This is one of my son's favorite books. He can quote the whole thing. Great for beginning readers.
When I got to the ‘who done it' just about three fourths through the book I thought what else can possibly happen. Well... it was great. I enjoyed this book. I like how strong willed Charlotte is, yet she still manages to become the damsel in distress. If you like cozy mysteries you will like anything Anne Perry writes.
I really enjoyed this book. It is dark and twisted (as in twisted faery tales) and it vears ever so close to things I don't want to read about but it never actually goes there (specifics in child abduction). I thought it was well written and very interesting. I loved the main character and his growth. Highly recommend - it is a twisted so you have been warned... (my fav was the sleeping beauty twist - so intersting!)
I did not know when I started reading this book that it is the prequel to Hungry City Chronicles which I have not read but I found this book stood alone very well. I will most likely read the Hungry City Chronicles after reading Fever Crumb. I found Fever to be an interesting character raised to think and not to let emotion take over I found she was still a ‘regular' (how can Fever really be regular) teenage girl. I liked the Engineers, I found them to be humorous at just the right time. I happen to like the references to our time, particularly reference to Hari Potter. I also really liked Kit but I will not say more about that. I liked it. If you are interested in post-apocalyptic novels that are not too terrifying this is a good choice.
I just wrote a beautiful review and lost it. I hate it when I hit the wrong button. But here it goes again. I liked this book. I didn't like the smoking or the partying but I guess it is a moderately realistic view of high school life (although I never drank or smoked in high school). I loved that the relationship between Connelley and Jeremy was about friendship and building trust, not about teenage hormones and sex. I liked the discovery and the honesty. I love Kate. I cried. I recommend.
I liked this book. I love Flavia and the mystery was interesting. But I didn't like it as much as the first. (Maybe it was the mother in me that wanted to protect Flavia from the world and from herself). Anyway, still very intersting and I will definately will read the third book.
This book was interesting and I liked it but I did not find a lot about “god” in the book (even her version of god). I did occasionally feel like I was reading a info-merical for her retreats. But nevertheless I liked it, found it interesting.
I may have to give this book another chance at a later date I read it after a book that I thought was one of the best fantasy novels I have read (which is saying something) and this book was a major downer. I like the premise and the world building. The first few chapters had me. But then when she just walked out of the ultra vampire guarded home in Nevada to ‘talk' with the guy that might know something about her parents. Okay. These godlike vamps didn't notice she was missing. It just made me think ‘whatever' and I could not get over it. The rest of the book felt deflated. So maybe after I read something else equally horrible I will try again and see if my opinion changes.
This was an interesting read. My aunt suggested it and I liked it for the whole ‘as parents we are not perfect' aspect but I just didn't get it. I understand that this is written to her daughters but it seemed most of the story was an inside joke, if you get my meaning. There were parts of it that resignated with me but for the most part I felt left out. I am not saying you should not read it. As far as a touching parent book goes it was ok and it is only 82 pages with huge type and large spaces between sentences. It took me no longer than an hour to read. So go for it. It is was it is.
Read this with my 8 year old. We both enjoyed it. He said he would MUCH rather live with the foxes than with the mean farmers.
I am seriously disappointed in this book. I had such high hopes and then ... well then. I thought the dialogue was painful and the descriptions were boring and the overiding story was predictable and endless and then it ended, kinda. What is it with books and completely open ended endings? I get that it was part of a trilogy (or more who knows) but when you have YEARS between publication, would it kill the author to just wrap up a few loose ends. I did not enjoy it and I will not be reading the third book.
I just leanred that Green Angel and Green Witch (book 1) are combined into a book called Green Heart. I would get Green Heart because reading the two together makes so much more sense. I thought it was a beautifully crafted novel, rather lyrical.
I am going to complain yet again that I wish I could give 1/2 stars, I would have given it 2 1/2 stars instead of three. (Really what do stars mean anyway?)
Ok moving on. I liked the idea of this book. I liked the characters and I even liked the story. I thought Syd was strong but not obnoxiously so. I thought her constant questioning was well questionable but then really if I was being dragged half way across my world by a wizard I guess I would have a lot of questions too. I liked North, perfectly flawed. I did not like his lack of confidence towards the end I am guessing there is a sequel in the works but I still felt he should have been more sure of himself. He is an amazing wizard after all. The timing was a bit off for me. Sometimes I felt like things were really, really slow and then amazing moments went by way too fast. I felt that the author found her pacing towards the end. Overall I would recommend this book to romance/fantasy readers who want something that is not patently romance.
This was a fun read. It won't be winning any Pulitzer prizes, however it was a great escape. Anyone who likes Castle will love this book. I especially liked the play one names Castle/Rook. Clever.
I have been having a love affair with Maisie Dobbs since jumping into the first book and this was my favorite thus far. I read some reviews hinting that this may be the last book in the series and I desperately hope that is not true. I can see that things will be changing and the landscape will be different but I hope Winspear continues the saga of Maisie. I want to find out what happens with her and James. I want to know if she takes on the trust left to her by Maurice. There is still so much to learn about Maisie Dobbs. I love her character, Maisie is strong yet vunerable, fearless yet feminine. I just love her.
I liked this book. I have only one complaint (which judging from the other books I read this weekend is a miracle). I want closure. I know this is part of a series but I want something to tell me this is the end of this book ... little teaser there is more to come but BAM something, anything, it is over. I got nothing ,BUT having said that I loved the characters. I thought they were unique and interesting. The world that is being developed and brought to life is so fascinating. I want to take a history course on the place. I am excited to read the rest of the series and I hope, at least in the end, I will have closure.
I was terribly excited to read this book when I learned that I won it. But then I didn't get it and didn't get and and finally I got it and now I am in the middle of NaNo so I won't be reading it until December. I am still hoping it is good and will report back after Turkey Day.
Kinda a downer comparied with the other two I have read. Hopefully 4 will pick up with the previous brilliance. If not I may be done with Charles.
I really liked the beginning. The middle has a few moments of “what?” for me and then I liked the end although I thought it wrapped up a bit too quick. Overall though, getting past a few things, I liked it very much.
3.5 stars. There were several eye roll moments but the overall mystery plot and main character growth made this a fun read.
This book made me laugh out loud. Especially for budding writers, but anyone will get satisfaction from reading this delightful book. I hadn't read the first books (my mom purchased the book because she liked the cover) so I didn't know the main character was a dinosaur (even with the portrait of Optimus Yarnspinner at the front! LOL) until I read this line “assumes responsibility for the young dinosaur's literary education” I stopped dead in my reading tracks. What kind of book is this? Fortunately, even those few pages had me hooked. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed every minute of this adventure.
This is not my usual read. Post apocolypic stuff. But it was intersting. I don't think I will buy it or read it again. As with most lit like this, I always wish I would end differently but I know the author was being true to the circumstance not everything has a happy ending.
It felt like nothing happened and then boom she understands everything. I'm going to give the second book a try mostly because I bought a bundle. Fingers crossed it gets better.
