Fun to read, but it's of course not a novel so it is not necessarily a good book.
Sympa de retourner dans l'univers d'Harry Potter mais le côté “effet papillon” un peu trop facile, pourrait tout aussi bien venir d'un univers totalement différent.
Jo might say its canon, but I cannot accept it as.. Only made it halfway through it and decided to bail on it. Picked it up around a year ago, and never really returned nor do I plan on finishing it.
I think it's possible to happen, but as I loathed teenage Harry and his moodiness some books ago I hated Albus.
Even as a huge HP fan, I have to say this was pretty awful. Could have made for a decent story, if the dialogue wasn't so cringeworthy. Luckily, it's a screenplay. So it's a quick read.
Part of it might have been the play format, but the story didn't grab me like the other books. Took a while to really get into, and the protagonist's inner conflict wasn't really a big enough deal to me to feel connected to the story. Also didn't at all feel like a natural transition from the last Harry Potter stories. After a while the story got more interesting, and it did at least hold my attention but I wouldn't recommend it.
1.5 stars. Interesting premise and nice to see what the future holds for Harry Potter, but the characters were no where near as developed as in the books.
Also, Harry Potter should not be a bad dad.
Of course I liked it! Although it felt a little scifi-ish? :p but loved it! Nostalgic. And Snape! Ugh! 😩
The staging seems really great, so I bet I would be wowed by the immersive experience and special effects, but Tiffany's screenplay was labored. JK's writing and wordplay have always been excellent and much more subtle. Perhaps I don't know theater well enough, and maybe you do need dialogue like this to explain emotion or action, but the dialogue was so clunky and obvious and kept spelling out (ha) the obvious emotions as opposed to letting the viewer/reader understand or infer them.
i can't even say the disappointment is here because i kinda expected it, but damn.
how can it be the sequel to Harry Potter when the characters don't have any depth, are coming out of nowhere or, even better, are caricatured?
i didn't recognized any of what makes my heart fall for this universe. the only good part of the story, in my opinion, was scorpius and albus. but even here the plot didn't seem to fit at the end while the potential was so STRONG. why rose when their relationship seems so purely, entirely romantic already?
the situations were most of the time absurd and full of contradictions and nonsense.
it's so grotesque that i'd almost laugh if i wasn't more sad to witness my favorite world botched in such a way. it will undoubtedly remain one of the worst fanfictions i've ever read in my life, which is annoying when we know it's not even what it's called.
I was surprised and thrilled to love this. Don't hold back! Read it, it will only take a couple hours and it will remind you of how thankful you are to live in a world that includes J.K. Rowling's imagination and moral clarity.
At first, I really disliked the book. As others have said, it was more like poorly written fanfiction than an actual 8th book of the Wizarding World. Perhaps, it had much to do with the fact that it was just a script and nothing else, but I really really disliked the book. I thought the characters were poorly portrayed–Ron, being reduced to little more than comic relief and a joke store owner–and actually did disservice to the original 7 books.
I think the only redeeming quality and the reason why this is rated 3 stars was because of part 2. Suddenly it wasn't about silly teenage boys, but rather the reconnection of the original characters.

I think the only redeeming quality and the reason why this is rated 3 stars was because of part 2. Suddenly it wasn't about silly teenage boys, but rather the reconnection of the original characters. Ron and Hermione falling in love again (however, I still don't like the fact that Ron was drunk the first time they got married), Harry and Ginny doing better as parents, Harry and the gang forgiving Draco, and other wonderful moments.
I find this book hard to accept as a true 8th part of the Harry Potter series. Even with the character development, I felt like the story does too much disservice to the original series–even going so far as changing the way the magic system of Harry Potter works (Time-turners). Also, I don't like the fact that Voldemort fathered a child with Bellatrix. Again, it just messes with the original story instead of enriching and adding to it.
3 stars and probably won't ever read again.
Character development is not good ... but it turned out to be better and much more realistic than I expected it to be....
Loved it. Story picks up where #7 ended...and I'll say no more because spoilers. This one's a fast read - very fast. It's a script with stage directions - and well done. Didn't think I'd like that about the story, but it was fine. I enjoyed trying to wrap my head around how they'd produce the scene on a stage. Now I'd love to see it live!
I like to read books before I watch the film. In this case, though, I didn't want the play spoiled, and so I waited to read the book. And I was going to rate the book four stars, but then I realised that the only reason for that is that I was able to enjoy reading Scorpius whilst hearing the brilliant Anthony Boyle's voice in my head. And then I realised that it's quite difficult to read Cursed Child and separate it from the performance; but that if I do, it doesn't stand up so well on its own. Also I realised that unless I'm reading or memorising lines, I really don't like reading plays.
That said, the play is wonderful and Anthony Boyle is a marvel and the score is phenomenal and if you get the opportunity to see it I heartily recommend it.
Fantastic
It clearly reads like a play which I was worried might take away from the story, but it really didn't. it would make a great fleshed out book but it's not necessary, the story is amazing and nail biting at times. I would recommend it to anyone who loves the Harry Potter universe. I'm only sad I'm done reading it so fast lol write more JKR please?
I'd call this fanfiction but that would be an insult to fanfiction and fanfic writers.
To be honest, wasn't a huge fan. The main reason I gave the book the stars I did is because I so delighted in being back in the world of Harry Potter, and it was an enjoyable, quick, escapist read However, I felt the script style was a hindrance - not only did the book feel like more of a short story than an actual, developed book, but I found it exceptionally hard to picture the characters as middle-aged, or to picture (let alone understand, empathize with) the newer characters, at all. I know this was meant for the stage thus adding a bit of a caveat to my complaint of overall development (character and plot), but still, I had higher hopes. Would still recommend to anyone who loves the Harry Potter wizarding world - but would offer that recommendation with a heavy dose of “don't get your hopes up.”
