Very good.... basically stayed up all night to read. So compelling - the story of the whalers journey after the shipwreck was heartbreaking. Although it was hard to read ... I couldn't put it down.
Really enjoyed this book. I wasn't expecting it to be so good - discovered it through pop culture happy hour. Really liked the characters and the plot.
Wow... This book. I don't even know where to go with this review. I guess I will start with the main character, Lou Clarke. I enjoyed her transition from small town girl to forward looking woman. I loved the relationship that developed between Lou and Will, the paralyzed man, who she is employed to assist. This is a real page turner. I kept going back to it any time a chance to read it. No spoilers but I will say it was a bittersweet ending.
Been stuck for last month or so ... nothing was appealing to me as reading material. The Girl with All the Gifts broke the slump. The book begins slowly with the question in the reader's mind: “What is going on here?”
As you put the pieces together - you begin to connect to the characters of Melanie and Miss Justineau. The journey through a dystopian Britain kept me turning the pages until I came to the satisfying ending.
Could not put this book down - ending had me in tears. If you enjoy a twisty book which you are dying to find out what is going on, you will love this book. Check it out.
Wow... This was a can't put it down book. Intense conclusion... looking forward to reading more by Elizabeth Silver.
Another amazing novel!
I had kind of been putting off reading Fangirl. I had heard it was really good and it was the last Rowell book I hadn't read. I knew once I read it, I would wouldn't have any more of her books to read.
I enjoyed this book as much as I thought I would. I breezed through this book. I loved the character Cath and her journey though this book. The story of her first year of college and her maturation as a person & writer captured my attention. Looking forward to Rowell's novel this October, “Carry on” which will bring the characters of Simon Snow & Baz to life.
Read this with my 4th & 5th grade discussion group - Everyone enjoyed it.
It is a cute book that reminds me greatly of “Charlie and the Chocolate factory” by Roald Dahl. We had a great discussion! It would be great if we read the follow up “Mr. Lemoncello's Library Olympics” sometime in the future.
I like the premise of this series. I like the main characters, Kate and John Tomasetti. The plot of this entry in the series was disturbing but good.
I don't like Kate's resistance to the relationship with Tomasetti. I don't like the continuing story about the death of Daniel Lapp - resolve it already. I don't like her alcoholism.
This series has positives and negatives.... Not sure if I will be continuing this series...
Another good novel in the series featuring Mike Bowditch - I feel that each addition to the series gets better. Great mystery and Bowditch is growing as a character. The series has a great location and keeps the stories interesting. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I read Chevy Steven's third novel quickly. I have to say it wasn't my favorite book by her. I think it suffered because there were SO many plot lines to follow. But I will say. I really wanted to see how it was going to end and for the most part, I enjoyed it.
Awesome book - stayed up late to finish. Love the food tour through the story of author's life.
“Grown-ups don't look like grown-ups on the inside either. Outside, they're big and thoughtless and they always know what they're doing. Inside, they look just like they always have. Like they did when they were your age. The truth is, there aren't any grown-ups.”
Wow! I loved this book. I really can't express how much I loved it. I basically want to buy multiple copies and give them to family and friends.
I don't do rehashes of books in my reviews so I won't tell you WHAT happens. I will just say it is a tale of a boy who encounters a magical place and family. Ummm . . . READ it! Did I mention that I LOVED it?
Loved this book! Rowell did an amazing job of bringing her main characters to life. This book was so good. It was fresh & interesting. I could not stop reading it. Many people commented on the sad ending but I did not feel that way at all. It was a hopeful ending. Can't wait to read another book by Rainbow Rowell. (Listening to audiobook)
I like Knisley's style. I see the potential in this book that lead to “Relish”. I read this in one sitting. But that said... I do see the 21-22 year old mentality clearly in “French Milk.” I would have enjoyed it more if she didn't focus on her money concerns for the future as she spent 6 weeks living in Paris. Despite that minor complaint, I did enjoy her retelling of her trip with her mother.
Interesting beginning to a series! I am really looking forward to reading more about Marko, Alana and their daughter, Hazel...
