En este no lo dudo tanto son 4 estrellas pero dio mio, al inicio quise que estuviera con Grayson, no con Jameson.
Creo que al final del libro tomo la mejor decisión.
This continues exactly where the first book ended so there is more investigating, more riddles and question marks to be solved. But for the overall explanation about the legacy we have to wait for the last book.
4.5/5⭐️
I really liked this book! There was a point I the story that I wasn't really intrigued to read any further. But after I got over that point I really loved it! I think it wasn't as good as the first one. That's why it gets 4.5 stars. I want to read the third and final one very very soon!!
Okay feeling like this was a lot of setup for the third book. Not much reeeeallly happened in this one, tbh. Still loved it and am curious what book 3 will bring. I want Avery to be with JAMESON. Love love loved this one as well, just not as many fun puzzles and mystery in this one.
Having felt somewhat let down by the ending of the first book after so much build-up, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself liking this book even more. Some questions are answered from The Inheritance Games, and some questions are asked presumably ready to be answered in The Final Gambit.
Picking up right after the events of the first book, we follow Avery and the Hawthorne boys as a new game begins. This time their quest is more of a cross between friendly competition and working as a team now that Avery has been accepted by the Hawthorne boys as one of their own. She stands to lose the most (though not necessarily financially). Having uncovered some family secrets, she's determined to find connections and answers. Who is her father? Is she really of Hawthorne blood? What had her mother kept from her for her entire life?
Part of what I've been enjoying about this series is the absurdity of it all. I'm not the target age group so I have little patience for the high school drama that inevitably comes in a YA such as this, but something about the eccentricity of the Hawthorne family is intriguing. It's grandiose and impractical but dang it, it's fun.
This book definitely reads as a lengthy bridge into the next book (though doesn't end on as much of a cliffhanger as the previous), however, I enjoyed the intricacies of the family. I'm not quite sure what to expect going forward but I'm excited to find out!
For once I liked the second book in a series better. Also really glad that the ending didn't have an insane cliff hanger but still kept me intrigued enough to want to pick up the third book
I really enjoy the first book and was looking forward to this one. It was an enjoyable read, I didn't really pay off. Lots of puzzles games, but not much in the way of delivery. Still, I will read the last one.
4 and a half stars
doesn't beat the first one but god it was just as good! maybe i am a little bit interested in the romance, and maybe just maybe i like avery and jameson's relationship.
loved the reveals and it felt nice to finally uncover everything. i'm just a bit disappointed we didn't get a cliffhanger for the third book, because the way this one ended it felt like maybe there's no need for more. but i will be seated and waiting for the next one
I was very disappointed with this book. I really enjoyed the first instalment, but this one just seemed so convoluted and unnecessarily messy - and don't get me started on the love triangle argh! Admittedly - I am not the target audience for this book (maybe its time to give up on YA thrillers?), but the first one was fun and I do so love a good puzzle.
4.5. Love it and a fast read. Waited for 2 months for the library e-book for this. Now I have to wait for 10 months until the 3rd book comes out.
Even better than the first book. The plot twists just kept coming!!! Jameson Hawthorne has my heart. I cant wait for the third instalment ahh
Still super into the story, this one just felt like it missed a few rounds of editing. Could have been quite a bit tighter/less redundant.

WHAT'S THE HAWTHORNE LEGACY ABOUT?
Almost all the puzzles in The Inheritance Games were resolved by the end, just in time for it to introduce a new one in the closing paragraphs. Which is where we pick this up—and it casts a little doubt on some of what we thought was resolved before.
Essentially the core of this book focuses on Avery. Why was she chosen to be Tobias Hawthorne's heir? What is her connection to the family?
Avery and the brothers (with some assistance from her sister, best friend, and her staff) plunge into this mystery and end up unearthing—and shedding a lot of new light on—Hawthorne family secrets and history.
Also, someone is pretty determined to kill Avery. Somewhere along the way, that should be dealt with, too, right?
Beyond that, it's pretty near-impossible to talk about the book's plot without giving everything past page 3 away.
MAX
Avery's best friend, Max, was one of the brightest points in the previous novel—despite her minimal appearance, and I'd hoped that we'd get to see her more in this book.
My wish was granted and we got plenty of Max. It's the one improvement to The Inheritance Games. She's just a lot of fun. Thanks to her particular brand of minced oaths and personality—and being one of the few people who don't assume that their position, money, and privilege will get them what they want in the book—she shines brightly against the rest of the characters.
Also, whatever is going on between her and one of the Hawthorne brothers? I'm digging it. No matter what the next section may indicate.
YOUNG LOVE
In The Inheritance Games there was a romantic subplot or two right underneath the surface—well, one or two involving Avery, anyway, plus some others. They're not under the surface anymore. And I frankly couldn't care less about them.
The novel doesn't need them, the characters aren't made more interesting because of them, and the almost-triangle nature of it seems overly stereotypical.
But I know that I'm the statistical outlier for the reader of this book, it wasn't written for me and my typical tastes. So...take this griping with a giant rock of salt.
SO, WHAT DID I THINK ABOUT THE HAWTHORNE LEGACY?
Bottom Line: If you enjoyed The Inheritance Games, you're going to like this—it's more of the same. The two could've been one really long book. But thinking of it as “one really long book,” it sounds dull, and it's anything but that. I guess it's better to think of it as Season 2 of the series, adding layers or dimensions to the ideas from The Inheritance Games and carrying the storylines forward. It might have been easier to just repost what I said about it with a minor tweak or two than to write something new.
I'm not sure I appreciated it as much as the first book—and a couple of times I sort of rolled my eyes at it, but...there's something about Barnes' storytelling that gets under your skin and keeps you turning the pages as fast as you can, you just need to find out what twist is coming next and what will be revealed as a result of it. Compelling feels like a slight understatement.
I think my lack of enthusiasm comes from the way that Barnes showed off all the same tricks in the previous book that she does in this one, so the “discovery” factor isn't there. So the problem* I have with the book is that I was wowed so much already. She lived up to expectations rather than surpassing them is a really lousy complaint.
* Other than the YA Romance/kind-of-triangle. But that's just me being a guy way outside the target audience and my inherent immunity to that.
4.5
Not as captivating as the first book but i still enjoyed it so much. I loved the pacing and i was entertained all the way.
I also like Jameson a lot, so there's that.
