I've enjoyed this series so far and was excited to snag A Violent Heart. Police procedurals are one of my favorite genres. Whenever I pick up a book by this author I am captivated and finish the story quickly.
I love Archer and Quinn. They make a great detective duo and keep the story flowing well. Definitely a good one for those who enjoy mysteries, serial killers and police procedurals.
Eh. This wasn't really for me. I didn't like the main character, at all. She just reinforced the reason why many people, including me, have a hard time respecting or even liking reporters. Jolene was tolerable at best.
The story itself was just ok. I skimmed a lot because there was so much about journalism and political undertones that it took away from enjoying the book as a whole.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
As a seasoned horror reader, The House of Last Resort sounded great. I love the setting, the main characters and the storyline. Overall, however, it didn't completely do it for me.
Is it creepy? A little. Is it dark and sinister? Teeny bit. Did I want more? Yes.
It starts off great. New home in a new, but old, country. A town desperately trying to breathe new life back into it. The home purchased has... vibes and things happen. Eventually the history of the home comes to light. Kate and Tommy are now wary of noises and incidents they passed off. Time passes, more things happen and we get to another, even darker secret, a twist I didn't see coming, and...the end.
For someone who hasn't read much horror I think this would be a good one. It would be a good read for Spooktober as the atmosphere is perfect for Fall reading.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
For such a short book this took a very long time to get through. While the food descriptions were great, the book itself was hard for me to get into. This was a very interesting idea for a cozy mystery series, but I felt having the same scenario, just with different people, thrown into one book made it hard to enjoy.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
When I first read the premise for this one, I was very excited. I love anything to do with time, and the idea of a time loop was interesting. I really tried to get into this one, but it ended up falling flat for me.
The beginning was great, and was flowing together nicely. As the chapters wore on, however, it quickly started to lose its appeal. I found myself skimming just to get through the pages and found that I didn't miss anything important when I did. That in itself says a lot.
The main character was overly dramatic and annoying. That was the main reason it was hard for me to get into this book. I am sure this is just a me thing, and I encourage others who think they would enjoy this book to grab it and give it a read.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
Who doesn't love an amusement park? Even if you don't want to ride the rides there is plenty of food to eat and games to play. Plus it does set a nice, creepy background for a thriller.
While parts of Wonderland was predictable, I enjoyed it overall. I would say this is a good one for the Spooktober season. It's especially good for those readers that like scary and creepy but don't want gore or overly terrifying.
I love the Little Mermaid and was looking forward to reading a reimagining of it from the darker side's perspective. While I did enjoy Venesa and Enzo I could not stand Aria. I get that is supposed to be the point but her character was overwhelming and not in a bad but good way...it was just bad.
Otherwise this wasn't a bad read overall, just not completely enjoyable.
Chasing Eternity has been high on my list to read for a while. I absolutely LOVED the first two books but put this off because I was worried about closure. There was so much happening in the first two books I didn't want to be let down.
While I enjoyed reading this one it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. This felt rushed and hastily put together to just get the series done. I honestly felt like there should have been another book to better detail Natasha's journey. She is such an amazing character and to have her come into her destiny the way she did, at such an accelerated pace, was off-putting.
The ending isn't really an ending BUT with time travel and the infinite ways things can happen I get it, and I was ok with that part. Did I wish for better closure, yes. Was I hoping for more backstory with Arthur? Yes. Did I want more struggle before the expected perseverance? Absolutely. However, as readers, we don't always get what we want.
Overall, not a bad read but definitely didn't follow in the footsteps of the previous two. There are quite a few who enjoyed the conclusion more than I, so I would still recommend this one for those who love time travel and history.
I sincerely appreciate Entangled Teen for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
Whelp .. that was a fun read. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this one but it quickly became a whirlwind of a ride. I enjoy multiple POVs and short chapters and this has both. The story was interesting and had me flying through the pages. The ending?! Definitely wasn't expecting that!
Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the review copy.
I am really enjoying these dark retellings. Who would have thought happy endings for villains would be so fun to read.
I'm always a sucker for a mean girls type of read. I was excited when I was able to receive an ARC of The Fortune Seller. I wanted to love this one more, but overall it was just OK.
I haven't read a book that reads like a drama/mystery, that has background and side information overtaking the actual story. It got to the point I was just skimming every introduction at the start of the chapters because all the blurbs about the tarot cards were boring after a while. You also read about tarot cards within the story itself. It felt oversaturated to me.
I also felt at times there was too much explaining and focusing on all things horse-related. If you pulled all that out, the story itself would be very short. The story itself was ok, but I didn't like some of the ending and outcome.
Even though I wasn't a huge fan overall, those that enjoy tarot cards, readings and all things to do with horses may enjoy this. Just my perspective so if you have this on your list to read, pick it up and see how you land with it.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
This was an interesting read. I really enjoy Sci-Fi and time travel and have not read a story quite like this one. If I was faced with the same dilemma as Maria, I am not sure what I would do. Whew ..
I was a little worried about how the author would close this one out but I worried for nothing. The ending is fantastic.
This is perfect for readers who enjoy time travel mixed with women's fiction. Inkook forward to reading more of this author's work.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
I just can't get over how much fun these are! I really enjoy the logic puzzles and the fun descriptions of the people, murder weapons, and other items for solving the puzzles.
The story itself is enjoyable too and reading it piece-meal while also trying to solve other mysteries within the story before Logico is fun too.
This is perfect for puzzle fans and lovers of mysteries. I sincerely appreciate St. Martin's Press for the review copy.
A Study in Black Brew is a fun, cozy Sci-Fi mystery that resides in the same realm as the Colibri Investigation series. In book 3 of that series (The Wenamak Web) we are introduced to the two main characters in this story. I love a good spin-off and thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.
I love this author's writing. The characters are fun and have great banter. I also like that the mystery is interesting and keeps you reading. As a retelling, the Sherlock Holmes vibes are on point. Definitely one to put on those bookish radars and grab when it releases on May 22, 2025.
I sincerely appreciate the author for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
Dead Woman Walking is the first in the Izzy Santos Mysteries. We are introduced to Officer Santos as she responds to a minor call. She is then assigned to assist Detective Fulton as he is home sick. Things quickly escalate from a missing person, to a disappearance, to something else entirely.
I really enjoyed following Izzy as she navigates being thrown into an acting detective's role. She is thorough, and asks a lot of questions, even some that are a bit out there. I have always enjoyed police procedurals and Izzy kept things interesting. The only thing that bugged me was that sometimes her comments felt a little young for the situation or wasn't what I would expect a cop to say.
The mystery, and the twist at the end, was great. Tia Maggie is a very fun addition to the story and easily my favorite character. I like the aspect she brings to the story and how it all ties together. I'm hoping to see more of her in the other installments.
Overall, a good read and one I recommend. This has cozy mystery vibes as well so perfect for fans of that genre. I sincerely appreciate the author for the review copy. These opinions are strictly my own.
Ladykiller is not a genre I read often. When I do indulge it's often fun. If you have this one on your TBR, go in blind. I think it would be a lot more interesting if you do. I often go into my books without reading the synopsis and I feel like if I had read this one I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much.
There is a lot that is going on in this story. Between all the drama, the backstabbing, and the unreliable narratives you have a lifelong friendship and a little romance. Grab some snacks and enjoy.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
Ok...this was FUN! I enjoy puzzles. I enjoy reading. I also enjoy mysteries. Put all of them together and it's pure nerdy blissfulness.
I received Murdle, Vol. 1 for my birthday. Once I started, it was hard to put down. I kept wanting to solve the puzzles to get to the next part of the story. The story is entertaining and I LOVED the descriptions of the people, places, weapons, and motives. The humour is on point, at least for me.
Highly recommend this one for those who want reading with a twist. I honestly didn't think I would like this as much as I did. I already have Vol. 2 ready and waiting.
I adored Lenny Marks. This is such a charming read. It starts a little slow, but grows on you. Lenny is a very unique character, full of quirks and habits that make you love her. Her situation, the things she went through, both as a child and adult, is what tethered me to the story and kept me there. Definitely one to put on those bookish radars.
I didn't realize until after I finished this, that this is a debut. I look forward to what else this author writes.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
Well I found my first 2025 favorite. Serenade of Kings is just what this bookish heart needed. I LOVE me a good backstory and man did this deliver. In Prelude of Fire (Book 1 in this series), I fell in love with the characters, their journey and their growth. We got a glimpse of Ragnar and his relationship with Gailea.
With Serenade of Kings, we get to see a much better, clearer picture of that relationship and how things progressed to the evil tyranny we see in Book 1. The last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat and one particular scene had me stunned.
I thoroughly enjoy this author's writing. I love that it's character driven, full of emotion and depth. You can feel the tension and turmoil, not to mention the heartbreak. The action scenes are pretty great too. This is a must read for fans of YA Fantasy. I can't wait for the next book!
I sincerely appreciate the author for this review copy. These opinions are my own.
Time travel. Family secrets. Murder and mystery. If these phrases appeal to you as they do me, you will love Murder on the Steel Pier.
Imagine going to bed in one time, and waking up in another. Not only that, but waking up as a family member long since passed. Pair that with a murder that could possibly change your family and affect its history and bam folks ... we have a cozy mystery winner.
This was a fun read the entire time. Easy five stars. Tess is a great MC and I adore everything about her, especially her resourcefulness. The story was fun as well and made it hard to put this down. Ah responsibilities why do you plague my want to just read all day.
If you love mysteries in general, but are a cozy mystery fan at heart, definitely grab this one. I sincerely appreciate the author for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed Thistlefoot, so when I was given the chance to read this one, I jumped. Sadly, for me, this one just didn't gel.
There were a couple of stories that I enjoyed, with my favorite being the Eternal Staircase. With most though, they just sort of fell off and stopped. I was left more often than not, wondering what happened, than understanding what the author was trying to get across.
Maybe it was meant to be that way? I know other readers enjoyed this book, it just wasn't for me. I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
Holy cow was this good! The Unlucky Ones has fast-paced chapters, twists and turns, suspense and even a little romance thrown in. Black Harbor is a dark, tense and frightful place to live. This book makes you feel that to the core.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. Definitely go grab this one if you love police procedurals and crime thrillers.
Whew!!! What a wild ride this was! I have not read anything like this before and wasn't sure what to expect when I read the synopsis. It's still hard to wrap my head around everything and everyone within this story.
The author does a fantastic job writing about DID without over complicating it for the reader. That was my biggest fear, that it would be too chaotic and too disorganized in a messy way BUT it's chaotic and disorganized in exactly the right way. You have to read to understand what I mean. It's hard to explain.
The story itself is good too and I was flying through the pages. Highly recommend this one! I sincerely appreciate William Morrow and Harper Collins for the review copy.
Whew!! Whenever I see another installment in this series, I know I need to get ready for a whirlwind of a ride. When it comes to Eddie Flynn nothing is easy or normal and I am here for it.
The imagination of this writer just has me floored! The twists and turns and all the chaos in between had my head spinning. I eagerly await the next installment as I know it will be a read I can't put down.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
I really enjoyed Omen of Ice and was thrilled to receive Nature of Frost early so I could finish out this duology. It does not disappoint. I finished this in one day while on a flight to visit some friends. Perfect way to pass the day.
The story finished with great closure, which is a big deal for me with any series, even if there are only two books. There was so much going on in Omen of Ice, I was a little worried I would be left wanting.
Tania and Valen work so well together and their story came through strong. I love them. Add in all the other characters, that add to it all, and it was even better. Perfect one for fans of YA Fantasy.
This one releases soon, January 13, so put this one on your radar. I sincerely appreciate Entangled Teen for the review copy.
