4.75 stars. This is the rom-com I needed in my life. It's like a big hug. That being said... It gets a bit old when one of the main characters (Aiden in this book) clearly needs therapy making him kind of a dick to everyone around him. I loved that Lucie the FMC is in a male dominated field (as I am as well) and her chilf wasn't a sniveling shit head.
Over 40 main characters?!? YES PLEASE!
Apparently, this book is only 300 pages long but it felt a lot longer and not necessarily in a bad way. I found it hard to pick up and keep reading and I think it was because I didn't really like the FMC (Leelo) until the endish of the book. I wish she would have stopped babying her daughter and stand up for herself. Riodan was decent... I think. There were a lot of side characters.
I so.... Disappointed. This book was anticlimactic and I struggled to feel the chemistry between Fionn and Rose. Also, Rose seemed to be the weak link in this book constantly messing up. Serial killer is not her Forte. I HATE that in the end Fionn starts working for Leander. It was completely unnecessary.
This was my first Catherine Cowles book and I am so delighted! I did find it a bit hard to get into but the second half of the book was excellent. Things that pissed me off... Rho (FMC) (and I find this happening in many books) refuses or fights against security measures even tho her life is in danger. Like Why? Anson (MMC) I thought was decent. Was a dick at the beginning but I felt like he became better towards the end. Side characters were great.
Spoilers ahead********
<spoiler>I found it a little bit hard to believe that the serial killer Anson was tracking for years was also the kid that killed Rho's family. Anson just happened to pick THAT town to live to after leaving the FBI and it JUST happened to be where the guy not only lives but grew up!?!? </spoiler>
I enjoyed the cinnamon roll of the MMC. I skimmed over the flashbacks because I'm never a fan and the ‘break up' was ridiculous. Not sure I am a fan of the FMC.
I loved the concept of this book but it read like a YA book. There's nothing wrong with that but I struggled through. I don't think I'll be continuing on the series.
It was a cute fluffy read. I don't know why but I struggle with people who are stuck mentally in highschool years later. I did adore Jed but didn't really care for Lola.
I didn't love it but I also didn't hate it. I found the beginning hard to get into. Took me way too long to read this. The 3rd act break-up was ridiculous... Like.. Seriously!?! I'm also not sure how I feel about the age gap.
Started off well enough but Damn!
**Possible spoilers ahead**
You're telling me in six hours they went from enemies to having sex (multiple times) and fell in love all while discovering something amazing?
The guy literally knows her for a few hours and when she mentions having drinks with her friend Erin he immediately get super possessive and feral thinking Erin is a guy... RED FLAG. Never mind that once again the woman is a virgin...ok well, not a virgin but only been with one guy who was awful and of course the guy has been with many... I wish this trope would die.
I've rated this book three stars for two main reasons: 1) I actually read the entire novel 2) I did have some big feels throughout
There was a lot in this book that I did not like.
Let's be honest Phoenix essentially had her raped. Doesn't matter how it ended but she wakes up, she's handcuffed and there's a woman going down on her without her consent.. that is rape.
Everybody this book needs intense therapy but all they do is enable each other. Noone at any point suggest that anybody in this book it therapy, that's crazy.
At one point Phoenix narrowly misses Lenin's head by throwing a bottle of alcohol. He's actually pretty destructive and super violent.
Poor george. He just seem like a sweet man who wanted to go on a couple day to the woman he liked and said he got drugged through the mud and absolutely humiliated on his birthday. And then towards the end of this book they made him the villain which seems quite out of character for him but okay.
I'm not sure there was any character development throughout this long book 😢
I felt Johnny acted older than 22 and Aurora acted a lot younger than she claimed up be.
We all want a guy like Johnny. ‘Rory' needs some therapy to process her history and new family.
Well, this book called me out. I guess I really didn't understand what codependent meant. The first 40% was very enlightening for me. I'm not a fan of religion but the author does a decent job of not judging or shoving religion down your throat.
I might be rating this a bit high. Maybe 2.75? Some things that bothered me. 1)At the beginning when she saw him naked and then just drops to her knees in front of him.. like what? It was so unnecessary. 2)Then part way through he just started calling her baby! if I took a shot every time he said the word baby I would have been so fucking hammered this book might have been a five star. Also I got a little bit bored and kind of had to push my way through. 3)At the end it says 5 years later and they're having their third baby or I guess she's pregnant with her third baby.... while they're celebrating her one year old but she already has a belly which tells me that she's at least three or four months along which is so cringy because this is so rough on your body. And it's only been 5 years and now they have four kids, guess he didn't have to work through anything considering he was a hard no to children and then was going to ease into it. I also had since second hand embarrassment going on.
I felt like something was missing. wish I had read book one in series so I could connect with the side characters a bit more. I liked that Addison knew what she wanted and didn't really waver. Grady on the other hand was wibbily wobbily. Which given his past does make sense but pull it together man! I found I was starting to get a bit irritated. The kids were great and the story was wholesome. It's probably a book I'll pick up in the future because I won't have remembered anything that happened in the story.
I dunno. Lots of cringe for sure. Why did no one take her to the police station about her not uncle? I liked Cody. He was the best thing about this book and it wasn't even about him.
I might come back and change rating. I went into this knowing it was a dark romance but I struggled to feel any romance. I would maybe use the term Stockholm syndrome instead.
I don't even know... Wtf. I don't think I can even rate this book.
Massive spoilers ahead :
This monster swamp lizard... His name is... Get this... Gil... 🤣-His tongue is smooth...-He speaks fluent English so that's a Bonus.-30 seconds after he saves the woman from a swamp puppy (gator) they pleasure each other but he's an absolute gentleman. All about consent here.-his precum is a delicate blue colour that shimmered like pearls in the moonlight-He's super emotional. After 3 weeks fucking in the swamp she told him she loved him and he cried.-Holy fuuuuck end twist. Her ex boyfriend (or want to be) showed up, beat her daddy to a pulp, stabbed swamp man Gil and now Darla Jean just shot his face off with a shotgun... And I quote ‘Dylan's pretty face was splattered all over the wall'
It was... Fine. I was expecting a short spicy beauty and the beast retelling but it didn't really have a plot and the spice didn't happen until like 2/3rds of the way through. Meh.
I liked the first 2/3rds of this book. About 70% through I was going to DNF and forced myself to finish it.
This book felt like someone had an idea and wrote that idea down... Then one day they just took their ideas, printed it off and started selling it. Maybe if this was a full length book we could have connected to the characters? We could have felt some of that chemistry between them?
I know this is technically a review on all six books in the series.. On what says is the completed 4 book series but I don't see any other options.
I really enjoyed the first 4/5 books. I hated the last book. I hated the ending. I wish I had stopped reading after book 4. I liked that ending. I was content... Did the author get bored and just wanted to quickly finish it up? Did they run out of time? WHAT HAPPENED HERE?!?!!?! gah! If/when I re read in the future I will only read the first four books in the series.
Maybe a 3? This was ok. Super cheesy. I struggled through the first half of this book but the end half was better. Lots of spice but some of it was a bit cringy.
😭 Well, I didn't end up hating Isaiah as I have in previous books but I just didn't really feel this story at all. Kennedy was fine. She should have fought her horrible boss years ago tho.
I liked book 1 better. This book felt super rushed and didn't seem to have a lot of plot progression.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is the first book I've read by A.M Wilson and I will definitely go back and read the rest of the books in the series. Jude was a grump but in the best way. The fact that he loved dogs and ran a sanctuary... Be still my heart! was a little unsure of Frankie at first but she grew on me.
