The Mindful Betrayal

The Mindful Betrayal

Chandelle and Cherish have been friends since they met in college. They now share an apartment together and share everything...at least that's what Chandelle believes. Suddenly, Cherish begins to change and Chandelle is confused and wonders what is happening to her friend.

There are secrets Cherish has...ones that Chandelle could never imagine. Will those secrets be revealed in time? Or will it be too late for Chandelle?

The premise of this story drew me in. Who doesn't love a good drama about friends and whether we really know who they are? Cherish was a highly annoying character (written that way on purpose I'm sure). She is a spoiled rich girl who thinks her life has been hard, which is wasn't. Paired with Chandelle, who she sees as someone who thinks is better than everyone else and you've got the makings for a good drama.

I was disappointed with the flow and back stories of the characters. I think there should be more in story development and character building. There just wasn't enough there to fully grasp and understand the entire situation. One can only guess and surmise and for some that may work but for me it doesn't.

The writing was also a bit choppy and at times hard to follow as, for example, it would jump from Chandelle walking into a Chinese restaurant, grabbing a fortune cookie with a threatening note (a few sentences in length directed at Chandelle), to all of a sudden having a waiter bring her food and asking her to pay for it.

Of course one understands that she orders food while she's there opening the fortune cookie but this type of scene happens throughout the book often. So much so that a few times I had to go back and re-read as I thought I completely missed an important point (which I hadn't as it was just missing). This made it hard to read and really get into the story.

Overall this was a good story but one that could use some tweaking. I appreciate the author providing me with a copy of this book for an honest review. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.
