I loved this one! The dystopic theme is really great as well as in the first book of the series and up to that, this book had some parts that somehow reminded a horror book. What I loved the most were short chapters and also the fact that even the reader couldn't believe what is real and what isn't, who to believe and who not to. Everything changed from one chapter to the other one so you have to stay focused why reading. Can't wait for the third book.
This boo was fast paced and action packed but it just leaves me with more questions without answering any questions that I had after reading the first book. I am still just as lost and confused as I was when I started this series.
This book was a really good sequel to [b:The Maze Runner 6186357 The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) James Dashner https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1375596592s/6186357.jpg 6366642]. It didn't disappoint as most second books do. It held action at every page, and I couldn't predict any of the plot twists that happened. The characters developed nicely, and reacted to their situations realistically.
A lot of people hated this book. I have read reviews labeling it tedious, laborious, and gratuitously painful for the protagonist. In my opinion, things are just as they ought to be in the lives of Thomas and his band of “candidates.”
First, the blueprints W.I.C.K.E.D. is attempting to map out/discover must be the neurological pathways triggered by various life circumstances, responses, emotions, etc. Furthermore, I believe they are attempting to discover how those pathways react with/possibly defeat the neurological disease wreaking havoc in the world.
Second, given the theory I have illustrated above, that is what book two is all about. Book one was fantastic. A completely new idea, filled with intrigue, and it left all of us wanting to discover more; wanting to discover why. The Scorch Trials is here to set the stage for Book three.
Third, do not tell me you expected anything to change, or for things to get better at the end of this installment. The casual nonchalance of the guy at the end, the one Thomas was pointing a gun at, was way too practiced to be anything but planned for.
Lastly, and most brilliant of all, is the (don't worry I won't spoil it for you) relationship between Thomas and Teresa... Brilliant. Fine work Dashner. Damn fine.
The moment I was saying to myself “I wanna read another book because this one is making me angry and anxious and everything else a human being can be” THE PLOT TWIST IN THE FINAL CHANGED MY POINT OF VIEW!
Even if I don't want to, I must read the last book of this trilogy.

Very mixed feelings with this book.
Overall I really enjoyed it, but it started out slow and took a while for something to happen, but as soon as it did things were just flying left and right, going 200mph like some insanity, and then I didn't like the end all that much either. BUT THE MIDDLE WAS SO GOOD AND IT WAS THE LARGEST PART OF THE BOOK
I'm excited for the movie, oh yeah.
to this point, I don't know who to trust and feel sorry for those kids, at the same time admiring their bravery. That's a good book, right?
Like the book before, the story becomes more interesting in the second half/last chapters of the book.
There is some forced escalation of trust issues between certain characters (Thomas and Teresa) that never felt too serious. It was easy to predict how things would go in the end.
One thing that annoyed me was the repetition. There are too many sentences conveying feelings that were already expressed numerous times (I lost count of the times that Thomas said he felt guilty for Teresa about being with Brenda).
It is an alright book, probably better than the first, with more visual and visceral scenes that better depict the world, I think, the writer is trying to expose.
The former had the labyrinth enigma/puzzle as its main focus, while this one focuses more on the relationship between the characters and trust feelings.
Let's see how the third one goes and wraps it up.

Así que con toda la publicidad que ahora está recibiendo la continuación de El Corredor del Laberinto con su futura adaptación al cine no quería ser víctima de un spoiler.Una cosa que he mencionado anteriormente sobre mí es mi obsesión con el estudio del comportamiento humano, no soy psicóloga, aun así eso no me ha detenido de leer libros sobre análisis de personalidad y comportamiento en grupo, y que por suerte durante toda mi vida me topé con profesores que siempre estuvieron dispuestos a responder mis dudas. Y con todo eso quiero decir:¿WTF JAMES DASHNER?Algo que siempre me es gracioso es como con algunos libros la gente dice “Pero esto no es posible, no tiene base científica”, sobre todo en libros distópicos que están tan de moda (si no me creen, solo basta hacer una pequeña búsqueda en reseñas de Divergente y verán, por darles un ejemplo obvio). Lo que se me hizo interesante del primer libro era como la Empresa / Organización / Fundación CRUEL pone a estos chicos al límite esperando estudiar y adelantar sus reacciones ¿qué megalómano que se digne de llamarse megalómano no disfruta con eso? Sobre todo porque son varones, una especie que tiene la conducta más volátil y desorganizada. Y primitiva. Para mí en el primer libro se me hizo tan extraño que los chicos del Área reaccionarán de una manera tan civilizada a la llegada de Teresa, pero lo dejé pasar. Es un primer libro ¿verdad? Es introductorio, dejemos pasar la ligera misoginia del escritor y demás.Sólo que en Prueba de Fuego, nuestro querido Dashner incorpora más chicas. Y lo más gracioso es que él quiere hacerme creer a MÍ que una grupo de CHICAS va tener la misma reacción y resultado que los chicos, cuando hay una infinidad de estudios que demuestran que NUNCA vas a obtener un resultado igual entre varones y mujeres.Y no estoy diciendo esto por “oh, las mujeres somos lo mejor, los hombres apestan, tírenles piedras”. Es simple estudio de comportamiento de género. Hay un ejemplo muy común y simple que un profesor me dijo una vez: separa un salón de clase en dos, en una habitación pon solo a las chicas y en otro solo a los chicos (¿se te hace conocido esto?) y verás que mientras los chicos están haciendo escándalo y desorden, el grupo de chicas será más silencioso y organizado.No es sexismo, no es feminismo, es ciencia. Así que Dashner, puede que sí, que los dos grupos pueden tener la misma reacción, pero no al mismo tiempo ni en el mismo periodo de tiempo, es absurdo.Se me hizo tan infantil este libro. Cuando nuestros queridos Habitantes tienen que seguir con la historia y aventurarse a lugares peligrosos, lo único que pensaba es “¿ésta es la mega ultra trama y aventura y acción que medio mundo ama? O sea, ¿EN SERIO?” A pesar de sus incontables desmayos, al menos El Corredor del Laberinto tuvo más acción, Prueba de Fuego se me hizo como leer la transcripción de un video juego simple, sin sorpresas porque ya sabía en qué momento pasaría algo, cada nivel tiene un obstáculo oh oh que miedo.Mary Sue.Mary Sue es un tipo de personaje, en inglés así se les conoce a los personajes femeninos que siempre tienen que salvar y todo el mundo queda enamorado de ella y nadie sabe cómo o por qué pero termina salvando el día. O sea una protagonista femenina común de las historias románticas Young Adult que amamos y odiamos. ¿Por qué digo esto? Porque Thomas, Tommy Tom, ES Mary Sue, no su contraparte masculina, este Marie Sue solo tiene la particularidad de tener pene, aunque no lo parezca. Tenemos párrafos y párrafos y más párrafos de Tommy hablando, suspirando y llorando por Teresa. Y no de la manera linda y sexy y desgarradora que algunos escritores se la ingenian para sentir lástima por el llorón... digo, el personaje. Además sufre por Teresa, el personaje más insípido que hay. (Más info de Mary Sue en Wikipedia)¿Algo bueno?Minho y Newt, solo ellos hacen llevadera la historia.No soy el tipo de lectora que es difícil de convencer ¿dragones en el mundo real? Te lo creo ¿Poderes mágicos? Te lo creo, porque para mí son sólo historias, historias que me emocionan de leer durante un rato. En otras palabras soy una lectora poco exigente y aun así, se me hizo interminable este libro, con muy poca gracia. Me ha sorprendido un poco no encontrar críticas del libro que hablen sobre la pobre base científica. ¿Será porqué el escritor es hombre? No quiero pensar que eso pero no sería raro.¿Leeré el tercero? Beaucoup plus intéressant et psychologique que le premier, l'intrigue est vraiment bien ficelée et pose beaucoup de questions. Ça donne juste envie de dévorer le dernier tome de la trilogie :)
Primeiro de tudo: AMO O MIN HO E NEWT! E tenho dito!
Thomas se mostrou muito mais pró-ativo esse livro, o que foi muito bom!! Embora mega confusa com o final, assim que terminei de ler estava extremamente apavorada e aflita. O começo do livro foi um pouco arrastado de fato, o que fez o livro ficar eternamente na minha lista de enrolando... Muito triste, para um final recompensador.
ainda me irrita um pouco essa falta de explicação de “o que acontece de verdade”, afinal nunca sabemos se CRUEL é bom ou ruim.
Confirmei algumas vertentes que carreguei do primeiro livro:
1. Thomas pode realmente ser um bom líder se começar a tomar mais na cara e ter que se virar.
2. Teresa é uma biscate. Das grossas.
3. MinHo seria melhor líder ativo, mas Newt é a razão (e gostaria de ser amiga deles para todo sempre)
4. Nada nesse mundo faz muito sentido
5. Não é uma das melhores escritas da face da terra
6. Livro bem “de menino” e mesmo o romance não é algo que te envolve. Por mim, tanto Brenda quanto Teresa podem dar as mãos e se jogar de um penhasco, pois acho a melhor forma de elas enriquecerem a história
Ao contrário de muitas opiniões a respeito, achei esse livro (o final pelo menos) melhor que o Maze Runner. Muito embora, o labirinto seja muito mais envolvente e desafiador.
Acredito que a ideia inicial do autor era que o leitor, ao decorrer da série, sempre se sentisse no labirinto, com coisas como: as charadas não acabaram, a sensação de perdido não acabou, os mistérios, problemas, a necessidade de ser esperto, desvendar, sobreviver e correr atras de uma saída sem se perder, nada disso acabou. Apenas mudou-se o cenário.
Estes foram alguns dos pontos de vista desse livro.. espero que os próximos dois sejam mais esclarecedores que os primeiros

The first book ended on a cliff hanger and I eagerly continued on with the series.
I enjoyed the book to a point but alas I can rate it no more than average. That is not to say I wouldn't recommend carrying on with the series only that we took a step back.
I'm glad I didn't have to wait to start thr 3rd either or I would have been stuck in a cliif hanger!!

ATENÇÃO: Esse livro é o segundo volume da série Maze Runner, cujo primeiro é Correr ou Morrer, e essa resenha contém spoilers do livro anterior.
Depois do labirinto, mais perigos estão por vir. Os meninos acreditam estar em segurança em um refúgio para o qual foram levados depois de sair da Clareira e passarem por maus momentos, mas acordam no dia seguinte e tem uma surpresa: nada está parecido com o que era no dia anterior. Criaturas grotescas, os Cranks estão nas janelas berrando e várias coisas mudaram na instalação em que se encontram. E pouco tempo depois descobrem que começa a segunda fase de testes.
Precisam então enfrentar algo que parece pior que o labirinto: o mundo real. Calor excessivo, tempestades perigosas, criaturas insanas os ameaçam e além disso há um grande problema: não sabem no que nem em quem confiar. Pode esse desafio ser o fim das provações e a descoberta da verdade?
Confesso que praticamente emendei o segundo na leitura do primeiro. Terminei um em um dia e comecei o segundo no dia seguinte. Por mais irritada e incomodada que ficasse com a história, fiquei totalmente presa. E esse segundo livro me prendeu ainda mais.
Thomas e os clareanos se veem em uma situação desesperadora: precisam cumprir algumas coisas para chegar ao objetivo final e ficar à salvo. Mas, além dos problemas físicos e das ameaças externas, ainda estão com perda de memória e não sabem no que confiar. Perderam muita coisa nesse processo e tentam desesperadamente não perder mais nada.
O ritmo desse livro é intenso, e como no primeiro, algumas coisas eu consegui adivinhar antes que acontecessem, mas, ao contrário do que normalmente ocorre, isso não me irritou, só me deixou mais eufórica e nervosa em vários trechos. Porque, no caso desse livro, as cenas são tão emocionais que eu acabo me envolvendo tanto que não ligo para surpresas (apesar de ter algumas, com certeza). Uma coisa que o livro conseguiu me passar perfeitamente: eu também não sabia no que confiar. Será que o que foi passado agora é mentira, será que vão mudar depois?
Consegui me ver mais presa à história nesse livro que, o que pode parecer impossível, tem um ritmo bem mais rápido. Consegui sentir raiva (muita mesmo, tem trechos que me deixaram indignada), alegria, nervoso, alívio e claro, confusão. Foram introduzidos novos personagens e alguns deles me conquistaram. Acho que a grande questão desse livro é: qual o limite da humanidade e do indivíduo quando se trata de sobreviver?
Só sei de uma coisa: estou doida para saber como o autor vai fechar essa história e morrendo de medo de receber um final decepcionante. O mundo como é descrito é muito triste e difícil de se viver, então não espero nada otimista demais, mas que o desfecho dos personagens seja consistente.

I was so excited to get this book after reading the Maze Runner. However, this installment was harder to follow, and I just didn't care about any of the characters. That made me frustrated.
The plot certainly keeps moving, and I'd recommend it to anyone who read the first book. I'm going on to The Death Cure because I always have to know how it ends.
Short Review: The Scorch Trials breaks the mold from other recent young adult dystopian trilogies. It kept me guessing about what was going to happen next. Thomas, one of a group of teens that broke out of a maze in the first book, has not managed to break free of WICKED. WICKED is testing the teens for an unknown purpose. At the beginning of the book, the test becomes more overt. A man in a white suit tells them that they are being tested. The goal of the current test is to go 100 miles in two weeks across a desert landscape. Should they manage to stay alive, they will be given the cure for a disease that all of them had been exposed to. There is a lot of double dealing and suspicion in this book. Who is really part of the test and who is from WICKED? And does it really matter in the end if the accomplish the task, will WICKED actually cure them?

I know that the second book in this series was far better than the first but I'm not sure why. Maybe I find myself invested in Tom and his fight against this huge unknown ambiguous force that has been making his life a living hell. The pacing was definitely better in this book. I didn't find myself bored for stretches of time like the case in the Maze Runner. I also enjoyed the new characters.
