Hikarujen

I REALLY REALLY wanted to like this book. So much so that even after the first 30%, when I knew I was more than a little bored with the story, I kept going. The opening of the White Wolf was so promising, but I was quickly lost. It took me at least twice as long to read 50 pages in this book as normal, I would just stare at the same sentence over and over. Then I would be confused by this sentence. While there are some beautifully written passages, the story line wasn't engaging enough for me.

I really liked this one! I have said it before, I LOVE when the couple starts out as childhood friends, and something happens to drive a wedge between them, and as adults they feel like they are no longer friends. Even enemies. Well, in this one, the hero, Michael, loses his lands in a card game when he is young, and becomes impoverished. He then disappears from society. Penelope, continues to think of her friend, she writes him letters that she eventually stops sending.

So now she has been on the marriage mart for 8 years, I believe it was, and her father acquired the lands that Michael, or Bourne as he is called at this point, had lost and has put it in Penelope's dowry. Bourne hears of this and what does he do? Of course! He kidnaps her, and spends the night with her, he doesnt plan to do anything with her, because he only wants the land. This was my favorite scene in the whole book, Penelope complaining about her kidnapping not being exciting enough, Bourne grabs her wrist and looks her in the eye and says “play your card Penelope.” It was cheesy but I loved it.

Anyways, I liked this book, the rest of the book is the two of them figuring out their marriage, and figuring out how to get Penelope's sisters married. The next book sounded cute too.

This just wasn't doing it for me. 50 pages in and I dislike the main character, her boyfriend, and her best friend. I wanted to know more about the mermaids, but not enough to keep reading.

I like this book, but then, I spent a LOT of time fuming about the double standard Kyler has for himself and his best friend Sydney. He is allowed to treat his penis like a “bus terminal” (Yes, they say this in the book, I am not that creative) however when a guy even look at Sydney he is there to essentially cock block. OKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

The best way I can describe this book is like a bowl of brownie batter. One taste, and no problems, you eat the whole bowl, and you feel sick.

I know HR's get cheesy... but man, when Jasper was trying to talk dirty to Melisandre it was do awkward. I just kept giggling. I mean... who says pretty cunny? lol. Other than that, I enjoyed the story, there was some fun back and forth between them.
