Slightly, better than the first book. Rhysand's overrated, yeah he was there for Feyre when Tamlin wasn't but he seems just as controlling and more manipulative. Didn't like how Tamlin's PTSD was just dismissed and he was simply turned into the guy we're suppose to vehemently hate.
The first half of this book was a little slow but the last like 20% I was hooked! And things finally got spiiiicy 😉 I was laughing, gasping and saying “no fucking way” I can't wait to see where book 3 takes me
This one is an improvement in almost every way over the first one. Characters are more mature. You don't spend hours lost as to what the goals or motivations of the charcers are as everything clear early on.
Side note, I think Feyre is a racist turned RCTA (aka still racist) activist with a serious case of twinkle dust fever (I assume thats what they call people who are obsessive with their attraction to fae kind).
She goes from oh look a fae, what a wicked monster, with talons sharp as a papercut, fangs still bloodied with my ancestor's flesh. Then two seconds later talking about the same person she'd say something like, his jawline chiseled by the gods themselves, his gleaning eyes send waves of blinding bright light enough to melt steel, steel so hot I feel in on the soft spot on my inner thigh.
Then, after she is made fae herself, she goes to have a sit down with her racist family to tell them how wrong they are and that her sister should not marry that KKK dude cause fairy lives matter! (Will Smith was wrong :-( ).
I am so very tempted to give this 5 stars. (Maybe I did and just haven't updated this)
Anyway. I very much enjoyed this book. The best relationship development is between Feyre and Rhysand. Hands down. Straight from the get go. Starting in ACOTAR.
As a reader I could sense the relationship building between even though Feyre did not. Or, would not. Being Tamlin's enemy puts Rhy at a disadvantage with Feyre. But, because of Rhysand and his patience and kindness she begins to heal and learn to read.
Then she goes back to Spring Court and all is undone until Rhy steps in again. Until, one day Tamlin goes too far with his controlling and something inside Feyre finally snaps.
I absolutely adore the way Rhy and the Night Court let Feyre work through things. The way they support her and care for her even though they barely know her. And, say what you will but I do not believe it is only because of the bond. It's because of who they are.
This book made me dislike Tamlin even more than I had in the first book. Like, really really not like him. He's a spoiled brat. Poor Lucien stuck in the middle. Between a long friendship with someone who gave him a home and a budding friendship with someone who truly cares for him but is becoming a part of another Court.
What Tamlin let happen to Feyre's human family was cruel. And, let's not kid ourselves. He is the reason Hybern got to the sisters. He is the reason they were captured. And he hardly fought at all when kind and sweet Elain was being forced into the Cauldron. Even with the woman he supposedly loved begging him to make it stop. Spoiled brat that he is.
Anyway.
Another very well written book. Great character and relationship development. Oh. Though we don't know much about him, I think Azriel is my favorite character.
The first book was so stupid I almost didn't return for this one. Glad I did.
I can't explain why. But this series has completely enchanted me.
I was reading and someone tried to talk to me and my response was “silence in my court”.
I have crushes on two characters, and I am completely in love with another. And I have vengeful hate for many others. Bring on book 3.
This one was harder for me to get through, despite the fact that this seems to be everyone's favorite book in the series. I love the MMC and some of the side characters. Again, I felt like all of the interesting things happen closer to the end of the book, and it was really hard for me to stick through this to get there, but I eventually finished.
After not being impressed, and quite honestly disappointed, by the first book...ACOMAF restored my faith in the series.
I am so glad my bookish friends pushed me to get past ACOTAR and start ACOMAF. This book had better writing, pace, content, etc. A world of difference (like, night and day) from book 1 and turned out to be everything I wanted from the series and longed for when i got through book 1.
I loved the character development in this book as well. Feyre, sorry to say, was a miserable and whiny character in the first book. ACOMAF shows her coming into her own, developing confidence, realizing just how special she came back with the the combination of gifts (no spoilers).
If you are like me and struggled with ACOTAR, please ride that struggle bus all the way to ACOMAF. The destination is absolutely worth it.
i was very happy to be rewarded with this book after slugging through the first book.
good fantasy smut lol
4.5
I loved how Maas made us hate Tamlin even tho I loved him so much in the first book. It took way too long for Rhys and Feyre to get together but I'm not mad about it. I was in shock a few times at the end where I really gasped out loud and I was impressed. Can't wait to start the next one.
why did this take me an entire month to finish. halfway thru i was HONESTLY lost on what they were even doing...what is this book they're looking for?? why are we traveling?? it just dragged on and i could only read in pieces.
it's a great series so far, i think it's just important to get a break between them. it was good. still, the sex wasn't as riveting as it was hyped up to be but that was fine. kind of excited for feyre's trickery towards tamlin though! i always thought he was boring asf anyway
this was so much better than the first book. first book was fine, this one was a masterpiece.
I fell in love with every single character. the last 80 pages of the book had my eyes filling with tears, over and over again, for the horror, the bloodshed, the hopelessness, and ultimately, the overpowering love of it all.
that is how you write romantic fantasy.
I struggled a bit at the beginning because I wasn't reading as much as usual, so it took me a while to finish. BUT JESUS CHRIst
This book is gorgeous. The action and romance is exquisite as fuck. And Rhys and Feyre's dynamic has me in tears they make me so happy.
The last few chapters in this book took me on the most emotional journey ever
Solid read, although there's a whole 20% in the middle that could've been cut. The first third and last third were fast-paced and fun, and totally made up for the slow-down in the middle. Stakes are high going into the third book!
