This was a smutty, bull riding fluffy read. I would say it's more instalove than enemies to lovers (which I was told it was). I will definitely continue on in the series.
Gaslighting myself into thinking it's a book slump that's making me dnf this and not the fact that it's bad. There are too many good reviews and I stopped trusting my brain
Disfrutón, está bien.
No he mirado a nada ni a nadie desde la primera vez que mis ojos se posaron sobre ti.
Did I think a bull rider romance was for me, no.
Was it for me, yes, yes it was.
I didn't love the long hair on our MMC, but, when that's my biggest complaint about a book. We have a winner.
Love, spice and plot.
I love Elsie Silver's writing style. I like her FMCs and the banter she has between her characters. I can't wait to dive into the rest of this series.

TW: Grooming, toxic relationship, infidelity, minor/adult relationship, emotional abuse (NOT between the Main Characters)
I wish I had known the above before going into this book because it completely shocked me when it was revealed. It affected me so much that I actually took a break from the book to process my thoughts. None of the reviews I read warned me, and I wish they had. As a result, I want to write a spoiler-ridden review for those who need that warning. Please do NOT read this review if you want to avoid spoilers.
I would say that the book has a strong start, average middle, and fast-paced ending full of drama with a hallmark-worthy ending. The story stars Rhett Eaton, a professional bull rider, and his agent's daughter, Summer Hamilton. It's written in first-person, present-tense, and it switches between Rhett's and Summer's POV.
Rhett Eaton is known to the world to be a playboy, but in reality, he's a very sensitive man that hates it when people tell him what to do. Summer is perceived to be a no-nonsense, confident person like her father, but in reality, she's a woman who is a serious people pleaser who needs therapy after being groomed by her cardiologist and emotionally abused by her Stepmother and half-sister.
Let me spoil those TWs right now. When Summer was a teenager, she had a serious heart heart condition. She saw a cardiologist (Rob) who saved her life. This doctor groomed her when she was a minor and then had sex with her when she turned 18. That's how Summer defends the relationship. She insists that "nothing illegal happened" between her and Rob until she was legal. She refuses to expose him and ruin his career since she feels she "owes" him for saving her life. It's MESSED UP! Rob then married Summer's sister, but he keeps on calling and texting Summer to emotionally manipulate her and control her from afar (i.e. infidelity). It's sick. This issue is somewhat glossed over until Rhett confronts Rob and breaks his nose (I LOVED THAT SCENE!)
I felt deceived about Summer's character when stumbling upon the above revelations. In the first chapters of the story, she's portrayed as this confident girl-boss who takes no crap from any man. That image shattered when I found out she was groomed and is still being manipulated by her toxic doctor. She seriously needs therapy (she doesn't get it in the book unfortunately). Despite this, I'm glad to see that she ends up with Rhett and severs ties with Rob after all this info comes to light thanks to Rhett.
Trigger warnings finished, let's talk about the main couple. Warning: Rhett thinks about sex A LOT. Seriously, sometimes it was too much. Before they were even a couple, Rhett was fantasizing about Summer's lips around his- AHEM. I understand having perverted thoughts, but that imagination of his was sometimes too wild, or the constant erections he got around her. Not gonna lie, it was off-putting. I also thought he was childish the first half of the book. He's very self-centered, and he doesn't really care about other people's feelings as much as he should. However, he's redeemed in my eyes when he confronts Rob and punches him in the face for disrespecting Summer. I gotta give Rhett credit, he defends the woman he loves, which scored serious points in my book. True, he let slip Summer's secret in front of the family, which wasn't cool, but at the same time, it also released her from Rob's clutches and set her free (something she never realizes in the story). He does have some character development by the end of the story.
There are like three sex scenes in the book, and they're GREAT. Rhett is definitely smooth. It's the best smut I've read in a novel so far.
In terms of their romance, I think it develops... okay. It's kind of clunky midway. I don't like that Rhett calls her Princess all the time (Summer's Dad used to call her that). However, the romance gets it's hallmark ending that was super sweet and heartwarming. Despite Summer's fear for Rhett riding the bull, she chose to go support him and his dream, and in return, he chooses her. That's all I'll say there <3
This was my first cowboy/romance book, and I enjoyed the ride despite being triggered. I'm glad Summer and Rhett got their happy ending. Rhett's family is also wholesome with a southern country charm, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I seriously need a heartwarming cowboy love story without the triggers please!
Okay story, but the author should be sued for false advertising because it wasn't Flawless
A ler este livro só me passava em loop uma coisa pela cabeça: “Save a horse, ride a cowboy” (que é a única parte da música que eu sei).
Acho que no geral estava com demasiadas expectativas para este livro, mas um bom entretenimento na mesma.
3.5 ⭐️ I'm new to the romantic/ spicy genre and overall I enjoyed this book. There were parts that dragged a little bit (could have been a shorter book imo) and I found some of the romance to be a little too cheesy, but overall a good amount of surprises thrown in and overall a fun, romantic story.
Probably wouldn't recommend reading it on a plane like I did
I'm a little embarrassed to say I read this book. Did I like it? Meh...
What I can say is that Rhett calling Summer “Princess” gave me the ick!
read for seasonal roulette readathon: spring 2024
i actually enjoyed this a lot more than i expected. i really enjoyed the writing, the bull riding, and the faily aspects of this story. i wish i was just more attatched to the characters.
just a cute and sexy sports romance, What more could you want.
Authough I wouldn't say this is enemys to lovers it is more kinda dislike to lovers. but still hot
I feel like you're either a Chesnut Springs girly or a Meadowlark girly and I'm a Meadowlark girly. I still want to finish the series but it wasn't the best. Her dad's interest in her sex life was... uncomfortable at best...
I don't support sports with animals.
but the 2 stars are just because the book is reeeally mediocre
GOD this might be my favourite romance that I've read this year or just in general, even.
The fucking characters are written so fucking well, and the WRITING as a whole I LOVED, I did NOT expect to enjoy a cowboy, bull rider, romance this much. The SMUT as well oh my god, I usually am 50/50 with smut but HOLY SHIT it was good. The little texting sections at the beginning of almost all chapters were such a nice, funny, interesting little touch. And OH MY GOD the ending and epilogue pulled my heartstrings straight out of my body and onto the ground. If I wasn't as medicated as I am right now I would've been SOBBING, I TELL YOU, SOBBING.
Also, as soon as I saw that the next book was about Willa, I had never wanted to pick up the second book in a series so BADLY. I LOVE HER.
Not me thinking this cowboy romance was going to be something for me and my tastes
Vale si, ahora entiendo TODO EL HYPE POR QUE DIOS SANTO QUE MARAVILLAAAA AHHHHHH
Okay yes, now I understand ALL THE HYPE BECAUSE HOLY GOD THAT WONDERFUL AHHHHHH
I mean, I've read it in one sitting because it's addictive and it's been super short but the story is so cool and the protas are like GREAT?!?!? I don't know, it's just that I knew that I was going to give it 5 Stars for all the opinions of the people but when I read the book I had it more than clear, anyway I also want a cowboy bull rider I guess
rating- 3/5
my pet peeve is when they call a book enemies to lovers when it's only them not starting off on the right foot.
But even if i let that slide, i wasn't really a fan of the whole cowboy/country vibe T_T and the entire setting was purely country so...
(But that is a me problem, so i won't let that affect my rating much)
Overall, it was pretty meh. Entertaining at some parts, but just felt flat otherwise.
Also was it just me or was the ending sliiiightly...dissatisfying? Could be the competitive streak in me, but are you fr? No way he just decided to quit, when he was that close to winning a third title. An alternate better ending, imo would be: Summer convincing Harvey, Cade and Beau showing up for Rhett's last rodeo at Vegas. And her mouthing she loves him exactly like it happened. But instead of impulsively quitting, his family and Summer finally showing up for him gives him the love, support and understanding he's always been craving; therefore helping him hang on for 8 seconds. He wins, Theo comes second. Rhett coaches him next year so he can win. Because let's be fair; Theo would actually like to win instead of being handed a title for funsies.
I think the other books in the series might be more up my alley. (single dad romance with a cute kid??? shut up I'm skipping to Cade's book right now)
I can safely say I made an error in reading Heartless first as it was just perfection.
This one was good but didn't quite live up to the second book. I still really enjoyed it, but there was just a little spark missing in the early chapters and I really didn't like the third act conflict, it felt very out of character for both Rhett and Summer in that moment.
I'm definitely going to continue in the series but with slightly lower expectations, as nothing is going to live up to Heartless.
