It is Agatha Christie at her best. It is Crime-Thriller at it's best.
This is quite different from all her stories. DARKER! WAY DARKER! This lends it to the story, overall! This mystery story cleverly recounts the murders of 10 guests at an opulent mansion on a sporadic ocean island from which retreat is rendered impossible by the stormy weather which further contributes to the crepitating atmosphere. Each guest has a dark secret which makes them an inevitable victim and their mysterious host has not yet arrived, so which one is the murderer?
You'll NEVER guess it, even if you do, you'll never guess the ending! Because it's absolutely genius!
I've read a million mystery or crime stories throughout the years. I like them, but I tend to forget about them, and the plot, soon after I close the book. Sometimes the sensation of the book being good lingers on, sometimes not even that. But this one... I remember many details, especially of the last chapter, even though I read it for the last time over a decade ago.
This was the first Christie mystery I ever read, and my third reading of it. This time, though, I read it in the midst of going through all of her books chronologically. After reading twenty five or so of her other books before it, what struck me the most was how different it is from her other mystery novels. It does not follow the same formula at all. This time I remembered the ending, so I focused on how she crafts the mystery. Of course, it is nothing short of brilliant. It is a rather cruel story—more of a thriller than a mystery, really. But so much has been modeled off of it since. Once you read it (and if you haven't, stop reading reviews and just read it already) you know why it is one of the most read books of all time.
Excellent plot and execution by a master! The way she builds the tension is simply awe inspiring.
This was a re-read for me and I'm glad i re-visited it. A must read
The story revolves around ten strangers who are lured to an isolated island off the coast of Devon, England, by a mysterious host. Upon their arrival, the guests find that they are being blamed for a series of murders that they did not commit. As the body count rises, the survivors must work together to uncover the identity of the killer before it's too late.
And Then There Were None is a masterfully crafted mystery that will keep readers guessing until the very end. Christie's trademark twist ending is especially memorable, and will leave even the most savvy readers guessing. If you're looking for a classic mystery that is sure to keep you entertained, then this is the book for you.
First read this when I was in school. This is my re-read as an adult. I have a lot to say, but honestly don't feel like typing it all out. I will say that knowing the shock ending ahead of time made the cons stick out more than the pros.
It is because of this novel I became obsessed with the psychological thriller genre. Everything about this book reminds me of clue and the stereotypical large mansion of a house that looms over the horizon, beckoning the viewer into its large rooms with dark shadows, waiting to get you tangled in it's web. Christie weaves this tale with such poise and talent, you will be hanging on her every word until the book is done and you wish it had never ended. Extremely talented and intoxicating.
Again, this novel written in the 30's proves that almost every solid mystery, twist, and character in this genre has been inspired by works of Christie's. All of her classic elements are there - the dynamic setting/structure, the flavorful characters, and the fact that it's still rare if someone figures out what has happened before they're meant to. What might surprise, actually, is how well-written and how much better the storytelling still is here when compared to more modern-day attempts to tell this type of tale.
pretty slow to start for such a short novel but got me hooked towards the end - i think i would've preferred a more open-ended ending but i do enjoy that i could get something out of the book on re-reads
I must confess I have read very little by Agatha Christie. Yes, I know this is most unusual considering how much I love a good whodunnit or locked room mystery. I have no explanation for this; I just never got around to reading them.
Anyway, you can probably imagine my delight when I received this digital ARC of this special edition to read and review. Many thanks HarperCollins UK and Netgalley.
To say that I enjoyed this classic whodunnit would be an understatement. I was totally immersed in it, and with good reason. You see, the final chapter was missing. When I got to the end, I had to submit who I thought the killer was. Then, and only then, would I receive the final chapter. Brilliant, no?
I relished the idea of exercising my little grey cells. Alas, I am no Poirot, nor Miss Marple. I fear Inspector Clousseau would have made the correct deductions.
The fun was in the trying though, and if I had read this before, it wouldn't have been half as much fun.
I will definitely be adding more Agatha Christie titles to my reading list, but I'm not sure they will top this.
The special collector's edition will be available on 10/10/2024. Thanks again to HarperCollins UK and Netgalley for the digital ARC.
OH. MY. LORD... the best book ever if you say something else bye I do not accept a lower rating then 4 stars
I was a little wary of it being an older book with language, but it ended up reading pretty clearly. As this is my first mystery book, I didn't expect it to finish in little over a day. The characters were surprising and with each chapter the questions grew larger and larger. Fun fact, I was actually supposed to read this in school, but quarantine hit. If my class did get around to reading it, I definitely would've read ahead of everyone else.
Summary: Ten strangers are invited to an island under various assumptions as to the purpose of their visit. They soon find out that they were all mistaken and that they are in grave danger.

This was my first encounter with Agatha Christie’s work, and I absolutely fell in love with this story. It’s fascinating to realize that Christie pioneered the trope of an unseen adversary, methodically picking off characters one by one.
The novel is a masterclass in creating a sense of uneasy terror without resorting to graphic details. Christie skillfully builds tension, leaving the characters and the reader on edge, unsure of what will happen next.
Despite its brevity, this novel has quickly earned a spot in my top 10 favorite novels. Its impact is profound, and it’s a testament to Christie’s genius in the mystery genre.
The book was a fun read, but meeting so many characters at once is rough. Worth a read
Among Us but make it vintage.
Props por la mención del caso de Lizzie Borden, otra tragedia con rima infantil.
Well done, Dame Agatha Christie. I thoroughly enjoyed being surprised by the final reveal.
I read this in high school and decided to give it a reread. It's such a unique murder mystery. Kind of gives “Clue” vibes. Anyway I loved it not too scary or suspenseful. I actually forgot the ending and my mind was so blown!
