Recommended to me - I enjoyed reading it. It took me away from life's insanities.
Set in the 80s - written in the pulp horror of the times. It has a funny level that I didn't expect. If you like horror - Stephen King, you would like this book.
I really enjoyed this book - a story about a fictional rock band with all the drama of a 70s rock band. What an interesting way to write a novel - through interviews. I think that Reid brought the characters alive for me through the interviews. It really made me wish the music they talked about was real. I longed to listen to the Aurora album! I also liked that you were made to wonder what was the truth as different characters told the same stories with different takes.
Such a well written book! I picked this book up every free moment I had. Keefe does a great job of telling the history of the troubles in Ireland through the disappearance and murder of Jean McConville. I never got lost in the details because of Keefe's gift of keeping the story alive. I just wish I had someone to discuss the book with!
Really enjoyed reading this book of essays ... makes you think about where we are historically as a nation made up of many people and what is “home”. I found the author's reflections on how she feels living in Vermont as an African American particularly interesting. Looking forward to more books from this author!
Enjoyable quick read - a cozy mystery from the murderer's perspective.... dark and funny
Loved this book! It covers so much information about libraries while focused on the fire at the Los Angeles public library in 1986. If you like libraries, you will enjoy this book.
Read Harder Challenge 2020 Task #14: Read a romance starring a single parent
Enjoyable quick read. Interested in reading more books by Helen Hoang.
Interesting memoir . . . really makes you think about how children perceive their parents.
Read Harder Challenge 2020 Task #18 Read a picture book with a human main character from a marginalized community
Beautiful book - both the story and the illustrations - Strongly recommend!
Wow.... heartbreaking. This is a beautifully sad book. Glad I read it but feeling a lot of feelings.
So so good! I really loved this graphic novel. It rang a lot of bells for me - biracial issues, current political issues and living in America while brown...
Read this book ... so good.
This book grabbed my attention right away. It is an intense memoir of an abusive marriage. It is a hard read due to the abuse in the marriage. Sundberg did a great job of showing the duality of loving a person yet realizing marriage to the same person is capable of being salvaged. Glad I read the book.
it was an interesting book but I felt it dragged in some spots. Not a bad book but also not a great book.
2023 goal - Read the Armand Gamache series so re-reading the earlier books in series to refresh my memory. I really enjoyed this book the second time around. There is so much I enjoy about this series - the character of Gamache, his insight of people and the lovely village of Three Pines.
Wow
Quick read with several twists to it. One of the twists I was suspicious of but the second one was tricky. An enjoyable read!
Reading this book as part of my church's bookathon 2020 ... I grabbed this book for two reasons – The title and the length. I am glad that I got the opportunity to read it. The author, prior to getting a diagnosis of Stage IV colon cancer, wrote her master's thesis on “prosperity gospel.” Her response to her diagnosis is shaped by the whole idea of the prosperity gospel. If you are good – good things happen to you. It is a thought process that even affects Non-Christians. This memoir make you think about what you expect from life and why you expect it. One thing she says several times is “life is so beautiful and life is so hard”. In this world of social media reflecting just the shiny parts of life, we forget that sometimes it's not so shiny. It is important to remember it isn't our fault when it doesn't shine. I strongly recommend this book!
One of my favorite quotes from the book -
“What would it mean for Christians to give up that little piece of the American Dream that says, “You are limitless”? Everything is not possible. The mighty kingdom of God is not yet here. What if ‘rich' did not have to mean ‘wealthy', and ‘whole' did not have to mean ‘healed'? What if being the people of “the gospel” meant that we are simply people with good news? God is here. We are loved. It is enough.”
After reading the book I found her TED talk – so good...

Whoops read book 3 of the series before book 2.... it is a good quick book with characters you care about. Just what I needed to start the summer.
I really enjoyed this book. I haven't read anything else by Kristin Hannah so I had no expectations. I will be leading one of my library's book groups for a few months. This book is the one they are reading for July. It was a great book to read after a dry spell of reading! Set in Alaska it tells the story of a young girl becoming a woman. It has it's soap opera moments but I honestly enjoyed every minute of it! I think it will be a great book for discussion.
