Death Fortune

Jimmy's Great Aunt has passed away and while he and his brother are clearing out her storage unit, they are offered a unique trade by Max Kellerman. One unit for another, contents unseen. They jump at the chance and upon opening the unit they traded for, they find an old fortune telling machine called Rozelda. Even better, it works as Max tests by inserting a dime in return for his fortune.

Jimmy is excited as he believes this will be a great addition to the bar he wants to open. So he takes Rozelda home. The next day his brother calls and informs him of Max's death...not 24hrs after he pulled his fortune from Rozelda. There is a counter that Jimmy swears was at 997 when he brought Rozelda home. It has now changed, on its own, to 998. Coincidence?

This is a quick read, reminiscent of The Creep Show (which I absolutely loved growing up). Great characters, easy flow, and creepy vibes makes this a great addition to any Spooktober list.
