If you’re looking for an insufferable protagonist, character assassinations to serve a flimsy plot, and book lore that makes no sense—this book delivers. On top of that, if voyeuristic scenes with newlyweds are your thing, you might be in for a treat. For me, it was a cringey read, and frankly, I have more thoughts, but this book isn’t worth the effort. 1 out of 5 stars.
As a diehard werewolf fanfic girl this book ate down for me. Towards the end it lost me a little bit, but honestly, I think that's because I tend to read a bit more high fantasy now instead of cute stories like this. Whenever I would read werewolf fics on Wattpad as a kid, I would get such an intense feeling that would swallow me whole and this book made me experience that. IF YOU ARE NOT A WEREWOLF FANFIC GIRL I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO U BECAUSE IDK IF YOU WOULD TRULY BE ABLE TO ENJOY IT.
this had no business being this fun
also a bummer there was no werewolf named jacob that would've been sick
First Ali Hazelwood is locked IN.
I'll admit I'm an absolute fool for vampire/werewolf pairings so that was what initially drew me to this, and arranged marriages occasionally tickle my fancy if they're done well. I think this was done well! The best way to describe this couple is that they were just...chill? There wasn't really any extra drama with them other than the obvious conflict with their species and all that but they never seemed to actually hate each other, which is bad news if you came into this looking for an enemies to lovers, but good news if you didn't come into this expecting that, which was me. They only really had one big conflict which was resolved pretty quickly at the end of the book, so I'm fine with it.
The characters were lovable, the plot was simple but fun, and I did like the main couple. There were a couple things that came off as goofy to me - why do Weres and Vampyres have different colored blood? are you telling me these people are blushing GREEN and Misery still finds it endearing? - but it didn't take away any of the enjoyment for me. This was a very solid 4 star read!
This took me back to my Wattpad days! I don't understand how this was so good but dam Ali you did it and I don't know how you did but dam

sex scenes were cringe but the romance was... actually sweet? holy shit it wasnt COMPLETE lust over love it felt like there was actual love in it even tho lowe LOWE LMFAO was obsessed with her immediately
all the mates and alpha shit was cringe too sorry i just cant stand it
i still dont know what knotting is and i dont know if i want to know
This was absolutely a 5 star for me
The vibes were perfect from the very beginning. I thought I was going to hate this world cause modern-day-earthxfantasy doesn't do it for me but she made it work.
I loved Misery. She probably has one of my favorite fmc personalities of all time now. Yes I did hate her name and I appreciate that the characters also didn't let it slide.
Her torturing Alex was one of my favorite things to read.
Lowe is a freaking dream, the absolute king of protective alpha personalities.
This book just itched every microtrope scratch I had, intense when it had to be and fun all the way through
This was my first Ali Hazelwood book and I devoured it. I'm looking forward to a sequel if she decides to write one.
The relationship's evolution was so sweet, even in its misunderstandings. It often gets frustrating to read about the communication struggles in romances, but here it felt refreshing. The plot wasn't amazingly complex but it was still well built and grabbed me super fast. I'm usually not too bad at seeing twists happen but not this time, and it was pretty fun
My first TikTok-sensation, Wattpad-type book. And I'm not happy. The story itself was not bad at all. An arranged marriage between a vampire and a werewolf - Fun! I loved the sassy dialogues, the oh-so-predictable character traits of the leads, it was all good and easy to read. But then towards the end, for some bizarre reason, the author decided to turn this into a steamy, awfully spicy, vomit-inducing tale. Too graphic. Far too graphic and disgusting for my taste. This book would have been rated much higher if it weren't for those last chapters.
4.5 estrellas
I LOVED this book.
It was a quick read, but so interesting, detailed and oh so good. The tension between Misery and Lowe was incredible, the tension between the vampires, werewolves, and humans was great, and the plot was super good!
I loved Misery as our FMC, and really felt for her and everything she has gone through in her life. She didn't deserve any of it and still continued to sacrifice over and over. To feel as though you don't belong anywhere? I cannot imagine, and I loved seeing her persevere regardless. She held her own in werewolf territory, and all while continuing to try and find her sister and staying under the radar.
Lowe can take me as his mate anytime... he is sexy, smart, a good man, and a great leader. I loved him going back and forth with Misery, wanting her and wanting to trust her, trying to protect his sister and his people, all while dealing with his new role as alpha.
Then we have the spice, the spice tension, and knotting??? 10/10 spice for me. It was so good and there was so much build up, I loved it!
I loved this book so much, I did not want it to finish. I truly hope Ali Hazelwood continues to write more in this universe, because there are at least 2 other couples' stories I would love to read!
After hearing WithCindy and The Book Leo's rating of this book, I thought that I had to give it a try especially since I was on the brink of a reading slump. Reading fun stories have been proven as a reliable remedy for it.
First off, I've never read an Ali Hazelwood book before this one so I didn't know about her writing style. I didn't hate it, but there were times the protagonist (and all the characters really except for Ana) that felt younger than 25.
I really did like Misery as a character. I felt that I could relate to her interpersonal relationships and her way of dealing with things throughout the book. However, I did not like Lowe in the second half of the book. I'm not going to say much bc of spoilers and all that jazz, but I would very much have liked to slap him if I were Misery.
There's also a part near the climax where a character is exposition-ing and it's them basically rambling and Misery saying ‘W-What??!?!' as a reaction each time
and then more rambling. This continues for five pages.
Overall, I did enjoy the book even though some of the spicy scenes made me set the book down and contemplate all of humanity's creations and legacy upon the universe. -cough cough the kn*t scene cough cough-
But knowing that there might be a sequel and that it might be a relationship with a Were...and knowing how they do it... yeah I don't think I'll be picking up the second book.
The book was mostly enjoyable, I laughed a few times, the spice was good, blood drinking scenes were hot but I absolutely HATE the whole trope where a character purposely hurts the other cause they don't feel like they deserve the relationship. That happened here and it honestly ruined the whole relationship for me. Misery deserves better.
A little cringey, but felt self-aware and fully had me kicking my feet and giggling lol 🙃
Fun story. World building was kinda sparse, but it fits with Misery being isolated from what she should have grown up with. Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and I enjoyed this.
It was nostalgic to all the werewolves books I used to read. I loved it. Misery was fun, sassy, and just wanted to find her missing sister. So good.
It paid to have read all the omegaverse manhwas so I wouldn't have to google anything. It was borderline dystopian something and half the time, nothing is making sense.

TLDR: Book lacked real fantasy elements and the spice was nonexistent. FMC is a bag of bricks and miscommunication/misunderstanding is the whole plot. MMC is there and kinda boring. Not a real alpha-hole.
Review:
This book was bad. Like really bad. The FMC is a vampyre (so they say), but there is nothing about her being a vampire except she drinks out of blood bags and occasionally her husband. We know the vampires can "thrall" aka mind control folks, but that's it. That's all we know. Oh they sleep during the day. These have to be the most boring vampires I've read in years. Even Twilight's vampires had something. These vampires - I feel are humans in disguise. Even Misery says the humans are stronger than them. LAME! The whole point of being a different species is getting some perks. Just boo! Also, is Misery digesting this peanut butter? Just a side thought since they don't eat human foods? No explanation there. Why don't they eat it besides they're better than everyone else? Does it hurt them or could they eat it? No clue.
The werewolves (which I'm pretty sure are just supposed to be called shifters, since werewolves and shifters are typically two different things, but they still go by weres here???) do what they do. I don't really have any major complaints about them. The humans were humans.
I kept forgetting about Ms. Paris. I can't even remember her first name now. I know the cat's name! Sparkles! Misery's bestie was forgettable and I felt nothing for her sadly. She just wasn't written well. That cat had more to substance than she did.
Lowe was not really the typical alpha-hole. He was an architect and gave everything up for his pack. He was an adoring brother. He's BIG. Like Big. Big shoes, (size 14), big hands, tall, big body, big dick. Everything about him is big, and you won't forget it. The whole book. We got it. He's big damn. He doesn't think they will work together, blah, blah, blah. The other wolves/shifters I've seen will go for their mates no matter what. At least making it known. This was just not the behavior we typically see, and it was lacking honestly. Sorry. There really wasn't anything that stuck out about him. He was just there. Sorry.
Misery is dumb as a bag of bricks. She was so dumb the entire time. She's a computer wiz. She doesn't care about people (a big reason for her and bestie's fight), but she latches on to Ana immediately and runs into the sun for her? Not sure how we got there. She took forever to figure out she was Lowe's mate. I can forgive her for hearing it at the wedding, but as time went on she just never put it together. It was right there. I hate misunderstanding tropes. That was literally the plot here the entire time. That and not knowing anything. She didn't know anything. The sex was randomly put in and just boring. It was boring.
Seeing into this world was non-existent. She was a horrible first person character to follow. She said she spent no time with the vampyres but we kept getting these paragraphs about what they do. She is so stagnant and boring. She doesn't make any real efforts to learn anything about the vampyres or the weres. She hates how she was the collateral, but instead of doing anything she just whines about it sits in her misery. Her brother was making some moves at the end of the book and Misery could care less. No helping him stop the collateral stuff or even helping to shape the people even when she noted how stressed he was. It's disappointing. She wanted to know about were culture and their "words", but only talked to Lowe. If everyone was so nice to her go out and ask them. Like? Duh... Anyways, this is something I wish I could get my time back on. This is a double skip for me. I won't be picking up another Ali Hazelwood book. This was my first & last.
