I've never been partial to non-fiction, but I absolutely loved this book. Fantastic insight into such a glamorous world and a really valuable insight into the work and tenacity it takes to bring such an amazing magazine to the forefront.
Quick to read, but really fast paced and witty. I especially loved the Les Miz reference
DNF. Went way too fast and skipped over so much of the good stuff that you want to read.
They're bet by a quarter of the way through, killing the suspense. Then after the first time they slept together, it skipped the entire first week of their romance.
Plenty promise, but overly rushed execution.
Absolutely fantastic reference book on some of the major events and arguments that shaped modern cataloguing. Well worth the read
A nice wee edition to the story. Worth getting just for the artwork and character comments on every page, but it didn't add much to the story over all.
Loved and hated this in equal measure! I adored the True Crime / Criminal Minds-esque take on their story, but the ending was ultimately so unsatisfying and the artwork fluctuated painfully between gorgeous black and white comic panels and full colour borderline traced pictures that looked nothing like any comic style. Just bad trace work to hide a worse photoshop job.
Kinda bland and expected, as far as takes on the Joker go. And I would much have preferred the full Bruce-perspective.
What a disappointment.
I was all set up for a great YA thriller about these teens being hunted by some serial killer or something through the sewers. Except it took a good 3rd of the book to even get to the underground rave. There was no investment in the characters, cause absolutely everyone was so flawed and to top it all off, the bloody “big bad” was Spoilersome tentacled sewer monster, which completed did not fit the tone of the book.
Meanwhile, here I was making theories, all of which would have been vast improvements on the plot.
Oh and that ending! SpoilerLets make out even though my supposed best friend was just mutilated. WTF!!!
Cannot remember the last time I was more disappointed with a book.
Very helpful for developing a case study methodology for my LIS master's thesis. Great reference book for LIS research methodologies
Nice take on an old plot style. Possibly a little predictable, but it still has you guessing most of the way through.
Felt a bit to much like a Breakfast Club rip off for the first few chapters, but after that it thankfully stopped and became its own thing
DNF. Has same issue as I've had with all Suzanne Collins THG books: really good ideas and plot, but the writing is not captivating enough for me to get into it.
I had a very ‘meh' reaction over all, but a couple of small funny bits raised it from a 2-star review
This book was an absolutely lovely read. Nothing was predicable, which was so refreshing. It had you guessing at every page which kept me so engrossed. My only quam was that the events weren't particularly realistic in how they carried out. (such as napping on the couch in someone's arms that you've only known for 5-6 hours and are already pretty sure is lying to you).
While i loved learning about Black Widows past, its been a long time since i read a comic as sexist as this one.
Boring, unoriginal, unimmersive, and the writing style is some of the most boring I've ever encountered. Terrible over all.
I absolutely adored this book. so quirky and beautifully written. An adventure across the rooftops of Paris that i didn't know i needed. The only reason i gave it 4 stars way the ending. It was the perfect happy ending. But the book was in dire need of an epilogue. I got my happy ending, but it was so abrupt, i still desperately needed my happily ever after.
I made it to the end of this purely because I'd had a series of bad books and wanted to at least finish one of them.
This book is poorly written. It plays with societal commentary that it has not properly thought through and that, in the end, barely impacts the core narrative.
Additionally, the ending was unsatisfying and left many ongoing plot points ignored and unresolved.
I do not recommend this book, it will leave you disappointed and unsatisfied.
Go read Ready Player One. It deals with the political commentary in a vastly superior manor and the characters are infinitely more fleshed out.
I expected to thoroughly hate this book, if I'm being entirely honest. I've grown so far beyond my attachment to the original series, which saw me though some of my darkest teenage years.
And don't get me wrong, it still has all the troublesome and problematic writing that is trademark of a Stephanie Meyer book, but I enjoyed it anyways.
The older and more well read you get, the harder it is to stop analysing books and just absorb and enjoy them. But with this, it was like slipping on an old, worn jumper. Familiar and comfortable. I knew all the characters and the story, but there was just enough new content to make it feel fresh while still familiar.
I enjoyed it for all the reasons you enjoy reading fanfiction.
Though, let me be clear, this is still utter trash and it reads dangerously too similar to the memoir of a serial killer that, after the EL James' take on BDSM fiasco, I have actual worries that this will be how girls think men are supposed to be.
Spoiler alert: they're not and if they act like this, they're going to stab you in your sleep. Run!
An absolutely fascinating read. I covers several different areas of Utopianism in a comfortable understandable language, which still keeping the air of a scholarly text. A great introduction by the best scholar in the field. My only qualm: while he still brought in many different theorists and used them very well, he may have quoted his own work a tad too much.
I loved this book. As a John Green fan, it is so nice to have a book with a happy ending. All of his books have hopeful endings, but not usually happy ones. The contrast between characters and how they tied together really made the story and I could relate to them so much for entirely different reasons. Their outlooks were unique and the Shrodingers Cat references have a special place in my heart!
