This story was so long and drawn out that I felt like giving up on it. It has all these side stories that don't seem to mesh but then eventually did. It just wasn't very entertaining along the way so I almost gave up. I only stuck it out because I want to read all the books in this series and I'm almost done.
Having read 22 books in this series, Kinsey Millhone is one of my comfort foods of mystery.
Another road trip book. While this one was infinitely better than [b:X 24940998 X (Kinsey Millhone, #24) Sue Grafton https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1429811123l/24940998.SY75.jpg 44598633] (lol at listening to the Alphabet in order), it definitely felt kind of ... long. (I suspect the Pinky storyline could have been cut entirely, but perhaps editors stopped trimming the fat on some of these later books?) I like Kinsey Millhone, but like, if you hate the Chardonnay at Rosie's so much, maybe try a different drink? Or go to a different bar?The description of this book gives you basically no information about the story within; it's about a shoplifting crime ring and the mafia-esque man whose family runs the operation. That story was pretty good. I also appreciate the consistency of Judy Kaye reading all the Kinsey books, as she has the perfect voice for this series.I don't find these books to be exceptional or anything, but they're fun, cozy mysteries if you don't mind your cozy with a dollop of sarcasm and complaining about bad wine.
I should have read Sue Grafton years ago. But glad I finally figured it out. This was another great story, and Judy Kaye narration is also great.
At long last I have caught up with my backlog of Sue Grafton books, and what an adventure this latest one was. After witnessing and reporting a shoplifting incident Kinsey finds herself hired by the fiance of the shoplifter who has since died in questionable circumstances. Her investigation leads her to some unsavory characters, one of them a vice cop. Despite various threats Kinsey keeps digging.
