ali, babes, i love your books but for the love of god please never write smut again (the knotting gave me trauma)

LOVED this is paranormal lite if I have ever read it. Let me tell ya I'm not the biggest fan of this shifting and the entire omegaverse thang BUT this did it for me. I saw someone saying how these people were just real people but with little fantasy sprinkled and yes! they didn't like that aspect but that is what I loved. This wasn't overwhelming like omegaverse had felt for me in the past. It was simple and not what the fuck is happening with little addition of omegaverse sin aspects like heats.
I was so nervous to read Ali hazelwoods writing due to hearing it was a little goofy and truthfully her STEM novels really didn't interest me. I loved the way she wrote banter and the ânerdâ things written into it, I got a few good chuckles out of this book. I went to the library today and picked up another book by her that's how much I loved it.
The relationship was entirely too cute and I adored the slow progression. Little mystery plot with arranged marriage and some slight found family moments. Such a easy book to read and it filled the gap I wanted of a romance/character based book with fantastical elements. I was in a slump and I'm pretty damn sure this took me out.
I'm not a connoisseur of paranormal romance, but this was intriguing with a bit of a mystery wrapped up in it. It did, however, move pretty slow in parts, but the attraction was well-written.
I liked this. I like this a lot. Misery is a vampyre but she's had a horrible time of it - first her dad (head of the vampire council) sent her off as a child to be a 10-year collateral with the human, then he signed her up to marry Lowe Moreland to make peace with the werewolves.
She does it for her own reasons, her best friend, a human called Serena has disappeared and the only clue Misery could find is a ripped piece of paper with 'L. E. Moreland' on it - Lowe must be involved. Turns out Lowe's kid half-sister takes a shine to Misery when she's stuck in the were complex and Misery tries to save the kid sister. Turns out Serena, like Ana, is a human-were hybrid. Serena was kidnapped by the vampires and kept hostage for months whilst Misery cracked the case.
In the meantime we learnt more about Vampyres and Werewolves and their physiology, shrug every day's a learning day.
Not suuuuper into him being dickish for that 3rd act (let's just call it) break up. But beside that?? I ate this book up. Started it and did not want to put it down.
I hope hope hope we get another book in this world.
Wow, this gets 5 âď¸ as I couldn't put it down! I heard about this book on YouTube and they mentioned that one part (IYKYK) that had me SO curious as they made it sound horrible but honestly.. it really isn't that bad. IDK đ¤ˇđťââď¸ I've read raunchier monster romances before. I had zero clue what this book was about and I've never read a book by Ali but I'm 100% glad I read this! I also loved the FMC's sarcastic banter. Other than being a vamp, I feel like she's so relatable. It's been awhile since I've read a book I couldn't put down
I've had 0 interest in any of Ali Hazelwood's books before this, but I kept hearing how ~wild this was. Y'all, this book is downright delightful.
I liked this way more than I thought I would. There were a few very obvious parts of the mystery, and some of the smut was a little too technical for my taste, but I enjoyed it overall.

My new comfort book đ
The short review: This books is my 2024 FAVE. (And yes I have read SJM's HOFAS....)(Honestly this should say alot xD)
The longer review:
The book dedication was a great start to an awesome adeventure. The story was very sweet and funny, but not cringey. The author knew how to combine every good thing about werewolf& vampire books and merge it together. It truly reminded me of the feeling you got after scrolling for hours on wattpad and somehow be lucky enough to find a rare pearl.
I do hope the author continues the series.
I've heard such good things about this book and I've like Ali Hazelwood's writing before but this was next level for me, I love fantasy and paranormal romance and her writing so what her previous books have lacked for me was made up in this book. I blazed through this and could not put it down, I was attached to the characters the whole time. The only wish I had is that we got more of Lowe's POV but that is not enough to make me upset with the book at all.
âBrideâ brings a fresh twist to the romantasy genre, blending elements of love and fantasy in a story that's both unique and intriguing. The characters truly shine in this tale, with their depth and charm creating a strong emotional core that carries the narrative. The protagonist's journey through love and magical challenges is engaging, highlighting her growth and resilience in a world brimming with both beauty and danger. The love interest, with a mysterious aura and a complex backstory, adds an intriguing layer to the romance, making their relationship a focal point of the story.
However, despite its strengths, the novel sometimes struggles with pacing and originality in its plot, occasionally veering into familiar tropes that can detract from its overall impact. Additionally, while the world-building is imaginative, it at times feels underdeveloped, leaving readers wanting more depth and clarity in the magical system and the setting's history.
Still, âBrideâ offers endearing characters and moments of genuine emotion, making it a worthwhile read for fans of the genre looking for a story with heart and a touch of magic. It's a solid addition to the romantasy shelf, but it may leave some readers desiring a bit more substance and polish to match its promising premise.
Felt like I was reading a fanfiction, but not in a good way, because I've read some top-tier ones.
The plot is basically centred around a forced marriage / forbidden love between a vampire and a werewolf. Maybe could have enjoyed it more if there was more lore building or story behind it (like more high fantasy vibes) but it felt a bit too romance-heavy for me.
This is knot* what I expected. The audiobook is perfection. Loveeeeeee how unique the POVs are. Stannnnnnning
As a GoodReads reviewer said it first:
I am now traumatized with the word knot.
I thought the last 25% fell a bit flat and things got weird (see knots), but reading was still a good time.
