This book is so slow. The topic is super interesting, but I don't really care about some of the POVs and was hoping we'd focus on Citra and Rowan more. I don't think the story is really about them anymore, which is a bummer.
I'm thinking this just isn't my type of writing.
After the first book I was sooo excited to continue the story but was let down so fast. Too many characters which made the pacing sluggish and the distribution of “screentime” felt very uneven. Also personally it felt like too much bad/negative happening? I know it's a distopian novel but it was more of a frustrating read compared to the first book. I also didn't like how the book ended, with all the negativity throughout the book I wished it would end in nicer way to make me actually pick up book 3. I found faradays story line the most interesting and wished it would have gone deeper into the history of the scythe. It makes me sad that this story line was left absolutely open and I have to read the next book to know how it goes while I dislike most of the other story lines. But I must say I liked the addition of the thunderheas stuff. Making him more present and showing more of his thinking and how he works.
+3 stars for: “his eyes are shut too tightly to know anything beyond his own anguish” PEOPLE DIED! I DIED!
+2 stars for: the pure SHOCK of finding out what Tyger was meant for, the FEEDING FRENZY, the great fucking resonance and the cliffhanger UGH
+1 star for: anastasia and maries relationship ugh im so soft for those two
-1 star for: THE DEATH OF THE GRANDDAME UGH MARIE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS “she was good. very, very good.”
-1 star for: such a slow start, this book deadass took me NINE months to finish cause it was such a slog at first

I really love the concept of this series and am very interested in reading the final book. The story is fast paced and exciting. That being said, I do think that this book was a bit too YA for me at times. Dialogue is not Shusterman's strongsuit at least in this story, I felt like a lot of the times he was trying to be dramatic and profound it just came off as trying too hard if not a big cringey. I felt this really began to show through in the last third or so when a lot is happening, and even though I was interested in what was going on and reading pretty quickly, there were moments that I could not take seriously due to the much overly melodramatic dialogue. Still excited to see what happens next, and the ending sequence was very unexpected.
I'm enjoying how well the author is playing out a very human drama within the carefully constructed world where human drama feels completely unnecessary. But, humans gonna human.
The story constantly gives the reader opportunities to think about what it means to be human, to have faith, to hold to convictions, to trust, etc. All while entertaining the future where our every need is taken care of.
The excerpts from the Thunderhead are a delightful alternative view of the story - like the scythe journals in the first book.
My weakness... when a book ends in catastrophe and chaos. I am nothing if not predictable.
4 ⭐️
not as good as scythe, but still decently interesting! to be honest, not much really happened during the first half of the book other than setup for future plot points. loved greyson as a main character, but honestly didn't find his plot to be all that important.
and ROWAN. i'm sorry but what happened to him?? he went from being this skilled antihero to instantly getting captured. he was kinda just... there, but not really there the whole book. not to mention his romance with citra (which was already hard to believe then) somehow tanked even further here
The sequel loses some of the steam that the original created in terms of character development. I was less engaged because, although the Sykes were higher, they felt less personal.

Probably too violent for younger readers. Plus, the philosophy of death may be distressing.
On continue à en apprendre plus sur l'univers des faucheurs et sur cette Terre un peu différente de la nôtre.
La fin est très prenante et plutôt inattendue. Pressé de lire la suite.

We continue to learn more about the universe of the reapers and about this Earth a little different from ours.
The ending is very gripping and rather unexpected. Eager to read more.
What an ending! But it's something which is for sure Shusterman's strength. The story flows until the last quarter or third of the book and then the final mayham starts... I already look forward the last book in the series about Scythes. Perfect choice for all dystopies lovers.
Estoy que no puedo. Con ese final ME QUITO EL SOMBRERO. O sea los últimos capítulos han sido una montaña rusa. Ha sido un libro que he disfrutado de principio a fin, super enganchada. Me voy a empezar el tercero pero ya.
There were some things I wanted to see more of in this next book but overall it was a fun read. I really enjoy stories that draw you in, and have a slower pace. It feels more immersive. And OMG that ending!!!!
“Death must exist for life to have meaning.”
I love the world that the author created because it is twisted and philosophical. There are so many criticisms about humanity and our behaviour. How is easy to corrupt the system and people. The most fascinating thing is how people decide to become gods and decide for others: ether they live or die.
I really recommend this book for people who enjoy distipia and young adult.

I've tried for 6 months to read this but I've just completely lost interest and can't get back into it. May revisit in the future.
Holy shit. The ending left me totally bewildered. I loved it.
There are so many things great about this book, it was funny and still very serious. The way the thoughts of the thunderhead are shown really made it a character and how it loved and hated and how powerless it feels.
Another thing about this that I really liked was the way the scythes are named. And they way Citra's names and how she is referred to in the book is an important way to show how she views herself and how the people addressing her view her.
I cannot wait to read the next one, fuck I have to know how this ends.
