LOVE the book!!!! it satisfied all of my expectations and romance... OMG so intriguing
What just happened in those last 20 chapters?!
Can we talk about how Avery's security team is such a failure? A bomb in a plane that's been planted before in the engine and the team never found it?
One moment she's bedridden, the next moment she's opening her room to a potential lover and not fearing for her life?
Oh and hey Grayson your dad just died, let's go play with swords.
For someone who is supposedly so smart, Avery can be pretty dumb about her decisions. The angst was pretty unnecessary to the story.
I don't even know if I want to continue on after this convoluted sequel.

I really liked some of the revelations in this book. Some of them like the relationship between Avery and other characters like Xander, Rebecca and Thea.
Some answers had come with this book like Avery's mother and Harry had killed her sister.
But something bored me like Harry and Tobias being able to make an anagram just as simple as that just listen the Avery full name at once. Or like how the security guard was not able to check that bomb at the plane.
But this book seems to be more complet that the first one. The last one had many questions to be answered but that we have just a few one like what is that coin that Jackson had left to Harry and is this new character Eve will be in next book and what is gonna happen to Ricky and Skye at the prison.
By the way I just loved that end with Avery and Jamie with coin in the roof.
WHENS IT MY TURN TO BE A HAWTHORNE
For a book where I'm not the targeted reader it was very well written and entertaining. This and the first are such a good escape. Its just a comforting interesting read. A break from law and serious books that i would normally read for class. Avery genuinely has got no chill. I actually thought she would take it easy with Gray and Jameson…guess not. Im scared to even get the third book because how can there be more!
Either way great book…took that knives out story into a great mystery hunt.
The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was a more engaging read compared to the first book, The Inheritance Games. This time, the mystery and twists kept me more intrigued, and there were plenty of surprises. Some of these twists were genuinely good, while others felt unnecessary and out of place, as if the author was just cramming in as many as possible without proper buildup.
The characters, unfortunately, remained a weak point. They still felt flat and lacked depth, making it hard to connect with any of them. While the romance improved slightly compared to the first book, it was still far from memorable or exciting.
One of my biggest gripes was with the puzzles. They were repetitive and far too similar to those in the first book. It felt like the author didn’t even try to add anything new or creative to this aspect of the story. Considering the puzzles are supposed to be a big selling point of the series, this was a letdown.
That said, the book was incredibly easy and fast to read. After I got halfway through, it became difficult to put down despite its flaws. The pacing was solid, and the story did a good job of keeping me curious enough to finish it. The ending was satisfying, though nothing extraordinary.
Overall, The Hawthorne Legacy was an improvement over the first book in terms of intrigue and twists, but it still had the same issues with underdeveloped characters and lackluster puzzles. I’d rate it 3 out of 5 stars. It’s a fun, light read if you don’t set your expectations too high.

Honestly, it was a decent & fast paced read. Nothing stood out to me per se, but I did like the plot revelations and the flowy writing.I don't see the point of book 3 atp.., like more puzzles? Another trail? For what? The first book was pretty enjoyable but it kept getting unnecessarily convoluted from there. New characters? Eve? And she looks like Emily? Like... why the drama T_T.
Coming to characters and relationship dynamics; some likable characters like Oren, Libby, Nash, Zara etc had very little page time and weren't in the forefront at all. While Avery's pov started to get a little bleh. She's all “Oh. Grayson! Oh , Jameson! oh I'm so confused.” It's annoying. The romantic development felt weirdly off to me; as if it took an accident for Jameson to suddenly fall in love with her. The author also used the same incident to portray Grayson in bad light.
I just had a little bit of whiplash with how quickly, it all happened.
Overall, not bad but definitely not as good as book 1. I'd say pick it up, only if you were super invested in the characters while reading book 1.
I'm torn about “The Hawthorne Legacy”. On one hand, I adored the Hawthorne brothers - Jameson, Xander, and Grayson - and loved seeing more of their complexities and dynamics. Xander, in particular, stole the show for me!
On the other hand, I struggled with the protagonist, Avery. Her self-obsession and constant need for validation made it hard for me to connect with her. I found myself rolling my eyes more often than not.
Unfortunately, the supporting characters didn't get as much attention or development as they did in the first book, which was disappointing. It felt like they were relegated to the background, and I missed seeing more of their stories and growth.
Overall, it was an okay read, but my love for the Hawthorne brothers kept me invested. I hope the next book gives the supporting cast more love and balances out the character development.
The first book had me hooked. This one too, but it made me want to put it down at least thrice. (And this is after finishing this book in under 24 hours.)
I feel like while this book helped magnify the plot and add more twists and turns to the story, there were a couple of rather unnecessary additions.
The constant internal dilemma in Avery's head of Grayson vs. Jameson was super random. Neither of those two characters seemed particularly appealing to me as a romantic interest. And besides, based on the crux of the story, any kind of romantic interest for Avery seemed entirely irrelevant and again, unnecessary. It did not, in my opinion, add to the plot and instead, took away from the story and made it feel more dragged on.
I'm still giving this book a 4 because of everything else. The story building up (aside from the possible romance) made me want to know more and continue to stay in this world of Avery Kylie Grambs and the Hawthornes. I have high hopes of the next book.

After being thoroughly impressed by “The Inheritance Games,” I approached its sequel, “The Hawthorne Legacy,” with high hopes. While still an enjoyable read, this installment didn't quite hit the same high marks as its predecessor, earning it a solid three-star rating from me.
“The Hawthorne Legacy” revisits many of the elements that made the first book compelling—mysterious puzzles, high stakes, and complex relationships. However, this time around, the puzzles seemed less fresh, feeling somewhat rehashed from the first book. While the original puzzles were a delightful brain teaser, their repetition in this sequel lacked the novelty and intrigue that initially captured my attention.
The romantic elements also felt more scattered compared to the focused narrative of the first book. The love interests and their dynamics were all over the place, making it harder to root for any particular pairing. This scattered approach detracted from the central mystery, which itself unfolded at a slower pace with less urgency.
As for plot progression, the revelations in “The Hawthorne Legacy” didn't feel as impactful. Much of the information disclosed felt like it could have been condensed significantly, without the need to navigate through similar puzzles. This pacing issue made the storyline seem stretched thinner than necessary.
Despite these criticisms, the book maintains the engaging writing style of Jennifer Lynn Barnes and the charming allure of its characters, especially Avery Grambs. Her development continues to be a strong aspect of the series, keeping the door open for further exploration in future installments.
While I'm not as eager to dive into the third book as I was with the second, I'm still considering continuing with the series. Fans of “The Inheritance Games” might find elements to enjoy in “The Hawthorne Legacy,” but they may want to temper their expectations for a repeat of the first book's brilliance.
The Inheritance Games was a 5 star book and somehow this was even better. Now deep into the mystery, knowing all the characters, it really got good. So many questions answered, so many unexpected twists and turns. I didn't expect so many of them and so many I never guessed at because so much was happening. I also adore every single character so much. This is truly an amazing series & I can already tell it's cemented itself as a favorite. I devoured this book & I can not wait to hear more about these characters and what mystery is next.
The Inheritance Games series has become one of my favorites. I'm looking forward to reading The Final Gambit!

I finished reading the Hawthorne legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and honestly??? I don't get the hate. Like yeah the book was not a 5* read and didn't blow me away, but I enjoyed reading it :D the secrets made sense (I guess lmao) and I felt like I got to see a tiny bit relationship progression between the main characters (khm khm the love triangle).
But a solid 3.5 stars for me. Would have been a 4 but it took me a while to finish it because I just wasn't invested enough oops
this was SO GOOD and I liked it more than the first one it shocked me of how much I loved this book and the twists SHOCKED me so hard. I loved every second of this book and I am so happy to read the third. The first one's start was slow but this one was action packed and amazing and I have no flaws or anything about it and it was one of the most enjoyable reading experiences ive had in a while
Anything fascinating happened on the last 10% of the book, the build was okay, but I was disappointed on the end results.
Just when I thought I figured it out I turned the page. As with the first book in this series I had fun.

It has just enough mystery that you're constantly guessing and trying to figure it out and then the story develops another layer and you're thrown through a loop. It's been an adventure and I highly recommend it. I wish there was just a little bit more to Avery's love story(s), but the retelling of her parent's love was adorable. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.
