jak to jest pięknie, z czułością napisane.

It was so beautiful.

I wish I could forget and start reading again without an idea what awaits me.

the only thing I remembered about this book was the fact I read it. That's it. How could I forget the utter delight that is Nirupam Singh is beyond me.

I still have to reread few books in the series and a couple to read for the very first time, but this actually might be my favourite.

I really wish that these were all stories of Saints' lives, not few random tales about their miracles, because we learned the actual ones from other books.

the title promises a lot. And delivers very through relation of what preceded the 1972 match on both sides (great explanation of how USSR worked, I'm impressed!), how the match itself went and what happened afterwards.
Also makes me want to murder Bobby Fischer with my bare hands.

would you think that something with “Confessions of a Groupie” in subtitle can be so painfully dull?
because this one was SO painfully dull. Even the spicy bits.
also do yourself a favour and skip the foreword entirely.

it's 4 in all honesty, but I'm rounding it up for the research the author did. Big fan of this recent Getting Eastern Bloc Right approach, me.

author's notes are unintendedly hillarious at times.
also, ma'am. Ma'am. You don't have to dwell over what “Russian” means. Just say Soviet.

I am still EXTREMLY bitter about some changes, but I loved finding how and when and why.

tak naprawdę 4,5, ale że to książka napisana z perspektywy, która żywo mnie interesuje, z przyjemnością zaokrąglam.

4,75, for the pacing was weird at times.
that was EERIE, in the most wonderful way. Love and respect for people and folklore put in writng those books can be compared only to Deathless, which I love breathlessly.
instant favourite, I will be back not once and not twice.

it is so wonderfully familiar on so many levels.
also Wasia is nonbinary.

I am quite emotional about the importance of the oven here, ok? Ovens are important and a blessing and the very center of the house.

why did I start reading a book series that is not finished yet?
beside that I am delighted, 4,5.

4,5 actually. What a ride.

this book shot me between the eyes and it was awesome.

that was way more fun than I have expected, enough that I ordered actual books before I finished this one.
Nikolai, my boy <3

hello my favourite trope, characters not talking with each other!
pacing at the beginning kinda threw me off, but overall still enjoyabe enough.
but. Dear author. Did you really had to name a character “Hello”?
