Rachel is a single mother of 4 beautiful little girls. She has escaped an abusive marriage and made a fresh start in another town. She has a job, friends and a place to call home. Rachel's life is soon turned upside down when her friend goes missing, is believed to be dead and she begins to receive threatening messages from an unknown number...promising she's next.
Frank Tench works for the BAU and happens to be teaching classes at the police station in the same town Rachel lives. They have seen each other around and are starting to move the flirtation to dating when Rachel's life is thrown into chaos. It seems the threatening text messages aren't from a stalker but a serial killer. Can Frank and his team figure out who he is before it's too late?
Man what a read! I finished this one in less than 2 days
Jessica Hart is a single mother who is given the chance to join the church choir on a tour in England. As hard as it is to leave her son behind, she knows this may be a once in a lifetime trip. Jessica loves to sing but can become paralyzed with stage fright if even a hint of the spotlight showcases her. How will she follow her dream if she cannot overcome this debilitating weakness? Will this trip help her heal the past and give her the strength to move forward?
Martin is a famous tenor whose reputation is overshadowed by scandal. Somehow he ends up as a guest with the choir and joins the tour. It seems his past isn't so easily forgotten and has followed him while on the tour. Why is his past coming back to haunt him now? When will he be free of this darkness?
This is my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. I sat down thinking ok just a few chapters and next thing I know I'm finished. The writing and the story is just that easy to get lost in. I love Jessica and can relate to her as I was a single mother myself. The fear and heartache she felt in dealing with her son's change into adolescence brought back memories and I wanted to cry along with her.
The mystery that tagged along with Martin was unexpected and I really enjoyed that part of the story as that is what kept me intrigued. I thought I had it figured out but alas I was mistaken (but I'm ok with that!). I could see this easily being a day at the beach read and wholeheartedly recommend.
I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.
We find ourselves in the small village of Dwerry where Patch and Ctain have grown up together. One day Patch (who is a notoriously good climber) falls out of the tree he's in. The reason? He saw the Sorrow Man. Ctain believes he's lying and is seeking attention. Somehow there is hate from Ctain towards Patch. Later the king's soldiers appear and demand the children of the village and since the order is refused, the village is destroyed. Now the journey begins for Patch as he is trained by the Sorrow Man to retrieve the children enslaved and kill the king.
I wanted to like this story a lot more but there is so much packed into it with very little character development. For instance, Ctain was found and taken in by Patch's family and they grew up together. You would think they would be the best of friends, brothers. For some reason we go from them hanging out together to Ctain hating Patch with no explanation as to why or how that even came about. It was literally from one page to the next, they were friends then enemies.
Then there is the relationship with Bekka. We see the beginnings of true love in the making. Then the village attack happens and he is gone for years, training with the Sorrow Man. He shows back up and finds Bekka trying to escape from soldiers, and they just jump into having sex. Hmmm...ok.
Overall I really enjoyed the premise of this story but would have liked to see more exploration into the characters. This ends on a cliff hanger which means this is headed towards a series so maybe in the next story we will see more.
I was contacted by Zion Blue and asked if I would read and review this short story. My opinions are my own and I was not given this book in exchange for my review. I read this through Kindle Unlimited.
Another cute mystery solved by the amazing duo Sarah and Amanda.
A man is found dead on a secluded trail in Snow Falls, AK. It looks like an accident but is it? Guess you'll have to read to find out.
While I loved the premise of this story, and it started out strong, I lost interest during a big portion of it. It was repetitive and a bit unrealistic. The ending had me in tears though because who wouldn't cry when a wife is reunited with their husband after a plane crash. Overall it's not a bad story, but could definitely use some editing to fix the grammatical and punctuation errors.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Tearoom for Two is the first in a new cozy mystery series - Tearoom Mysteries. In this setting we are introduced to Jan & Elaine, two cousins who decide they are going to open a tearoom in Lancaster, Maine.
While out shopping the flea market for teapots, cups & saucers they find a unique teapot and snag it for a deal. Mysteriously, after they have returned home, they receive a phone call from the owner they purchased the teapot from attempting to buy it back - at a higher price. Curious.
Later, while renovating the future tearoom, they come upon a seemingly expensive ring housed behind wall paneling. After taking the ring to a jewler find it could be of some worth. Again, curious.
This book has such charm, like a warm slice of apple pie with vanilla ice cream dripping down the sides. It's packed full of inspiration, mystery and fun.
Castleton Manor is closed for a week due to deep cleaning and refurbishing. Faith ends up temporarily transferred to Wintersea to assist in the event planning for the upcoming Gothic Studies Conference. Of course, wherever Faith goes mystery and danger seem to follow.
Wintersea has a history..of murder and suicide in the tower located on the property. Were these accidental or is there something lurking behind these events?
Wolfe has a cameo in this one as he is being blackmailed and turns to Faith for her sleuthing skills. With all this going on, is anyone safe?
Love, love, love this series. I am enjoying the budding romance between Faith and Wolfe, and adore the friendship between the members of the Candle House Book Club. I will be sad when this series is over. Thank goodness there are quite a few books left to fall in love with.
More of a 3.5
For this chaotic adventure, Angela and Alex head to Paris. Alex's band is playing in a festival and Angie gets to tag along. Not all fun of course. She also has to keep writing her blog and also write a traveler's article for a fashion magazine called Belle.
She has no idea what is what in Paris and expects to have help from Virginie (who works for Belle) and CiCi (who works for The Look). However, fashion and jealousy are dangerous in the world of Paris and of course typical Angela, anything that can go wrong....will.
While I did enjoy this one more than Hollywood, it doesn't hold a candle to New York. This had major Devil Wears Prada vibes so parts of it were funny with equal parts frustration. I honestly don't know what I would do if I had a friend like Angela... probably take out some disaster insurance policy for best friends
More a 3.5
I have mixed feelings about this one. The writing was good and I absolutely loved the Christmas spirit portrayed by Lauren but I think it just had too much going on. The beginning started out great and then the story went off on so many tangents I lost a bit of the initial love. The ending also felt extremely rushed.
There is a romance although it was very, very quick with no in-depth quality. They meet, briefly, then all of a sudden they are in love with no real development leading to it. I enjoy a good love-at-first-sight but this lacked so much in showcasing that.
I haven't read anything by this author before and this is a more recent book of hers. I'm definitely going to check out her older stuff as I did enjoy the writing and the setting.
I would also still recommend this one as it does have plenty of feel-good moments and makes for a good Christmas read. It just didn't wholly work for me.
This is a quick, quirky, and fun read. Short and full of life lessons that remind us of the things we should be doing. Unplug. Be nice to others. Together is better. Being a part of a community and helping others is not weak. Why compete when we can share knowledge?
I have never really thought about ducks as creatures to learn from. I learned a lot about them while having a cup of coffee. It turns out we can learn a lot more from ducks than I thought.
This is a great book to read during a short break or with coffee or tea in the AM. It's a great reminder that there is more to life that social acceptance and the want to have more. So be more like a duck and live life happy.
I appreciate the author bringing this book to my attention. I'm happy I bought and read it. I was not given this book in exchange for a review and any opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.
Emily & Marcus (owners of Southwind Pub), as well as many other businesses, are trying to rebuild after the crazy events of the Food Expo (see Book 1
Well that was over too fast lol. What a great, heartwarming story perfect for Christmas lists everywhere. Kate Lloyd is a newly found author for me and a new favorite. I love the way she writes and the emotions I feel while reading her charming stories.
This one happens to be part of a series but can be read standalone. I never felt lost or confused while reading this one. I wholeheartedly recommend.
As Emily & Marcus continue pushing for Southwind Restaurant to be open, awaiting only a final inspection, competitor (and nemesis)Jane has successfully opened hers...right across the street. Not only does she have an amazing cook, Riley Miller, she is also serving up amazing vegan dishes that are quickly becoming the town's favorite. So when Riley is found dead outside of Jane's Place it becomes the talk of the town.
Jacob, who is known to be smitten with Riley, is the one who finds her and of course becomes the number one suspect. As anyone in Wheaton will tell you, there is no way he killed Riley. So then who did and why? I guess that means Sarah must put on her thinking cap and figure it out before her friends gets sent down river.
Another fun, witty and charming cozy mystery. I love the way, from beginning to end, the story plays out. Great writing, characters and backdrop. Not to mention the adorable sidekicks RahRah & Fluffy who are a cat and dog that actually get along?! All love for that and this series.

Chandelle and Cherish have been friends since they met in college. They now share an apartment together and share everything...at least that's what Chandelle believes. Suddenly, Cherish begins to change and Chandelle is confused and wonders what is happening to her friend.
There are secrets Cherish has...ones that Chandelle could never imagine. Will those secrets be revealed in time? Or will it be too late for Chandelle?
The premise of this story drew me in. Who doesn't love a good drama about friends and whether we really know who they are? Cherish was a highly annoying character (written that way on purpose I'm sure). She is a spoiled rich girl who thinks her life has been hard, which is wasn't. Paired with Chandelle, who she sees as someone who thinks is better than everyone else and you've got the makings for a good drama.
I was disappointed with the flow and back stories of the characters. I think there should be more in story development and character building. There just wasn't enough there to fully grasp and understand the entire situation. One can only guess and surmise and for some that may work but for me it doesn't.
The writing was also a bit choppy and at times hard to follow as, for example, it would jump from Chandelle walking into a Chinese restaurant, grabbing a fortune cookie with a threatening note (a few sentences in length directed at Chandelle), to all of a sudden having a waiter bring her food and asking her to pay for it.
Of course one understands that she orders food while she's there opening the fortune cookie but this type of scene happens throughout the book often. So much so that a few times I had to go back and re-read as I thought I completely missed an important point (which I hadn't as it was just missing). This made it hard to read and really get into the story.
Overall this was a good story but one that could use some tweaking. I appreciate the author providing me with a copy of this book for an honest review. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.
Sarah received a surprise call from her agent Rebecca...a movie studio wants to buy the rights to turn her books into movies! She and Amanda start on a road trip to LA to meet with Rebecca and discuss details. On the way they end up in Prade, OR with a flat.
A flat that quickly turns into murder. A murder that quickly shows someone is trying to hurt Sarah. Was the book-to-movie a rise to lure Sarah to LA?
These cozies are such great and fun reads. I love Sarah and Amanda's friendship as well as the developing romance between Sarah and Conrad. The writing is so light and fluffy and always enjoyable.
Angela is that girl...the one who thinks she's in love and has a great relationship...one headed towards marriage, children and the whole shebang. That is until she finds her boyfriend in the back of her car with someone who so clearly isn't her. To top that off her best friend, whose wedding she's attending, knew. So what does Angela do? She makes her best friend cry, sends her best friend's newly-made husband to the hospital and then hops a plane to New York...from England.
So begins her journey in discovering who she really is, what she really wants and where she wants to be.
I have never been to New York but I can imagine it is just like the way it's described in this book. Fun, busy, cliche, touristy, artsy and a great place to get lost. Despite the slow spots and the endless whining from Angela (which I understand but wished wasn't so often
What a light and fun way to spend a few hours. I love that the setting is in Alaska, surrounded by snow. With this being a short book the action and mystery start fast and stay strong throughout the book.
I loved the setting for this one, remote lodge set close to a cemetery with spooky woods in between...perfect for Halloween right? Alas this was me through 90% of the book
Being an Alaskan I was intrigued by this and couldn't say no when a friend bought it for us to read together. Sadly, this was a disappointment.
The writing is choppy, repetitive and frustrating to read. For someone who proclaims to be so high achieving and educated I was surprised by how crudely put together this is...
Brad, Sarah's ex-husband, has contacted her in hopes of reconciling their marriage. Sarah has moved on since the divorce that brought her to a new life in Snow Falls, AK. When Brad shows up it seems his reconcilation hopes were a ruse and instead brings with him a serial killer from Sarah's past...one who, of course, wants her dead.
The town of Snow Falls is now held captive by this serial killer and by the game he forcing Sarah to play. Can she solve the clues in time and save the people she has come to love and set the town free?
This is by far my favorite book of the series. Amanda never ceases to amaze me. The love she has for her friends is a fierce one and she kicks butt when needed most.
There was so much action going on in this one. Bad storm that has the town snowed in. Serial killer that is holding the town hostage. Games Sarah must play in order to save the ones she loves. Crazy climax as she faces off the serial killer and fights him at his own deadly game. Whew! What a fun read.
Amanda has dreams of buying a hot springs resort and has talked Sarah into taking a trip there to look it over and possibly sign ownership paperwork. Once they arrive however, things are not quiet and gloom sets in.
Coming upon a dead body, the owner of the resort, Sarah and Amanda are left with questions. Who would want this man dead? Where is his wife?
After looking around, it seems there is more to meets the eye in who this owner really was. Can they solve the murder and figure out what is going on?
Of course the premise (once you get there in the story) is a bit far fetched but that's kind of the fun with some of these. As always, I love the friendship between Sarah and Amanda, and the way they have each other's back. Another fun-filled cozy read.
Jimmy's Great Aunt has passed away and while he and his brother are clearing out her storage unit, they are offered a unique trade by Max Kellerman. One unit for another, contents unseen. They jump at the chance and upon opening the unit they traded for, they find an old fortune telling machine called Rozelda. Even better, it works as Max tests by inserting a dime in return for his fortune.
Jimmy is excited as he believes this will be a great addition to the bar he wants to open. So he takes Rozelda home. The next day his brother calls and informs him of Max's death...not 24hrs after he pulled his fortune from Rozelda. There is a counter that Jimmy swears was at 997 when he brought Rozelda home. It has now changed, on its own, to 998. Coincidence?
This is a quick read, reminiscent of The Creep Show (which I absolutely loved growing up). Great characters, easy flow, and creepy vibes makes this a great addition to any Spooktober list.

Humanity was once a thriving population until a terrible threat almost ended them. Remaining survivors made their way high up into the mountains, where the Threat Below (as they became known) could not go.
Three hundred years later, humanity is surviving, broken into groups with their lives and jobs set out for them. Rigid rules are followed in order to keep the population thriving, as well as manageable.
It is soon discovered that the only supply of water for the entire Mountaintop has become poisoned. A decision is made and, despite no one setting foot outside The Wall in 300 years, a small regiment is sent Down Below to see what is causing the water poisoning and fix it.
Meanwhile, behind the regiment, follws Icelyn Brathius (next in line to rule the Mountaintop). She wants to be a part of the expedition and see what is Down Below. Little does she know that the secrets she uncovers will change everything.
For fans of YA Dystopian type reads, this is definitely for you. Great characters, world building and setting. It was easy to really picture the places and creatures described. I loved the way human life, before the Threat Below, is explained. It's very creative!
Icelyn is a young yet strong female lead. She did irritate me a tad but that's to be expected as she changes, adapts and grows. Adoradne is what I expected, a hard-headed, yet intelligent, boy who wants to test the limits placed and break the rules. It's great lol. The comraderie between Icelyn and Adoradne is light, sarcastic and well... enjoyable. We all have that friend who can bring out the best..and the worst but is always steadfast in their friendship. Overall a really unique, and fun read.

3.5 Rounded to a 3
Angela has made her peace with life in New York and is making a real go at happiness with Alex. She is given the chance of a lifetime...an interview with hot and trendy actor James Jacobs. The only nagging question...why her? She is so not qualified. Oh well...Hollywood here she comes and all the fun loving trouble that seems to follow her.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as New York. The comedy and craziness are still there (which I love) but the scenarios and characters didn't cut it for me. Jenny especially irritated me this go-round. BUT then it's Hollywood so it was to be expected
Charlotte & John shared something special when they were young, despite the separate tragedies that bring them together. When they are ripped away from each other there is a hollow neither one felt could be filled.
Years later, fate has brought them together again. John is a shell of what Charlotte remembers. Can she help him heal and find his way back? Will they be able to keep their promise to each other this time?
This is a very cute and sweet read. While simplistic in its writing style, the story touches and warms the heart. A very unique addition to this story is the playlist of songs. In the story John is a song writer and musician. He is finding his way back by playing and singing again. So while you're reading the lyrics there are links to follow so that you can listen to the song as you read. I haven't come across anything like this before and it was enjoyable.
