I enjoyed it overall!!!! 4.5 stars because the middle got kind of cringy and rushed, but it definitely picked up again in the last third. I definitely wish Erik had a longer stint, I really enjoyed his character and his part was super refreshing. Overall, very interesting concept and I liked the ending!!!!
Overall I liked it. Some parts dragged on a little too long explaining in minute detail things we don't really need to know. This was still a wild ride from start to finish.
The book was very gripping, and a fast pace that kept me hooked throughout .There were some parts included that I felt were there just to make the book longer.
I appreciated how it felt like a movie and the way it built an atmosphere of tension and suspense. However, the way it ended felt a bit too neatly packaged. It seemed simple, and even though I correctly guessed the creator of the chain, I was anticipating an additional twist that never came.
I read this authors other book The Island a while back and that was a 5 star! So will def be picking up more books from Adrian Mckinty soon!
Came across this book on TikTok and it was hyped up as one of the best thrillers/books that could not be put down. I agree this book lived up to that standards. However, the plot of the story was very anticlimactic. I expected the story to have more of a “WOW” factor, but it did not give that at all. The story behind the Chain was just a story about how it started. Ginger being related to the Chain was pretty much a given seeing how predictable the story was going. It was a good read don't get me wrong, I was hooked from the time I started it. I just expected a lot more from the book and this is to remind everyone to manage your expectations accordingly.
This book has an all-time great premise. When I heard it I immediately wondered how an ordinary person would deal with the situation. Unfortunately the book undercuts this somewhat by having the protagonist's brother be an ex-marine with all kinds of useful knowhow. They also meet a math professor character who gives them a bit of magical tech that no one else would have.
Absolutely nuts and unbelievable but totally gripping and hard to stop once started! Definitely recommend the audio with January LaVoy narrating.
Was definitely an interesting story, and feels like it should have its own short series on Netflix. Only lost me as the some pieces felt a bit too unreal, and some of the writing felt a bit cheesy but very good overall.

The story is okay but the writing was a bit childish and it DRAGGED. Also it is very much a “Man's Romance”. Lol At first I was all for my ship sailing and then Pete (aka Adrian) had to let me down. There were some funny moments and don't get me wrong, with some clean up and a more hashed out writing, it could be a good story, well a better one.
While this writting style is my favorite, this book I have some flaws. Part 1 is a 5/5 star should've just been left there point blank and the author himself intended it to be that way. Part 2 was predictable and boring not very entertaining and it DID NOT FLOW at all to part 1 what so ever felt like 2 seperate books and it should've been left alone. I will read another book from this author but I am very angry at how this turned out.
Wow. Where to even begin with this one. I debated going back and forth between 4 and 5 stars but overall I think it was a 5 for me. The emotions, the craziness, the way it all happens, the things you have to do and experience... it was intense. Would recommend to a friend. I really enjoyed this one. A lot of people say they didn't like the odd sentences, but for me, I liked it. It made it sound the way one would think when I was reading it and at times, it was even poetic. I wouldn't hate reading more by this author.
Let me start by saying, wow, the concept in itself is 5 stars. The first half of the book is 5 stars.
However the second part of the book kind of fell apart for me a little bit. The plot twist was ridiculously predictable. And there were quite a few inconsistencies and mistakes that i found.
Still would recommend this tho. Such a unique setting and we'll executed.
An tense and gripping thriller. A real page turner. Keen to read more by this author.
This was a great one for an audiobook. It was paced well and the narrator was captivating. The second half was not as intense or as enjoyable as the first, but I thought the ending brought it together well. I didn't love the narrator's choice of voice for Ginger. Overall a good listen!
This one of my first adventure into the adult thriller/horror genre, so I dont have many reference point.
But this book was great for beginners like me. It was very fast pased and had an Interesting premise.
I also liked the way it did not flip between pov's in a pattern, the pov always added to the feeling and movement of the story.
The pacing of this just felt off, and I felt no connection with any of the characters. It was enjoyable as an easy thriller read, but if I knew now what the story was like, I wouldn't have bothered.
Beyond ridiculous. Feels like it was written by several different people who weren't communicating with each other. AND if you've just been reunited with your child who has been kidnapped and held hostage in a basement for several days... you WOULD NOT, I repeat NOT let them go to school the next day. That is just one of the many many ridiculous moments in this book. Extra star given because I finished.
3.5 ✨ this was extremely thrilling, fast paced and unputdownable! i love how this book felt like a movie and created an atmosphere of anxiety, but everything seemed almost too perfectly tied up at the end. it was too simple. i predicted the creator of the chain correctly and was waiting for another twist... but none came. overall, i liked the action and the plot, but the characters were flat and mediocre & the ending was odd.
This book was great in my opinion! From the very first sentence I was hooked and I could not put it down. I mean I read it in one day so that speaks for it self.
I equate reading this book to watching a fast paced, action packed thriller movie.
Part one was excellent. Truly amazing, no complaints. Part two in my opinion was still great but a little obvious and predictable in a few ways. Still, it was pretty damn great and overall I was pleased with how the story ended. I had no idea where this story was going to go or how it was going to end, but, personally, I am very pleased.
3.5 stars. A unique book that I couldn't put down. Definitely worth a read if you're looking for a quick engrossing thriller. For 75% of the book I thought it would be a solid 4 stars. The ending isn't bad, just a little carried away.
Wow...what a ride! This certainly looks into the deepest part of a mother's heart and what would do for the survival of their family and protection of their children. “Life is fragile, fleeting, and precious. And to live at all is miracle enough.”
