This is a really great world and I am enjoying it immensely.
I am just furious I have to wait for the third book to come out...
Okay, so this book had me SO invested, I was getting butterflies in my stomach because of anticipation of what was going to happen, especially in the last third of the book! And all the emotions, ahhh. I was so angry at some points! Some of these characters just get to me SO. BAD.
Like, Rand... I mean, I hate her, but then she helped Rowan, but then she's still with Goddard and I loathe Goddard so damn much I can't STAND him. And what he did at the end there, arghhh I was furious! Rowan and Citra/Anastasia being together again at the end warmed my heart, but then they die and we don't know for how long and ugh I'm in pieces, I need to know what happens!!!
4 stars! While it makes me starve for book 3... I do still love the first book the best- but this sequel is so intense and good!!
I loved this book.
The story expanded perfectly for a sequel.
The cliffhangers were staggering...yeah, there are multiple.
The characters developed along with the story and I never felt as though either plot or character development suffered for the sake of the other. Shusterman's dynamic voice and brilliant imagination stole the show, once again. Often, sequels are a let-down, but this is not one of those times. Multiple times I wanted to throw the book. Twice, I was brought to tears—in the same scene no less. I had just recovered myself to continue and I was blindsided not three paragraphs later. Well played, Shusterman.
One thing I will allow for greater specificity is my admiration of Shusterman's tact when it comes to sex. Nothing is blatant. He is artful and subtle—even gentle—in his suggestion that sex is even present in the story. He leaves room for those who wish to interpret his words to include, or to omit. This shows me that he truly understands and respects his audience. Obviously, this is one of many examples where love for his readers shines through, but this detail is both the noblest and the most endearing.
A bit of set up at the beginning but it's well worth the wait. I can't wait for the third book. So hyped.
I am shook.
That ending. Really, the last 50 pages. I can not. These books are so well-written and have such great themes that are often not seen in the YA genre.
Read these. You will not regret it.
A solid read for the second book in a series. There was a lot of progression in the plot and enough of a cliffhanger to make me want to read the third installment.
Scythe was very good; Thunderhead was great.
Scythe could have worked well as a standalone novel, but Thunderhead—for better or worse—has massive cliffhangers on several fronts. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out in book 3.
“I have yet to come across a living vibration, but if I do, I will certainly have many things to ask it. Although I expect its responses may be, well, monotonous.”
I enjoyed this one even more than the first. It has a ton of action and great characterizations - and while it ended quite abruptly and without any real closure, that just makes me more excited to read the next installments! I definitely recommend this series.
