See allI'm partial - I'm from the southwest and I love southwestern literature, and that's why I would give the book 5 stars. Unfortunately, the mystery itself is a little flat, maybe I would give that 3 stars. So I met in the middle with 4. I love this author, I love his characters, and I love the adventures these books take me on. Plus, I get to learn a little Navajo culture in the process.
I'm a big fan of basketball, so I had a lot of fun reading this book which is about a professional basketball player who has gone missing. Unlike many other mystery books that I have read, the middle of this book was very ho-hum to me while the end was fantastic. The clues were all there and wrapped up so nicely!
Started out better than it ended. John Corey is a sexist womanizer that I hate to love. So many great one-liners in this novel, and also an suspenseful intensity that I haven't had the joy of experiencing lately. The early 80% of the novel was fantastic, but the ending... well, it just really annoys me when the bad guy is so BAD.
This is a cute book and Theodosia Browning is a cute character. I like the Charleston setting, and I like that the story revolves around a tea shop. There was nothing amazing about the mystery or the characters, but it was a fun, light read. I may continue this series in the far future, but not just yet.
