you read my last Twilight review, you know that I've started on a journey re-reading the Twilight Saga (all be for the sake of going all in into Midnight Sun). Yes, I am liking them. Yes, I am 25 years old.
Si leyeron mi última reseña de Crepúsculo, sabrán que empecé un viaje de relectura de la saga Crepúsculo (todo sea por entrar de lleno a Sol de Medianoche). Sí, me están gustando. Sí, tengo 25 años.

To quickly recapitulate, New Moon starts a bit after Bella's near-death incident with a tracking vampire that made it his life's mission to get her. At the beginning, everything's wonderful, she and Edward have never been happier together, the Cullens -most of them, at least- love having her spending time with them and, especially, having a human around to do human things - like properly celebrating birthdays. This is when all stars going south, with now Jasper almost killing Bella and setting off a switch in Edward, convincing him that she must be safer and better off without all these vampires in her life. And so, he leaves, taking with him all traces of them ever existing.
Para recapitular rápidamente, Luna Nueva inicia poco después del incidente cercano a la muerte de Bella con un vampiro rastreador que hizo la misión de su vida atraparla. To be honest, I dreaded a little the first two-thirds of the book; I read them particularly slow in comparison to the last instalment. I don't mean to come across non-empathic or mean, but depressed Bella is very boring. Now, I know, I understand depression is not a joke and is a serious mental condition, I'm not diminishing that fact. But having to read the same internal spiraling and pain descriptions over and over can get to you. Though I suppose that's the point, to get the reader to truly understand her situation and her feelings. Also, I actually really missed Edward.
Para ser honesta, sentí un poco de aprensión hacia los primeros dos tercios del libro; los leí particularmente lento a comparación de la última entrega (Crepúsculo). No es mi intención parecer no empática o mala, pero Bella deprimida es muy aburrida. Ahora, yo sé, comprendo que la depresión no es una broma y es una condición mental seria, no estoy haciendo menos ese hecho. And this brings me to the next point. Team Edward vs. Team Jacob.

I don't know why, I feel kind of funny writing this. Based solely on the first two books, I really don't think there's a reason for the “teams” division to have arisen - at least not yet. Bella never really expressed any kind of thought or feeling that suggested that she really felt anything romantic towards Jacob. Yes, she did consider the possibility once, but only as an escape from her never-ending pain or a source of relief, not because she was really falling in love with him. Or perhaps I'm just biased because I'm crazy about Edward. You draw your conclusions.
No sé por qué, me siento extraña/graciosa escribiendo esto. Basado solamente en los primeros dos libros, realmente no creo que haya una razón para que surgiera la división de los “equipos” - al menos no aún. Bella nunca expresó ningún tipo de pensamiento o sentimiento que sugiriera que sentía realmente algo romántico hacia Jacob. Sí, lo consideró en una ocasión, pero sólo como un escape de su dolor interminable o como una fuente de alivio, no porque realmente se estuiera enamorando de él. O quizás solamente estoy sesgada porque estoy loca por Edward. Ustedes saquen sus conclusiones.

So, when I got to the last third of the book, I devoured it. I spent every spare minute I had, reading. Alice's return, the race to save Edward, meeting the Volturi, Bella and Edward's reunion (oh!, that reunion), it all had me on the edge of my seat even though I already knew what came next. And I must confess, Bella's realization that Edward actually loves her and his burst of joy because of that, brought tears to my eyes. Almost the entire last chapters had my heart pounding with excitement at every romantic gesture between them both; I lost it in the marriage proposal.
Así que cuando llegué al último tercio del libro, lo devoré. Pasé cada minuto libre leyendo. El regreso de Alice, la carrera para salvar a Edward, conocer a los Volturi, la reunión de Bella y Edward (¡oh!, esa reunión), todo me tenía a la orilla de mi asiento a pesar de ya saber lo que pasaba a continuación. Y debo confesar, la comprensión de Bella de que Edward realmente la ama y el estallido de alegría de él por esto, me hizo lagrimear. And I'm just noticing that, more than a review, this became an account of my experience reading New Moon, so I guess that's it. I liked this book so much, that last part really makes up for the slow part. And I'm starting Eclipse as soon as I get home.
Y estoy dándome cuenta que, más que una reseña, esto se volvió una cuenta de mi experiencia leyendo Luna Nueva, así que supongo que eso es todo. Me gustó mucho este libro, esa útima parte realmente compensa la parte lenta. Y voy a empezar Eclipse tan pronto como llegue a casa.

Eclipse, en mi opinión, es el libro más emocionante de la saga. Aún tengo pendiente releer Amanecer para estar segura, pero ese es mi veredicto hasta ahora. Tenemos a nuestra disposición más detalles que en las novelas anteriores ya que todo se desarrolla en el lapso de unos pocos meses -desde el fin de cursos hasta unos días después de la graduación- pero en muchas más páginas. Las premisas son: Edward hizo un trato con Bella para convertirla él mismo, pero con la condición de que se casen primero; hay una oleada de asesinatos en Seattle puede ser aún más grave de lo que parece; Bella y Jacob están peleados; y Victoria sigue suelta y al acecho.

Con esto, nos vemos envueltos en una trama que me parece bastante ágil en ritmo, emocionante y con un desarrollo constante. El conflicto principal se basa en averiguar qué está sucediendo en Seattle, lo que se ramifica en varias líneas que conforman y llevan la historia; como la preocupación de Bella por convertirse en vampiro lo más pronto posible, la evolución de la relación Edward-Bella-Jacob, y la cooperación entre vampiros y licántropos. Mi única queja de la trama en sí, es que parece que todos son muy malos para ver lo obvio. O no sé si yo estaba influenciada porque ya conocía el meollo del asunto.

Quisiera primero aclarar una cosa. No deberían tomar mi reseña como un punto de crítica; he leído algunas opiniones respecto a cómo este libro es un intento de su propia versión de Cumbres Borrascosas y cómo eso lo arruina por completo. La verdad es que sólo he leído Cumbres Borrascosas una vez y no fue una lectura particularmente memorable para mí (esto de ninguna manera quiere decir que piense que sea mala ni nada por el estilo), además de que puede que haya comenzado Eclipse con una cierta predisposición a que me gustara. Así que yo no confiaría en mí para una reseña objetiva.

Así que comencemos con los contras.

En esta entrega, Bella se vuelve un poco irritante con su constante convencimiento de que todo lo malo que está pasando es su culpa y que debe hacer lo posible para hacer feliz y mantener seguro a todo el mundo, aun sea a costo de su propia seguridad y felicidad. Esta podría ser una buena característica para el personaje de no haber sido sobreexplotada hasta el punto de volverse molesto, además de que esto lleva a Bella a estar constantemente en un estado de extrema vulnerabilidad, llorando y lamentándose. Me esforcé por comprender la razón de esto, siendo que ella tiene una lucha interna -y a veces externa- al tratar de reconciliarse con su mejor amigo, quien la ayudó a no quedarse en el hoyo donde estaba cuando Edward se fue en Luna Nueva, y al mismo tiempo no hacerle daño al amor de su vida. Sin embargo, tristemente esto se vuelve tedioso.

Además está la cuestión del comportamiento de Bella con Jacob. La verdad es que no me agrada porque (obviamente) no es como se trata a alguien que sólo consideras tu amigo, incluso si al final admita que lo ama (aunque... no sé, eso estuvo algo raro), y es bastante masoquista para ambos. Pero, como establecí en mi reseña de Crepúsculo, nunca podremos tener un punto de comparación para decir qué está bien y qué no porque es una relación ficticia entre un vampiro, una humana y un hombre lobo. En Luna Nueva no me afectó de esta manera porque Bella estaba en una situación terrible y siento que yo hubiera actuado igual ante la perspectiva de recuperar esas sensaciones de afecto, pero en esta ocasión me pareció una completa falta de respeto hacia Edward y el amor incondicional que le demuestra. Y no logro decidirme si esto alentaba a Jacob (porque creo que él se hubiera comportado igual aunque no recibiera este ánimo por parte de Bella), pero tampoco su comportamiento fue mi favorito durante gran parte del libro. Fue hosco, manipulador, temperamental, terco, abusivo (quiero decir, ESE beso no fue un gesto romántico ni nada que se le parezca) y hacía de las palabras de Bella lo que mejor le convenía a él. Solamente al final, cuando aceptó sólo una relación de amistad, fue cuando por fin volvió a ser de mi agrado. Lo cual me lleva a mi siguiente punto.

Edward tampoco fue mi favorito al inicio del libro. En un punto se volvió tan sobreprotector que podría considerarse secuestro o abuso; y todo esto se sumaba a la representación de Bella como alguien muy débil. Claro, por el bienestar y felicidad de Bella, logra entender lo suficientemente rápido que este no es un comportamiento saludable ni favorable para su relación, por lo que se relaja y de ese momento en adelante podemos disfrutar de un Edward cariñoso y comprensivo -aunque a veces un poco manipulable.

Y con esta nota, puedo proceder a los pros/lo que me gustó.

¡LA.INTENSIDAD.DEL.ASUNTO! No sería honesta si dijera que no disfruté de los (muchos -gracias, Stephanie) momentos entre Bella y Edward que me aceleraban el corazón. Sé que probablemente sean momentos exagerados, irrealistas o clichés, pero eso no disminuyó mi emoción. Esto va de la mano con los momentos verdaderamente románticos, como la propuesta de Edward -aunque Bella la arruinara-; mi corazón se fue hasta el piso y no podía contener mi emoción, mi esposo me miraba desconcertado. En este momento, me encanta la vulnerabilidad de Edward al mostrar sus sentimientos y ser completamente honesto sobre lo que haría de su existencia una muy feliz. Talvez parte de mi emoción fue empatía, pero fue hermoso al final. También, como parte de este mismo aspecto, una de mis partes favoritas fue la conversación de Edward y Jacob durante la tormenta; la sinceridad de Edward respecto a por qué, en efecto, siente celos de Jacob al no poder hacer las mismas cosas que él para Bella, y respecto al resto de las preguntas, es de cierta manera refrescante y entrañable. Además de que por un breve momento podemos disfrutar de un Jacob que no está crónicamente molesto o a la defensiva.

Algo más que me gustó mucho y que quisiera hacer notar es que reconocen que Charlie no es un padre inadvertido que se traga todas las mentiras y excusas que avientan en su camino. Es mucho más listo que eso, pero mencionan que, por su personalidad, prefiere aceptarlas y no lidiar con lo que sea que esté debajo mientras no le parezca nada muy grave y su hija esté feliz. Verdaderamente mejoran su personaje.

Otra cosa que me pareció brillante fue cómo Stephanie Meyer hiló los eventos para contar la historia de trasfondo de los otros integrantes de la familia Cullen sin forzarlo. Tenemos la historia de Rosalie, que la conocemos gracias a que Bella se ve en una tipo situación de arresto domiciliario mientras los demás vampiros hacen algunas investigaciones y ella aprovecha la oportunidad para sanar un poco su relación con Bella. Por otra parte, está la historia de Jasper, que necesitamos conocerla para comprender la amenaza a la que se estarán enfrentando y por qué es que ellos tienen una ventaja de su parte. En lo que corresponde a las historias de los Quileutes, fue interesante conocerlas y aprender por qué se transforman en hombres lobo, pero en esta ocasión sí hubo necesidad de crear todo un escenario (la fogata en la playa) exclusivo para contar esas historias. Sin embargo, considero que todos estos elementos agregan profundidad a los personajes y a la trama.

Por último, hubo una gran transición entre “villanos” al lograr enlazar la eterna amenaza de Victoria con la recién infundada (en Luna Nueva) de los Vulturi. Considero que fue un gran trabajo el involucrar los deberes de los Vulturi con lo que sucedía en Seattle para que, cuando se concluyera con la historia de venganza de Victoria y sus neófitos, se diera pie sin esfuerzo a la entrada de los vampiros italianos como el siguiente enemigo y punto generador de conflicto. Esto fundó muy buenas bases para el siguiente libro, donde el tema principal se espera que sea el cumplimiento del trato con los Vulturi.

Me hubiera gustado saber más de Victoria, sus planes y movimientos, o que hubiera más intervención suya durante la historia, pero entiendo que de haber sido el caso, se habría perdido el elemento de misterio y sorpresa ya que todo lo vemos desde el punto de vista de Bella. Además de que hubiera arruinado la razón de ser de su perfectamente estructurado plan. Oh, y otra cosa: pobre Bree. Ella no quería nada de eso e intentó arreglarlo. Habría sido genial que no la exterminaran y se convirtiera en uno más del clan Cullen.

En fin. Disfruté mucho Eclipse y espero terminar de disfrutar la saga para continuar con Sol de Medianoche. Por cierto, creo que la reseña de James es oro y mucho mejor que la mía. Si llegaron hasta aquí, deberían leerla.

This story is set at the beginning of the 20th century, with the arrival of Martians to Earth. The whole story is narrated - or better said, recapitulated - by an unnamed philosophy writer who escaped the chaos at the beginning, taking his wife to his cousin's, but who got tangled in the wreckage again when going back to return a lended cart. His entire account considers his trying to go back to his wife, while including stories an data recollected after the invasion.
La historia se ubica al inicio del siglo XX, con la llegada de los Marcianos a la Tierra. Toda la historia es narrada - o mejor dicho, recapitulada - por un escritor de filosofía sin nombre que escapa del caos en un inicio, llevando a su esposa con su primo, pero que se ve envuelto de nuevo en el desastre cuando regresa a entregar un carro prestado. Definetly not what I expected. There's a tiny bit of what could be called “action” scenes where the Martians are involved, but all is mostly a combination of what was witnessed and the narrator's reflections over the events and people's clothing. And a lot of “to and fro”s.

I'll be honest. I don't think this review accomplishes to be long or detailed enough. I got my copy of Midnight Sun when I was approximately 200 pages from finishing Breaking Dawn and my inmense longing to read it already made me fully concentrate on finishing it. At this moment, one day later and with the end of the story of Edward, Bella and Jacob finally concluded, my biggest interest is to leave my main thoughts embodied in text and start the new book sooner rather than later.

A manera de breve resumen, esta entrega se divide en tres libros o tres historias principales: el inicio de la unión de Bella y Edward para siempre con su boda y los eventos consecuentes normales de una boda, el evento inesperado (el embarazo de Bella, llevando un ser más que mortal en su vientre) que pone de cabeza la vida de todos, visto desde el punto de vista de Jacob, y la conclusión del conflicto que el evento previo generó (con la llegada de los Vulturi a Forks para exterminarlos a todos).
As a brief summary, this installment is divided into three books or three main stories: the beginning of Bella and Edward's forever union with their wedding and the succeding events to a normal wedding, the unexpected event (Bella's pregnancy, carrying in her womb a being that's more than mortal) that turns everybody's life upside down, from Jacob's point of view, and the conclusion of the conflict generated by the previous event (with the Volturi's arrival to Forks to exterminate them all).

En general, considero que es un buen libro. Talvez a la par de Crepúsculo. La primera parte es puro amor y la verdad fue un deleite leerlo, mi yo de 15 años estaba suspirando de nuevo; para la segunda parte consideré seriamente no leerla y continuar con la última por el mal sabor de boca que me quedó de Jacob en los últimos dos libros, pero estoy contenta de reportar que fue mucho más agradable de lo que esperaba. Para esta entrega, los personajes ya se encontraban mejor desarrollados y maduraron considerablemente: Jacob ya no fue irritante, temperamental o manipulador todo el tiempo - o al menos no que yo lo notara. In general, I think it's a good book. Perhaps on par with Twilight. The first part is pure love and it was a true delight to read, my 15-year-old me was sighing again; for the second part I seriously considered not reading it and continue with the last part because of the unpleasant experience I had with Jacob in the last two books, but I'm happy to report that it was much more agreeable than I expected. For this installment, the characters were better developed and matured considerably: Jacob wasn't annoying, temperamental or manipulative all the time - or at least that I noticed. Bella also improved a good deal; I can say that I like her better as a vampire than as a human.

Finally, the third and last part was fairly entretaining and I was surprised at several things that I didn't completely remembered. In part, it was like reading the book for the first time.

I think it funny that, being the longest book, is the shortest review I've written for the saga. I think there are too many things to cover in a few words and the few that I wrote largely encompass the general feeling. I'll definetly reread the saga in a few years.

Apparently this is the year of 5-stars books for me.

There's not much to say about the plot of Midnight Sun since is the same as Twilight. However, the twist here, is that the whole story is now told from Edward's point of view.

I'm not even going to try to do an objective review considering pros and cons, because I absolutely loved this book and I thought it was PERFECT. A true masterpiece. Though I'm going to try to walk you through the factors I usually consider to rate books, for this one in particular.

First, there's the engaging story. Many people with whom I've talked to about Midnight Sun don't get what can possibly be new and different between this book and the first one of the saga: A LOT, actually. Being inside Edward's mind gives the reader a brand new perspective on the story, the characters, even the background story, and brilliantly reflects the growth and experience as an author that Stephenie Meyer has acquired through these last fifteen years. I could clearly see the improvement because, to be honest, I was reading and comparing chapters between both books along the way. There are so many details that add to the narration that previously felt missing and so many more that I couldn't have ever imagined, but that complement and complete the tale so well, it made my heart dance with excitement.

“I was used to the way that scent made me feel - the dry ache in my throat, the hollow yearn in my stomach, the automatic tightening of my muscles, the excess flow of venom in my mouth. This was all quite normal, usually easy to ignore. It was harder just now, with the reactions stronger, doubled, as I monitored Jasper.”[...]“My eyes locked for half a second with a pair of large, chocolate-brown human eyes set in a pale, heart-shaped face. I knew the face, though I'd never seen it myself before this moment. It had been foremost in every human head today. The new student, Isabella Swan”

Stephenie rises the narrative to a whole new level, with her descriptions of Edward's thoughts, feelings and emotions being so on point and clear that you can now fully understand scenes entirely and make sense of all his and -almost- everyone's actions and reactions; one of the advantages of the fact that your main character can read minds, has excellent hearing, sight, and a sister who can see the future. All the information we get about what is like being a vampire and about the Cullens specifically, is priceless.

“I looked down at the girl again, bemused by the vast range of havoc and upheaval that, despite her ordinary, unthreatening appearance, she was wreaking on my life.”[...]“‘Did you get contacts?' she asked abruptly.What a strange question. ‘No.' I almost smiled at the idea of improving my eyesight.‘Oh,” she mumbled. ‘I thought there was something different about your eyes.'I felt suddenly colder again as I realized that I was not the only one attempting to ferret out secrets today.”Then there is this sea of emotions. I found myself giddy, jumping in excitement, squealing, crying and dazzled (wink wink) more often than not. Getting to see, literally, how and why -really- Edward gets interested in Bella and how his emotions start to become love feelings was a wonderful experience. I truly connected with him many times when he felt anxious, uncertain, hopeful, by being involuntarily thrown under circumstances that made him more human than he could have ever imagined he could be again. There's so much depth to his character and, actually, to all characters, that the reader can discover in this book since their own personal backgrounds, motivations and dreams are displayed in its pages for us to devour. It somehow, at times, becomes kind of an anthology given all the cleverly intertwined stories we can get know: what happened during that time Edward was a “vigilante”, Emmett's encounter with one of i suoi cantanti, Rosalie's integration to the Cullen family, and so on.“I wondered what she would do when she saw me? Blush and walk away? That was my first guess. But maybe she would stare back. She did a great job in linking in either explanations that let us see the whys of certain situations or -better yet, in my opinion- acknowledgements by the very characters about these problematics.“I just confessed to stalking her and she sits there smiling?”Needless to say I was head over heels for Edward all over again. Though, surprisingly, I did get to love the entire Cullen family as he portrays them throughout all the other books, from Twilight to Breaking Dawn , and I wasn't able to since now. Again, it really changes your perspective seeing everything through new eyes. I must say: Emmett is, indeed, a brother I would love to have.I think there may be so much more to say and discuss and analyze about this book, but there's nothing more on my mind now. I think I covered the essentials of why this is precious and I also don't wan't to spoil or give anything away, because it was an amazing experience that I would like everyone to enjoy when going into this book. (As a side note: I think, too, that this could be a great standalone for anyone who hasn't read any Twilight saga content and want to just dip their feet a bit).This one goes into my favorites' shelf forever.“She dreamed of me. I wanted to dream of her.”

I don't want to write anything about this book so I don't ruin the experience for anybody. All I should say is that it is fast-paced, thrilling, unpredictable, and has some serious HOLY SH*T moments. Perfect to keep you hooked the entire time.
No quiero escribir nada sobre este libro para no arruinar la experiencia de nadie. Todo lo que debería decir es que es de ritmo rápido, emocionante, impredecible y tiene serios momentos impresionantes. Perfecto para mantenerte enganchado todo el tiempo.

I liked this book a lot, it was an awesome ride. The end felt a bit anticlimactic though, for which I give it 3.5 stars but rounded up to 4 because the rest was still very good.

The story didn't quite keep me gripped the entire time, but I think that's because of how is all like a series of short stories and happenings in Anne's life throughout the years covered in this first book, it's not one full storyline to follow through the whole novel.

Something to point out is that I did watch Netflix's series Anne with an E before reading this, so I was expecting something completely different. Which doesn't mean I was disappointed. This book is full of beautiful descriptions, witty dialogs, lovable characters and heartwarming affairs that got me completely immersed in Prince Edward Island's 20th century atmosphere - and I was fascinated by it.

This coming-of-age tale of an 11 year old former orphan with a head full of imagination and a heart full of hope, has everything I look for in a good story: excitement, love, friendship, a bit of drama, and characters that make you root for them as well as love them.

I started The Mysterious Key and What It Opened because I wanted a short, light read. Having read before only Little Women from Louisa May Alcott, I wasn't expecting anything too far from a 19th century entertaining mystery - almost Sherlock Holmes' style (I've only seen TV series, so please don't judge if I'm wrong); really just wanting to enjoy her writing and know what did the mysterious key open.
Comencé The Mysterious Key and What It Opened porque quería una lectura corta y ligera. Habiendo leído anteriormente sólo Mujercitas de Louisa May Alcott, no estaba esperando nada muy alejado de un misterio entretenido ambientado en el siglo XIX - casi del estilo de Sherlock Holmes (sólo he visto series de televisión, así que por favor no juzguen si me equivoco); realmente sólo queriendo disfrutar de su escritura y saber qué es lo que abría esa misteriosa llave.

Instead, I was pleasantly surprised with Alcott's ability to deliver a mystery/gothic/suspenseful short story so different from Little Women's cute, motivational, sweet feel that I deeply love. I truly enjoyed it, being in a spooky-Halloween mode as I was when I read this.

The book had me deeply invested in what the big mystery was going to be and I also got a bit agitated through some suspense, nail-biting moments. Who would've thought a Louisa May Alcott's story would have me on the edge of my seat, expecting a jump-scare? Certainly, I didn't.
El libro me tuvo profundamente interesada en saber cuál iba a ser el gran misterio y además me causó un poco de agitación en unos momentos emocionantes y de suspenso. ¿Quién hubiera pensado que una historia de Louisa May Alcott me iba a tener en el borde de mi asiento, esperando un susto repentino? This was so much fun and I highly recommend it. As Mandolin said in her review, it does remind you of the stories that Jo must have written because “that's what sell”.

The whole story - though short- drags over the same thing: a young lady (whose name I already forgot) that, according to her, made the mistake of getting married at a very short age and ruined her life. She proceeds to tell how that happened and to detail all the affectations to her nerves and sensibility that were suffered in the process.
Toda la historia -aunque corta- se alarga sobre lo mismo: una joven (cuyo nombre ya olvidé) que, de acuerdo con ella, cometió el error de casarse a muy corta edad y arruinó su vida. She's not an agreeable character at all. I understand that this is one of Jane Austen's early works written as a satire, however I didn't enjoy it in the least.

For the second time, this book tore my chest open, took my heart out, broke it in half, squeezed it until it was a raisin, put it back, threw in some tears and left it there to suffer. Cinder is a sci-fi retelling of Cinderella. I never thought I'd get so invested the first time reading a story to which I already knew the plot and the ending. Or thought I knew.

In this futuristic version of the world where Lihn Cinder lives, she's the unwanted adopted child of a widow mother of two girls and former wife of a world-renowned scientist, who brought Cinder into the family after a life-wrecking accident stripped her of her memories and most of her human body. In this story, Cinderella is a cyborg.

However, there are bigger thing happening in the world outside her daily struggles: the constant threat of a war with the mind-controlling Lunars, a “blue-fever” pandemic to which no cure has been discovered, and a sick Emperor that could leave the East Commonwealth (made up by most of the countries in the world) unprotected at any moment.
Este relato sigue a una Cenicienta cyborg y mecánica experta, tratando de sacar lo mejor de sus días mientras vive bajo la tutela de una madre que no la quiere y una hermana que la trata como servidumbre. I thought the retelling aspect was very well used throughout the weaving of this new narrative. It was enough for the reader to be able to relate some aspects and events between Cinder and the original Cinderella, but not too much, making it a somewhat original story. The key elements are still there: Cinderella being the unwanted child with two sisters, the sparkly dress, the sneaking to the ball, the midnight deadline, the lost “shoe”... But it still has many new things that help bring to life this first installment in The Lunar Chronicles saga and to make it a great one.
Considero que el aspecto de recuento fue muy bien usado a lo largo de la creación de esta nueva narrativa. Fue suficiente para que el lector fuese capaz de relacionar algunos aspecto y eventos entre Cinder y la Cenicienta original, pero no demasiado , convirtiéndola en una historia considerablemente original. Los elementos clave siguen ahí: Cenicienta siendo la hija no deseada con dos hermanas, el vestido brillante, el escabulirse al baile, el límite de medianoche, la “zapatilla” perdida... Pero aun así tiene tantas cosas nuevas que ayudan a traer a la vida a esta primera entrega de la saga de Crónicas Lunares y a hacerla una genial.

Though I have to be honest. It was only after the first half or the second third of the book when it really got me hooked. Is not that it was boring at the beginning, because many interesting things happened that kept me guessing and trying to come up with my own conclusions for the ending, but the pace was a little too slow. I still recommend it because it is very good, so good I hadn't already finished it and I ordered the next one to keep on reading about it asap and I think it does a great job as the first book in a series, which is to lay the groundwork for the world-building and presenting the characters, ending in a cliffhanger.
Sin embargo, debo ser honesta. Solamente hasta después de la primera mitad o el segundo tercio del libro fue que quedé enganchada. No es que haya sido aburrido al inicio, ya que pasaron muchas cosas interesantes que me mantenían adivinando y tratando de hacer mis propias conclusiones sobre el final, pero el ritmo fue un poco lento. Aun así lo recomiento porque es muy bueno, tan bueno que aun no lo terminaba y ordené el siguiente libro para seguir leyendo lo más pronto posible y pienso que hace un gran trabajo como el primer libro de una serie, que es sentar las bases para la construcción del mundo y presentar a los personajes, terminando en un momento de suspenso.

There's also something that I personally appreciated very much that the author did. She took a princess fairy tale, popularized for having a damsel in distress that ultimately is saved by a prince just for being pretty and of small feet, and made it a story about resilience and self-discovery, while still keeping the romance in but not making it the star of the show.
Además hay algo que hizo la autora y que personalmente aprecié muchísimo. Tomó un cuento de hadas de princesas, popularizado por tener a una damisela en peligro que finalmente es salvada por un príncipe sólo por ser bonita y tener pies pequeños, y lo convirtió en una historia sobre resiliencia y descubrimiento personal, mientras mantuvo el elemento romántico pero sin darle protagonismo.

I really really liked it. I can't wait to see how the other princesses turned out.

Dada la alternancia entre los puntos de vista, el libro comienza un poco lento. Sin embargo, rápidamente acelera el paso con Casiopea y Hun-Kamé embarcándose en una odisea a través de México en los 1920s pero también a través de una tierra de mitos traídos a la vida, magia negra y chu'lel.

Siendo este mi segundo libro de Silvia Moreno-García, después de Mexican Gothic, no me decepcionó para nada. Su abilidad para crear un mundo tan claro basado en descripciones de las vistas, los olores y sensaciones, es nuevamente asombroso y alucinante. Pude verlo todo tan claro en mi mente, pero también olerlo todo y sentirlo todo. Los personajes están bien definidos en su apariencia, sus maneras y sus pensamientos. Todo está construido tan cuidadosamente, que es increíble cómo todas las pequeñas piezas que descubrimos a lo largo del libro encajan perfectamente al final. Incluso me gustó el “villano” por como estaba construido; lo desprecié, pero me gustó el personaje.

At length she came upon a lake that glowed an eerie blue, as if all the stars had fallen into the water and nestled in its bottom.
Al fin ela se encontró con un lago que brillaba de un azul misterioso, como si todas las estrellas hubieran caido dentro del agua y se hubieran anidado en el fondo.

Mi cosa favorita del libro fue que cada parada en su viaje fue como una historia corta en sí misma. Se desconectaba un poco de la trma prinipal; no tanto como para perder coherencia y continuidad, pero lo suficiente para que el lector la saboreara por sí misma.

I'm only not giving it five stars because of the slow start and the somewhat anti-climactic ending. It was a good ending, but was missing a little extra given all we were handed throughout the novel.

Hay historias de miedo, historias llenas de magia, de misterio y de engaños, además de historias de heroísmo y de valentía. solamente no le daré cinco estrellas por el inicio lento y el final un poco anti climático. Fue un buen final, pero le faltó un pequeño extra dado todo lo que nos brindaron a lo largo de la novela.

Definitivamente añadiré el resto de su trabajo a mi lista de “Quiero Leer”.

It was a nice addition to the backstory of what we're told in the first installment of The Lunar Chronicles saga. Though there are not much blanks to fill, it helped clear up some things that were implied or barely mentioned in Cinder .

There's not much to tell without spoiling the content; I would recommend it, though, if looking for a bit more content on Lihn Cinder's story.

For me, this was one of those rare cases where I liked the movie better than the book. In my opinion, the movie is perfection; when it premiered, I watched it over and over again for about a week or two. Is so cute and endearing, with enough drama to keep it interesting without becoming annoying, with lovely visuals and a lovely portrayal of the characters.
Para mi, este fue uno de esos casos raros en que me gustó más la película que el libro. En mi opinión, la película es perfecta; cuando se estrenó, la vi una y otra vez por al menos una semana o dos. I don't know if it has anything to do with the fact that I watched the movie first and perhaps my expectations were different, but this was not what I was expecting after also hearing that the film was a loyal adaptation. -Chris. Perhaps I saw in her something of an old friendship I used to have, but I thought Christine is the worst friend ever. Yes, she was there throw sh*t to whomever wronged Lara Jean and lift her up when she was feeling bad, I'll give her that, but aside from that, she just took and took but almost never gave back. And when she did, it was mostly because her self-interests were involved. I felt like she's the kind of friend that constantly asks for favors or to cover for them and is mad if you don't come through, but you can barely count on them because they're always "busy" or doing something else.-Chris. Talvez vi en ella algo de una vieja amistad que solía tener, pero pensé que Christine es la peor amiga. Sí, ella estaba ahí para tirar m**rda a quién sea que le hiciera daño Lara Jean y animarla cuando se sentía mal, le daré eso, pero además de eso, sólo tomaba y tomaba pero casi nunca daba de vuelta. Y cuando lo hacía, era principalmente porque involucraba sus propios intereses. I get that she carries with the burden of being the older sister: a role model for her younger siblings, a mom figure, a model student; and that all that can and will eventually become too much for a teenager, nobody's perfect. Nevertheless, there's no character growth from her in the entire book. From what we as readers know about her while still living at her parent's house and how she behaves when coming back home for the first time after leaving for college -even in the meantime when she's away-, she always comes across as doing things (solidary, charitable, selfless things) just to be better than anybody else and not necessarily for the solely purpose of benefiting others. And the whole situation of the "Recital Party" with her discovering Lara Jean's feelings for Josh and what happened between them while she was away and broken up with him, really made me mad. First of all, in that moment it was crystal clear that it wasn't Lara Jean's fault nor intention that Josh found out about her liking him before or that he kissed her, it was all Josh. Second of all, THEY WERE BROKEN UP; Margot herself was going on and on about him "needing to move on", even to him, so she wasn't in any right to demand anything from Josh even if she really didn't mean it. And lastly, if she really had her sister's best interest in mind, why the hell would she first believe what everybody else was saying instead of trusting her sister and what she was telling her?! (I also hated that Lara Jean begged so much for her forgiveness when she didn't do anything wrong). Overall, I didn't like Margot at all.-Margot. Es tan mezquina y llena de sí misma. Entiendo que carga con el peso de ser la hermana mayor: un modelo a seguir para sus hermanas más jóvenes, una figura materna, una estudiante modelo; y que todo eso puede eventualmente volverse demasiado para una adolescente, nadie es perfecto. No obstante, no hay crecimiento de su personaje en todo el libro. Y toda la situación sobre la "Fiesta de Recital" con ella descubriendo los sentimientos de Lara Jean por Josh y lo que pasó entre ellos mientras ella no estaba y ya había terminado con él, realmente me hizo enojar. Primeramente, en ese momento estaba claro como el agua que no fue culpa ni intención de Lara Jean qye Josh se enterara de que a ella le gustaba anteriormente o de que él la besara, todo fue por Josh. En segundo lugar, HABIAN TERMINADO; Margot misma insistía en que él "tenía que superarlo", incluso a él, así que no tenía ningún derecho de demandar nada de Josh aunque realmente no lo dijera enserio. Y finalmente, si realmente tenía en mente lo mejor para su hermana, ¡¿por qué demonios primero creería lo que todo el mundo estaba diciendo de ella en lugar de confiar en su hermana y en lo que ella estaba diciendo?! He's honest, supportive while keeping things real, caring, respectful, funny, trustworthy... I could go on and on but I think this pretty much sums it up. He's just a great character.-Lucas Krapf. I liked very much that, contrary to the movie, there's mention of Kitty wanting a dog since the beginning of the book and all throughout the story until she gets one. But also, all that she does and all that she grows until she finally demonstrates that she's responsible enough to take care of a puppy. I thought it was a very nice touch and a good message on working for what you want.-La continuidad sobre el perro de Kitty. Me gustó mucho que, contratio a la película, se hace mención de que Kitty quiere un perro desde el inicio del libro y durante toda la historia hasta que obtiene uno. However, this ends up being a representation of Peter's character growth and development along the book, and it also shows something of how we, people, actually evolve during our lives, learning from our mistakes but sometimes falling back up until we reach the turning point. He starts up as the you'd-be-lucky-if-i-show-interest-in-you popular kid that every girl wants to date but he also is very cute, considered and doesn't let anybody's opinion affect him or bring him down; all his best qualities shine brighter by the end of the book but I feel like they also help Lara Jean grow and become a better version of herself, more fearless and with more self-esteem.-Peter Kavinsky. Ok, previamente dije que podía ser despreciable en diferentes puntos de la historia. Sin embargo, esto termina siendo una representación del crecimiento de Peter como personaje y su desarrollo a lo largo del libro, y también demuestra algo de como nosotros, como personas, realmente evolucionamos durante nuestras vidas, aprendiendo de nuestros errores pero algunas veces cayendo de nuevo hasta que alcanzamos el punto de quiebre. So this is directly a comparison to the movie. I did like very much that we got to see and live more of the Korean heritage in Lara Jean's life, which is part of the deep connection she and her family still have to her late mother. It's so interesting to know that their dad constantly tries to cook Korean food, or that they celebrate Korean holidays along with her mom's side of the family and that they (mostly) love it.-Vemos más del patrimonio de la familia Song en el libro. Esto es una comparación directa con la película. Me gustó mucho que pudimos ver y vivir más de la herencia Coreana en la vida de Lara Jean, que es parte de la conexión tan profunda que ella y su familian aun tienen con su madre difunta. This is a minor thing and also a directly a comparison to the movie: I liked that in the book, Peter states that he wants to do the whole show of being Lara Jean's fake boyfriend so he can prove to Gen and everyone else that he's over her and the she doesn't own him; contrary to what we see in the movie that is that he does it so Gen gets jealous and takes him back.-La razón de Peter para "salir" con Lara Jean.
