This book wasn't very deep. There was a lot of strange things going on. Luckily it was an extremely quick read. I think the author has promise. I almost liked it. I read it as a ARC.
Read as part of the Read Harder Challenge 2018 - A book published posthumously. I am so glad I read this book. I doubt I would have read it if it wasn't for the challenge. But what a beautifully written book - SO so good! Yes you will probably cry at the end but it is so worth the read.
Read for the adult book I am leading for the next few months. I wouldn't have picked this book for myself but honestly couldn't stop reading it. It is a dark topic - the final days of the Romanov family and the woman who claimed to be Anastasia. If you have interest in the subject matter you will probably enjoy this novel. Glad I read it.
The moment I started reading this book I was hooked. The lead characters are realistic people you want to spend time with. I could not put this book down. I wanted to see how their story would end and finished it in two sittings. Jasmine Guillory has a fan in me - looking forward to her next novel already.
Dark subject matter .... not for the faint of heart. I had some trouble with some of the scenes with Madison in captivity. Once I reached about 1/4 of the book, I blew through the book because I wanted to see what happened to Madison and Naomi. The book has a very satisfying end. I am glad I read the book and I am looking forward to the second book in the series.
Once again .... The Three Pines series is a great read. This entry took me a little long to read. There was several storylines twisted up together. It took until the end of the book to figure out how the storylines all made sense. Also there was a going back and forth in the timeline of the story which isn't always conducive to understanding what is happening. Glass Houses wasn't my favorite/easy read of the series however it is a very good book.
Great read! This novel has so many levels to it. What is marriage? What binds us to people? Would your marriage survive circumstances beyond your control? I liked that Jones gave the perspectives of Roy, Celestial and Andre. There is no clear right or wrong choices. I really enjoyed this novel.
I have a feeling that when this novel is released it will be the natural choice for book groups. So many things to discuss. Thanks so much to netgalley for the chance to read this book!
A quick feel good novel. Basically took me about 2-3 days to finish when I sat down without distractions to finish. This is a story of an elderly man who connects with a young woman he meets at the cemetery and his next door neighbor. I enjoyed it. If you need a break from life - this is a good book to curl up with.
Read for my library book group.
Very readable thriller - would have rated higher if I had liked the main character more. Her defects as a character made sense within the story.
If you enjoy thrillers, I would recommend it.
I've been hearing about this series for while. It has been a while since I read sci-fi. This was good way to get back into the genre. The murderbot has an interesting perspective - snarky and not at all interested in the humans it works for. If you would like a quick read with a fascinating lead character- this is a great pick.
Very moving memoir centering on Levy's miscarriage. I couldn't stop reading. She explores the deep feelings of her failing relationship and the loss of her child.
Great read! Couldn't put it down. Plot is exactly as described. There was a bit of a twist to it in a good way. Really like Reid's writing style.
A lovely book about Ann Hood's relationship with books. I flew through this book in one day. Hood highlights books that shaped her and her character. It is a very good read! So glad I came across it.
One of my favorite quotes:
“Even now I like to sometimes indulge in the guilty pleasure of reading a book that literary snobs would never consider reading. And I enjoy them, those paperbacks I don't mind leaving behind on an airplane. They make long flights pass pleasantly. I don't have to marvel at the use of language or metaphor or puzzle over how the author pulled off such a mind-bogglingly intricate plot. I just read it and forget it, perhaps a habit I learned back in high school when I read any book I could get my hands on.”
This was a good read - based on a true events. I really liked the the author told the story from two points of view. If you like stories based on true events - you will find this story heartbreaking and fascinating.
Strout has a gift of revealing broken people through beautiful stories. This is a collection of short stories about characters who have some connection to Lucy Barton (My Name is Lucy Barton.) I usually don't enjoy short stories but I found the interconnections of the stories fascinating. I've really enjoyed the Amgash series so far.
Good thriller -kept my attention (which is saying a lot)! I would read more books by Lisa Jewell.
Great read - fascinating examination of an unique person. I enjoyed the book very much. I think Finkel did a great job of telling the story of how Christopher Knight retreated to the woods for 27 years. Hoping that I get the chance to discuss this book with other readers.
My feeling after reading the book is that Knight had had enough of the societal responsibilities of the world. He chose to retreat from what society expects of people. But his choice to live off of the people who do follows society's expectations seemed to be hypocritical. I would have respected his choice to retreat if he had found ways to provide for himself. In the long run, I feel he was lazy and selfish. I am still amazed that he survived 27 winters in Maine. I am still perplexed by the fact that in 27 years he only spoke 1 word to another person. I wonder how he perceives his choices.
Read for my book discussion with 4-6 graders - enjoyable book with interesting characters.
