It took me a while to get into this novel. I love the Bosch series but this book seemed to not know exactly where It wanted to go. About 3/4 through, I finally wanted to see where it would end. I wished it had focused more on the Maddie storyline and the resolution. It gave a skeleton of a solution with the reader having to fill in a lot pieces. I am Hoping the next volume in the series is more tightly constructed. I will talk a bit of a break before I read the next Bosch book.

Once I got into this novel it moved quickly. It was Harry Bosch all the way. Harry focused single mindfully on solving the case - mostly working on his own, dragging his partner and any other law enforcement officers along with him, butting heads with everyone and in the end, the only one to see the solution to the case…

This was a fascinating read. I had never heard of Jessie Redmon Fauset before this book. Murray did a great job of bringing her back to life in this book. If you have any interest in the Harlem Renaissance - this is a must read novel. Fauset worked along side W. E. B. Du Bois working on the magazine The Crisis. She worked with many well known poets and novelists.

Great novel based on a true event! Really enjoyed reading this book. I flew through reading it. If you enjoy historical fiction- this would be a good book to read.
