I didn't mind that the plot ran slow. Perhaps because I already know and love the characters but I guessed who did it and how way too early. I'll still give the second Dizzy Heights Mystery a try.
I got this from the Library on Friday and had it finished by Saturday. I was even a good mom, cleaned and went shopping. I could not put this book down. Great, fun, interesting read.
I had a hard time getting into this book but once I got into it I found that the author had somehow wrapped me around the lives of these characters. I found myself wanting a full on love story like Jane Austin but in the end I found it much sweeter the love story that was told. I loved this book.
2.5 stars
I liked this book. It was interesting but there were a lot of characters and I didn't feel like I got to know many of them. Interesting, decent read.
I am so glad that my son picked it out at the Library. The story has depth for childrena nd the illustrations are beautiful. A wonderful children's book. I am going to purchase this one more for myself even than for my son.
This is tricky to rate because it is a collection of short stories and some I would give 5 stars to and other zero. So I rated right in the middle. It was fun to read the month of December as my son said when he pointed out the book at the thrift store - two of your favorite things murder mysteries and Christmas.
I read almost this whole book in one day. Great older children's book. It is fantastical and interesting and for some reason keeps reminding me of James and Giant Peach which is odd since it really has nothing to do with James other than it is a boy character who is lost, in a way. I will have to delve a little deeper into my James and Twig comparison once I am finished. Okay I am finished and I still don't know why Twig reminded me of James. Then I thought maybe it was the illustrations. I just watched a video on visualization and how the eye takes in significant amounts of information that the mind comprehends but we don't consciously comprehend. So maybe the pictures reminded me of the pictures in James. I liked it. I recommend it.
I really liked this book it was less “scientific” than the previous books I have read on the topic. It had a more personal, real life feel which I guess it the point considering a person with dyslexia wrote the book. Glad I bought it so I can use it as a reference.
Definately a checklist. Glad I bought it so I can use it as he makes his way through school. I think it is a good resource.
I read this book several years ago and enjoyed it. Without an audiobook in the queue, I found this was available and took a chance on it. The story is still fun and I love the main character's voice. For the audiobook, I enjoyed the narrator. How she did the howls were great (although to be completely honest after a while the howls did get a little annoying, not the narrator's fault, I just think howling is annoying after a while). The first time I read it I liked it but not enough to read the next books in the series, but I think I will give them a chance now.
I liked this book. It was a fun, quick read. Sometimes I found Flavia to be unbelievable but overall I was willing to supend my disbelief because I liked her so much. I will most definately read the next Falvia de Luce book. Is there any better review than a desire to keep reading? :)
I accidentally skipped the first book in this series as I was looking for cozy Christmas murders. This book was fun and I like the author's subtle humor. I will be going back and reading the first book.
This was a really fun book and a quick easy read. There are parts that scream Lord of the Rings but I didn't mind. I would recommend this to anyone who likes high fantasy and needs a quick read.
I liked this book. She often interrupts the story with numbers and stats which was distracting but overall I understood the purpose of her book. The plight of children is so many places is heartbreaking, the book made me think and want to act, so I think mission accomplished.
This guide was descriptive and detailed. Such a great starting place. I really enjoyed it.
I read a couple of Anthea Fraser books of the David Webb series. I have really liked the beginning of that series. This one just did not grab me and the dialogue was awful. It was as bad as “I think I will have lunch.” “Sounds good, what should we have?” “Oh I don't know what do you think.” Honestly, terrible. I did not like some of the characters either, which does not necessarily make for a bad read but this time it just did not work for me. I did not like that the stalker ex-husband had a mildly heroic role in the end. Anyway, I think I will finish the David Webb series and skip this one.
Again I wish I could give half stars. This book is very popular and that usually puts me off but once I started reading I could not put it down. So why not five stars? I don't know. When I finished the book I was like hmmm can't stop thinking about it but not in a good way. I am interested in reading the next book to see if my opinion changes at all. I liked the characters and the development. I liked the world building, it was truly frightening. So what is my problem? I have no idea. It just did not jump out at me and say give me five stars. I will be reading the next book and I may even come back and change the star rating after...

The writing is beautiful and Inspector Grant is layered and interesting. I have a soft spot for cousin Pat. That kid cracked me up.
I didn't realize until after I read this book that it was published posthumously and I'd like to think Ms. Tey would have revised the obnoxious confession of an ending if given a chance.
I don't listen to many books I've never read before because I found I don't have a great listening attention span. But listening to books while puzzling is working out great for me. I enjoyed this book. It is a mystery from the golden age, and Lomac is an underrated writer. She is no Agatha but interesting characters and a decent plot. I figured out who the murderer was. It still enjoyed the ride (and making sure I was right). Lomac's work is hard to find in print, so I'm glad I could listen and now on the next one. For most mysteries of this era, not reading in order doesn't matter, hopefully, true for this set of mysteries.
This is a really fun young adult book. I really liked the interaction between Tick and his father. Great fun read.
I don't know if it was because I read this on Kindle but I had a hard time figuring out who was talking or whose head I was in. I the mystery and I always love Miss silver so maybe I'll give this a reread with a physical book in the future.
