Disappointing. The FMC was so immature and childish that it was impossible to overlook the author's constant on-the-nose descriptor of “sunshine”. And the MMC was SUCH an asshole! He kept calling the FMC out for being a smart-ass and unprofessional, but his attitude was so much worse until the dance party scene, which reinforces my former point. There's absolutely nothing to like about either MCs and I read up to Chapter 9. I got tired of reading how much the MMC wants to fuck the FMC even though his thoughts and words have been uncharitable at best about her behavior, actions, and personality.
The writing is pretty good and that just made this all the more disappointing because the author's tone and characters are abysmal. The weird-ass immature portrayal of a pot user is so childish, the fact that the FMC reads 300+ books a year, even though she JUST graduated from college, is unbelievable, and the suspension of disbelief of her getting to and from work on a scooter for WEEKS without her family realizing is ridiculous. Ugh, now I'm mad at myself for reading 8 chapters.
Hands down one of the best Laura Pavlov books I have read. The tension, the chemistry, the romance, the feels, it was all there. I loved every second of this book. Maddox and Georgia are the best. 5 stars for this one because it had all the feels, a very well written plot and (basically) no third act breakup. I was swooning from both characters on just about every page.
If you've read this and you haven't read the bonus story - down load it immediately! It's the best.
Thank you Laura for writing such amazing novels with the best swoon-worthy characters and many life lessons on every page. You're one of my favorite authors.
I'm finally catching up on my Laura Pavlov TBR after finishing up a few projects, and I swear reading her work is like coming home. She has become an auto buy comfort author for me when I want some small town romance. Under the Stars is book 2 in the Cottonwood Cove series. Same universe, but different town, as the Honey Mountain Series. There's even an appearance by our favorite Thomas girls! Under the Stars follows Georgia, a -young woman trying to prove she can do things on her own, and Maddox, the grumpy owner of a publishing house. Georgia is hired to be Maddox's assistant and it's only up from there. This is a workplace and grumpy/sunshine romance filled with sexual tension and spicy pay off! I love Laura Pavlov's books because they're a great small town romance but also tend to hit you right in the feels! Under the Stars is an adult romance, 18+ for sexual content and themes
Overall 3 stars but there were some serious cringe worthy moments for me. First off, she holds a dance party in his closet? Wtf, creepy and she should have been fired on the spot. Also when she was describing his dick 🙄. There were a few others but I'm too lazy to write them out.
A classic boss-assistant romance. Maddox is a tough guy with a soft heart once he accepts that he loves Georgia. He was so sweet with the Christmas presents...
She called him BossMan too many times for my liking. Like almost had to stop reading because it was too much
