I started reading quicksilver mid last year and got to chapter 4 and gave up. But after a friend convinced me to buddy read I absolutely love the story. The start is a bit slow but as you get through the book the world building and characters pull you in.
I can now see why this is a lot of people's fantasy obsession because it now lives rent free in my head and I can not wait for book 2
DNF @ 42%
I can't do it anymore. I'm so done with this “tortured hero” excuse for the MMC to just be an absolute fucking douchebag.. I'm sorry but personally I think that no matter the context (playfully or seriously) calling the FMC a “needy bitch” is not okay and coming from the supposed love interest??? I tried to move on from that but I couldn't. He seemed to treat everyone else with a level of indifference but when it came to the FMC he was the biggest dick to her. Personally, I cannot find any redeeming qualities about him and for that reason I cannot get on board with the romance that will happen (eventually if I kept reading).
The FMC constantly played the “poor me”/ victim card whenever she put herself into bad situations! I understand she's in a foreign world and is trying to figure out what is happening but if she just fucking listened for one second she wouldn't end up in half the situations she did.
The world and lore building were shit. The writing was verbose in a bad way. I understand the author trying to set the scene and mood, but I don't need to know the ornate wood carvings in detail.. it felt over written for no reason. When DNFing I got 282/670 pages through, and it could've easily been condensed down to 150-200 pages.
Overall, I couldn't force myself to continue reading especially after reading some reviews. I have no interest in the characters and what is going to happen to them. I won't be forcing myself to read another 300 pages just to get to a supposed “epic” ending with a cliffhanger.
I cannot recommend this book, in my opinion, there are so many better fantasy romances out there.
Final rating: DNF ✨

This book checked a lot of the boxes for romantasy, but almost too much? There were so many things I recognised from the big books in the genre, and that took some of the originality away. When the vampires were introduced I was actually disappointed. Vampires are not my jam, and it sort of came out of nowhere. But the book was smartly written, a good recipe to become a popular book. I can tell that a lot of thought went into writing it.
I loved Carrion, such a fun side character!
I'm so sorry. I was itching to put this book down as soon as we met the MMC. I made it about a quarter way through. It's a DNF for me.
I'm all one for enemies to lovers but if a guy ever treats you like this one without any explanation, run!
Not for me.

I think we all know I'm a sucker for fae-driven fantasy romance books. As long as it's good fun, and written moderately well, I AM THERE. Quicksilver fits that bill pretty much perfectly. PLUS there's the addition of vampires to this particular world, which was weird at first, but I grew to like. (I like vampire romance novels, too, but my PREFERRED cryptid would be werewolves. If someone could write a fae-werewolf romance I think I'd die and go to heaven.) ANYWAY –
Kingfisher is a grumpy shadow-powered fae that's unreasonably powerful. Sound familiar? Probably, because I swear there's a version of this character in just about every fae-driven fantasy romance out there. CAN I GET A MALE LEAD WITH SUN POWERS OR SOMETHING???? I know dark and forbidden is niche atm but c'mon. CHANGE IT UP A LITTLE BIT, CAN WE? Despite my complaints, I really did like him. He ended up having a soft heart (of course he did) and well, c'mon. [waves hands at book]
Saeris was hard to like at first. She was DETERMINED to help her brother who ended up being a god-dang idiot and also not needing help due to another character. Saeris was gruff, brash, and just kinda prickly. (Also sound familiar? BECAUSE YEAH. Whatever, it doesn't really matter bc I WILL READ ALL THE BOOKS LIKE THIS.) Once she finds out and discovers her really kinda cool, unique power, and figures out that Fisher doesn't really want her dead, well, things go better for her and she becomes tolerable.
I wish we had seen more of them actually falling in love instead of just sort of insta-lust, and then oh yeah they're together now. Maybe in the next book we'll see the soft spots between them? I have hopes.
Anyway, I really enjoyed Quicksilver. There was some seriously cool world-building aspects, but I do have questions on like....the government / ruling class. How does it work? Who pays for stuff? Is it a monarchy? An empire? A democracy? (No on that one, I'm sure.) OH WELL. More world building will happen eventually. Probably. Hopefully. Despite my unanswered, unimportant questions, Quicksilver was a solid 4.5 stars for me. Pick it up if you're at all into fae romances!
Honestly this book left me so surprised but in a good way. I loved the characters and the storyline. I especially love Kingfisher just because of his personality and the way he talks to people. The things that he says sometimes make me smitten. I also loved Searis because of her stubbornness and bravery. Also girlie can fight! The plot was amazing as well as the world-building. The spice was immaculate. I can't wait for the second book!
I have been in a reading rut for 6 months. This book was medicine. It cured me. I am now a new woman. It was also funny? Like I cackled a bit. The main character has a rare ability in the romantsy world called COMMON SENSE. Incredible. Chefs kiss. I owe this book a kidney.
I LOVED this. I ate this shit up. What is life now that I have to wait until NEXT YEAR for book 2. At least it didn't end on some huge cliffhanger. I loved Callie's blood and roses and dead man's ink series. And I'm very excited for the rest of this series. Was it perfect? No. But it was sooo fun, and it was pretty spicy if you are into that. Oh, and I listened to the audiobook, the voice actors were phenomenal. I have a preorder in for the book so I can read it too.
Absolutely devoured this book. If you have that ACOTAR hangover, this is definitely right up that alley and can fill some of that void. There's just enough comedic banter mixed in with bloody war and occasional smut to keep you on your toes
ummm well this book took me completely by surprise wow yeah wow 4.75, but the ending was a 5
It wasn’t nearly as good as Fourth Wing. I liked the characters, but couldn’t get into the world building. I didn’t love Kingfisher. I liked Saeris, Carrion, and loved Renfis. Not sure if I’ll read the next one. It depends on how long it is.
I was afraid this wouldn't live up to the hype, but it did and I loved it! It took me until about 40% for it to become fully addicting, but after that, I couldn't stop reading. I loved the two main characters, as well as, the side characters. The magic system and world is original and well thought out. Lots of action and some definite spice. Fisher is giving Rhysand a run for his money!
