Les défauts que je trouvais au précédent ont disparu ce qui le rend plus agréable à lire.

This book is a continuation of the second and brings many new elements to the plot.

The flaws I found in the previous one have disappeared which makes it more enjoyable to read.

It announces a sequel that promises to be very gripping.

I appreciate the author's ability to avoid falling into common cliches. There isn't always a looming doom awaiting to happen. The protagonists aren't always in peril. The antagonists don't have a fool proof master plan to take over the world.

The characters are just people, and beings learning how to be people. It is light on psychological depth, but there is enough character development to create some empathy and word development to create attachment.

The series theme reads like “humankind vs nature”. And nature always wins. I love the consistency the author maintains, avoiding the trapping of sensationalist plots.

I wish there were more logical debates, but at least the few that happened seemed sound and valid to me.

Plot advancements
- the liberated Cassandra Sangue were taken care fo by the Intuits and the Others- the HFL grand scheme was discovered and it seems the movement is about to loose some steam- the Courtyard started housing a pack of humans- the Others nearly decided for extermination of humankind for their breach of trust

I devoured this book as well. I still like the world. I like the Others and Intuits and humans working together. I also like that it showed humans lying and using other humans. It is what we do, I'm ashamed to say.

Another great book! This one has even less action than previous books, so I feel like it is easier to take a break here– if only because this is my 2nd read-through and the slight cliffhanger doesn't bother me when I know what will happen.
Love the slow burn romance and how we get to know and love all the characters.

Estuvo muy pasivo.

So that was definitely a curveball ending. I still stand by the things I said in my mid-read updates (below). But I've also come to realize that this is the longest book that I've read in a while, I mean that metaphorically and in a good way. It's the first book in a long time that has made me stop and analyze character interactions and plot twists at more than face value. It's something that I miss from my “book blog” days. It's also the first book in a while that I've spent more than 2-3 days reading. I've been devouring the books I read recently and I'm glad I took my time with this one. It made me appreciate it a lot more.

08/05 page 32 8.0% “So I love the fact that Simon is more concerned/worried about Meg and what she did “without his supervision/approval” than he is about the political shenanigans going on and the fact that he needs to be a wolf and run. But I have a bad feeling that it's going to bite him in the butt. Sigh”
08/06 page 91 22.0% “Did they seriously forget to tell the Elementals about what's going on? That seems a little too far-fetched. C'mon, the most powerful terra indigene?”

I noticed they were lacking, and thought that it might have been overlooked and that they should have been included. However, if they had been, their thoughts and opinions would have clouded mine because I wouldn't shape my thoughts and opinions about the book myself but shape them around what another fellow human female thought.”
08/09 page 245 61.0% “I'm definitely taking this one slow for multiple reasons. One, the switching POVs makes the narrative easy to take a break from, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Two, the writing delves into the minute details and it gets a bit boring to read about every little thing. Three, where I am currently, the characters are hashing out an important issue for Meg, but just sounds patronizing to me.”

While the author's writing is very detailed and leaves no stone unturned, it does leave a lot to be desired in terms of pacing. I've noticed that exclusively in this installment the smallest details are part of the narrative and make for a very tedious read. And the level of importance that the author assigns to some characters but not to others has me invested in some of their story lines and annoyed by others. She tends to sidetrack the main plot into all the minute issues that Simon must deal with as leader of the Lakeside Courtyard. I normally enjoy these parts of the books because I love to learn how the world-building and government work but it seems like too many little subplots are going on at the same time the main plot is unraveling. For example, the book talks about Nicholas Scratch and the HFL movement and its diabolic plans, as well as the blood prophets and how the Others are dealing with them, and then there's Meg's growth to consider. It seems like the parallel of the other blood prophet's exposure to the outside and Meg's growth don't coherently fit into the same book and timeline. The issues that Meg goes through in the first half of the novel seem like they would have fit more believably in the previous two books. She's been at the Courtyard for months, and seemed to have settled comfortably in even as she's still learning her way around. Why is she only now beginning to become “overwhelmed”?

Gran parte del libro iba por el 2.5 de nota. Le pongo más porque ya me encariñe con algún personaje o porque soy buena gente. Me aburrió un poco, se la pasan dándole vueltas a lo mismo y a lo mismo.

Y no sé porque creía que Meg y Simon eran protagonistas, en este libro son más secundarios que los secundarios. Casi no aparecen, sobre todo Meg, solo se corta para soltar alguna profecía, y eso es todo. Realmente me frustraba pasar a otro capítulo y que siguieran otros personajes, dándole vueltas a lo mismo, y Meg y Simon ni sus luces.

Le daré oportunidad, espero que la historia avance en el próximo.

I was disappointed with the pace of this book. It slowed to a crawl, the story is still interesting, but I feel like the friendship between Meg and Simon moved backwards. I also feel like the premise of this book came up out of nowhere. Shouldn't it have been an issue in the first 2 books? I'm trying not to put any spoilers in here, so yeah, it is a little vague.

Things are getting crazy everywhere because of the HFL. A little girl travels alone on a train and has to be protected by a wolf. The cassandra sangue rescued from the compounds are having trouble adjusting. Can Meg, deemed The Trailblazer figure out how to help them? One of the girls has started drawing again, and the drawings resemble prophecy. Maybe they can find other ways than cutting to get their visions out there. An attack by the HFL leaves some dead and many injured. Can Simon and the others convince the wild ones not to wipe out all of the humans? Or is it too late? Soooo much going on in this book!! I love this series!!
