This book was definitely harder for me to get in to. Thankful I did the tandem read to keep me going. It got better in the middle and the end was shocking.
There's a whole entire half of this book where I didn't care even a little bit about what was happening. Also: is SJM doing a bit with the characters' ages? Because all of these characters are written like they're 20 years older than the text states they're supposed to be - through this entire series, it's insane.
4.5/5 stars!! Honestly, the character development and growth that we as a society experience during this read is truly astounding. AND just when I thought that there were no more love stories to be written in the sixth book of this series SJM proved me fucking wrong and gave more than one. I was not complaining at all!!!! However, I do think that there was a depth within the relationships that I did not see before in other character's love stories. Somehow... just somehow SJM made this book feel a lot more human (we are following two human characters in this book but THAT IS NOT THE POINT). I am surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, even though it is my lowest rating book in the ToG series, ToD completely swept me off my feet.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked that it gave extra insight in the lives of Choal and Nesryn, but I also wasn't that invested in them so I didn't really need it.
Additionally, it was kind of hard to learn about a new land with very different history in just one book. So many new characters were introduced that I just couldn't keep up. Especially all the children of the Khagan were tough to remember.
I do love that Yrene is back! It really shows great planning that so many of the earlier characters reappear in the story. And in the end the story does tie back to where we left off in Empire of Storms. I can't wait to read the last book and I am very sad that there is only one book left. At least it's the thickest one yet!!
I think this is an amazing book IF you do the tandem read.
I can see how reading this as a standalone can drag on for way too long.
However, the vibes in the Southern Continent are unmatched. Also, the Chaol redemption arc is real. Great character development. He really went from cardboard cutout -> asshole -> likeable. Well done as always SJM ;)
This book was so sweet. I loved the step back from Aelin and the war with Morath/Erawan. We had also learnt a lot of much-needed backstory for the war and what was to occur. It was also beautiful for it to be on another continent, where everything was insane and flowing. A continent that worked seamlessly.
This also made me appreciate Chaol a lot more after hating him, we have Yrene to thank for that!
It's definitely got a high rating although I cannot decide just yet
Edit: I have finally come to the conclusion that I need to rate this book. Apparently, changing ratings also means being able to give a book a rating as well.
I loved this book a lot. Like I said before I loved the step back from the action. I just cannot settle on a suitable rating. I loved Yrene in this, my liking of Chaol definitely grew from QOS and Sartaq was pretty interesting, but Nesryn was pretty boring. If she wasn't, this book would have been an easy 5 stars but I'm being critical.
So a very close 4.5 stars!

Plot um bocado boring e repetitivo, mas ficou melhor nos últimos capítulos quando as peças do puzzle começaram a encaixar.
Personagens novas chefs kiss. As personagens femininas, Yrene e Nesryn, muito slay como já é habitual nesta saga. Sartaq, como não amar um homem que diz coisas tão bonitas como ele...
Ansiosa pela junção de todas as personagens deste tandem read
I kind of found it boring at the start of the book, to the point where I was skimming it lol- but towards the middle AND DEFINANTLY the end it got really good and had plot twists I really didn't imagine to occur. Overall, it was alright and fun to read!
Verdaderamente tiene 3,5⭐️ por que en si la historia me ha gustado y entretenido pero como los personas me daban bastante igual pues sin más en si✨
3.5★
i read this in tandem with Empire of Storms.
okay, i've always had a soft spot for Chaol, so i was happy to read a book about him and his own adventure, and how he overcame his own struggles and new injury. [SPOILERS] →

i'm so happy Chaol found his happy ending! i love him and Yrene. i think they compliment each other so well, with him being a bit rash and her calm nature. the Nesryn and Sartaq chapters bored me a little. but overall it was a fun read, now i can't wait to see how they get back to Rowan and the rest of the crew!
umm i flew through this LOL. it actually wasn't bad but i do see why people do this & EoS as tandem reads now. (tbh i did skim read quite a few chapters in the beginning/middle bc booooring)
now i'm terrified for KoA :c
The first 200 pages or so were boring to me, but after that the story really picks up! I loved the setting of this books and the characters.
Hated every minute of it. Bored me to tears. I would not survived if not for the tandem read. I'm not giving less than 3 stars because I respect SJM too much.
Tandem Read Review
Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn, read in tandem, offer an immersive and masterful continuation of a beloved series. These books are brilliantly crafted, weaving together intricate plots and character arcs that provide satisfying conclusions to questions that have lingered since the series' inception. The narrative is skillfully structured, setting the stage for what promises to be an epic finale. However, one aspect that might not sit well with some readers is the inclusion of a romantic subplot involving a couple with incestuous undertones. This element, while controversial, is handled with a level of sensitivity, but it may still be a point of contention for certain readers. Overall, these books are a testament to the author's ability to create a rich, compelling fantasy world, balancing the weight of longstanding mysteries with the excitement of setting up a grand conclusion.
To all the haters...how does it feel knowing that Chaol FUCKSSSSSSSSS — THATS MY BOI FR
I didn't think I was going to like this book, and then I had cried multiple times by the last page. Worth the slow start. Worth the ~just okay~ bits and characters. Loved Yrene and Nesryn, and otherwise was a bit exasperated by most characters. I read this before reading Empire of Storms (the Romantic Read guide suggestion) and am looking forward to the final chapters of this saga.
It was definitely challenging getting into this after the horrendous cliff-hanger in the previous book, but I ended up really enjoying it! Now onto the finale
I now understand why this is a lot of people's favourite in the series. This one out of all of them kept me enthralled until the end. Chaol had his redemption.
