This book is amazing. It is heartbreaking and hopeful and I loved it. I could go on and on but I don't want to spoil it. The books speaks of things that are awkward and terrible and horrible and really should not be spoken of but it does it in a way that you know but you don't get the gorry details (too much). I loved Finnikin and Evanjalin and Froi and Moss and well pretty much everyone else there was to love. It has made it into my rare I-must-buy-this-book-so-I-can-read-it-again catagory.
I found this on a summer reading list. I have not had much luck lately with summer reading lists. I don't generally get into books about the Salem witch trials but this book had me hooked from the start. This book was great. I found it interesting and well developed. I really liked the main character, Connie, and found her believable and likeable. I found it descriptive and lively. I would recommend this book.
Blah. I thought the prologue was fascinating and then blah. The main character was so flat and cliché (wimpy kid gets a magical object and turns into a hero). Plus I could not make a connection with him. I wanted to feel sorry or sad or afraid for him and I just didn't. I thought there were a few interesting side characters but they would show up, be interesting and then disappear: example Leaf and Ed. Where did they go? Suzy was interesting and then gone as well. I thought the concept of the Will was interesting but yet again fell flat. I am not sure I will take the time to read the rest of the series. The concept was very interesting but the execution did not work for me. I also did not like the not-so-subtle references to Christianity in the negative. To each his own I guess.
The first 1/2 was blah but the second half made up for it. Bring on Valek, Janco and Ari!
I enjoyed the first Cordelia book (An Unsuitable Job for a Women) much more than this one. It was on okay read.
This is a great short story, great world building and the characters are interesting and deep. Hearing it read by LeVar Burton added to the awesomeness.
Super interesting book that took me a second to get into because I didn't realize that it is a collection of short stories that are tied together by place. I can't decide if my fav was low-cut gang or the story with cinder. I enjoyed it.
As with any collection of short stories, there are hits and there are misses. Overall I enjoyed the book. My fav was Dorothy Sayers but that is no surprise, I love everything Lord Peter Wimsey.
I got the pocket version and I found it a bit challenging to read. I am a fast reader and I felt like all I was doing was turning pages. But I liked it. I thought it was interesting. It got a little too zen for me at times but I am a practical girl.
“Let your courage be bigger than your fear.”
This is a great book. I enjoyed the writing as well as the story. This is a wonderful book about friendship, new perspectives, making hard choices, and growing up. I highly recommend it.
I've not disliked a book as much as I disliked this book in a long time. It hurt my feeling to not like it because I LOVE Night Circus. The writing is beautiful, but beautiful writing must be accompanied by plot.
One of the best things about graphic novels is that I can read it fast and then go back and enjoy my favorite bits. This is another winner!
If you'd asked me on page 80 how many stars I'd give this book it wouldn't have been four (or even three) but then the booked kicked into high gear and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt the awakening to January's understanding of herald was natural and realistic. I figured out who the “bad guy” was and even his connection to the Founder early but it only added to the tension as I knew something January didn't (or at least would t admit). It was a good read.
4.5 stars. Can't wait to read the second book in this dualology. Loved the characters and the world building is excellent.
I loved this book by George Takei about his experience in an internment camp. It broke my heart, opened my eyes, and challenged what I thought I knew. It also made me laugh, realized the importance of family and friends, and invited me to be better in taking time to understand others and to be kind to everyone. It is a graphic novel so it is a quick read. I highly recommend it.
I read this in about an hour and a half. It was an intersting story. I may have liked it better if Green could have seen faults in her family. I guess nostalgia and all but her moonlight sister was just too good to be true.
Addition: Now that I have read the sequel I like this much better. Read them together in a complication called Green Heart.
I liked this book. It was an interesting take on the whole vampire/werewolf thing that is currently being done to death. I liked how the vamps were not sleek, gorgeous, heart melting hunks. It did have some langauge but not out of context langauage, it seemed to fit the situation. I liked the main characater and I really liked the Beast King. Just enough humor to spice it up.
Very interesting story of a boy hiring an alien assassin. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Made even better with LeVar Burton's amazing storytelling abilities (LeVar Burton Reads).
I liked this book. It was a little long but I guess when you are writing one chapter at a time for a series back in the day it could get long pretty easily. I was sad taht Elizabeth Gaskell did not finish the book before she died. I know we know what she wanted but to have her write it would have made this book amazing. But I enjoyed it, good read.
A friend let me borrow this book and suggested that I read straight away. I let it sit for a couple of days which was a good thing because once I picked it up I did not want to put it down. Part of the reason I did not put it down was because I thought it was going to have a Color Purple moment. I read with trepidation thinking any moment know something truly horrible was going to happen. Horrible things happen, not in a Color Purple kind of way. After finishing the book and realizing how truly poetic and beauitiful it was I had to read it again this time enjoying the ride.
I liked this book and I am going to read the next books in the series. I got a little frustrated with the interaction with the characters and I thought it was a bit one dimensional and some things were wrapped up a little to cleanly for me but the storyline itself was intriging so on plot alone I would recommend it to young adult fiction readers. I love Kartik and I hope he plays a greater role in the second and third books.
I am not ‘listening' to this book, I am reading it. However, I could not find the ‘book' on Goodreads so I am adding this instead.
Each book just gets better and better. This is my new favorite in the Maisie series.
