A mind bending story. As a reader you are certainly engulfed in story. There was no such point where I looked at the book and not think of continuing the story.
Wow! That was smart! Well, of course, we're talking about the queen of mystery here but frankly, this is the very first book that I read from her. The writing is simple but it never failed to lure me in. The plot is unique and very clever. The ending is a masterpiece. I could never figure who the culprit was and the epilogue still blows my mind. The reason why I'm only giving it 4 stars is because I'm looking for more complex elements to the characters but nevertheless this is still a fun and a suspenseful classic read and I'll definitely pick up some of her books in the future.
Excellent mystery. Keeps you guessing until the very end and suitably horrific.
Great, great, great! The book is fun, quick paced and certainly deserves all the notoriety it has. Maybe some of the characters are a bit shallow, in the sense that some of their actions are not necessarily justified by the personality that they were built with...
I am so glad there was a wrap up because I had no idea how this crime was committed! SO FUN!
If you think of the ultimate “Who Done It” mystery this book would probably be high on your list!
This was my classic read for the 1st half of Nov. 18. Everyone is a suspect and the ending is great! Get this for a classic read and great mystery!! David N.
Along the way, I realised that a lot of other books have this kind of plot, it's a usual setting. But then again this was the FIRST. It's what started it all and yet I only read it now which I do not regret to have, it gave the same intensity as the other rip offs. I'm giving this one credit because it's simply due.
Yet another thrilling read with a clever and unexpected ending I've come to know, love, and expect from Agatha Christie. This was more outwardly macabre than her works I've read so far (all featuring Poirot i.e. Roger Ackroyd, Orient Express, & Affair at Styles) but still fascinating and suspenseful all the same. My brain is continuing to process how the book ended... What an imagination Christie had!
Fantástico.
Agatha Christie é a rainha do suspense.
This was a fun ride, but it didn't rock my world the way I hoped it would from all the hype. I should have probably expected that, since mysteries aren't usually enough to make me fall in love. Still, the characters were interesting and I enjoyed the suspense of not being able to trust any of them. The reveal of the killer wasn't particularly shocking to me, but I think it made sense for the book, and the explanation of their motivation felt like a fitting ending.
In love with this book! Such a fantastic read, my only regret is reading the epilogue. Kinda stole the books thunder for me. Still no regrets, Couldn't have been done better.
This is the first time I've read an Agatha Christie book and I am not disappointed. I now understand why this author is so highly talked about. First off, I found the writing of this book really easy to read. Usually when I read a mystery novel, each page is filled with details and the story tends to drag at certain points, but Agatha Christie definitely knows how to get to the point and only include information that really matters to the story line. The story is told through third person which makes it so much better because we get an insight to each person and be able to read their thoughts and feelings towards the situation.
The whole book kept me guessing from start to finish, when I was sure I knew who the murderer was, Agatha Christie proved me wrong time and time again. But my favorite part of this whole book was the fact that we as readers got to see everything, we got to follow these 10 characters from the moment they were on their way to the island up until their deaths. Then, we got to see bits of the detectives trying to figure out who could have possibly murdered 10 people, and see their theories before we get to the letter that was written by the murderer. It's in this letter that we find out who killed everyone, why and how! It was so refreshing getting to read from the murderers perspective and know the details, because normally its some half-assed monologue that only explains bits and pieces of the story. If you haven't read this book I highly recommend it.
Tout simplement l'un de mes deux romans préférés d'Agatha Christie, à égalité avec Le crime de l'Orient-Express.
Have you ever been invited to a short weekend away, only to find that you are playing for your life!? Ten people are invited to an island, some for work, and some under the guise of visiting with old friends and acquaintances. However, once they arrive, they learn that they are being charged with crimes that could not be prosecuted in the courts at home. As they begin to die one by one, the nursery rhyme that hangs in each of their rooms becomes real. Will they be able to survive the island.. or each other??
Join Agatha Christie as she spins a web so complete and evasive that you begin to wonder if you really did figure out who did it, or if it was just your imagination. No book has ever been able to captivate you this way, or keep you enthralled from page one until the very last sentence is complete. Her mysteries are of the finest caliber and should be celebrated for their genius and foresight. She is the reigning queen of mystery! Grab your copy and dive into Indian Island for your weekend stay!
Ehh.. I love the idea, but I didn't care about any of the characters and didn't have enough suspicion to blame anyone - which is a shame because this book could have the reader crazy with tension if it had.
A fun, clever story even if it does all seem quite coincidental in the end (The killer had no way of knowing if the final two murders would actually take place. And what would've happened if it was Lombard remaining? He seems unlikely to have just hung himself. For that matter, it seems silly that Vera would just go and hang herself after surviving the whole ordeal.)
The book made for a pleasant reading, but so far I have found it hard to give more then two stars for the mystery novels I've read.
The story is very short, but luckily to the point. Most of the book is devoted to develop the main plot, exposing enough of each characters past and personality in order to give them life, a somewhat plausible murderer and overall at least one reason for deserving to be a victim of one.
I did not care for the epilogue explaining the whole mystery. It was good, but a little too far fetched. I was expecting something more interesting and exceptional. I would rather have more time dedicated to creating a fearful atmosphere among the characters, giving each of them more presence since they died too quickly.
Also the story made very little room for making me guessing who the real killer was, and when it is revealed there were of course, no way to predict the culprit.
