This Spells Love

This was too painful. I think it was on purpose, but the main character, Gemma, was so obtuse that I don't know what anyone around her saw in her, let alone gave her compliments about how smart and great she was. There was an attempt to make her quirky but she was mostly just selfish and childish.

3.5 Rounded Down.

The premise of this book was fine, but I definitely didn't love the FMC as much as I think I was supposed to. Her growth was small and slow, so I felt like I still viewed her as pretty selfish in the end.

Also, although dual timelines is fine, I was hoping for more witchiness and less of a one time spell.

This was a really fun book with such a unique concept, though it was definitely cringey at times. Most of the cringe happens at the begining, though, and most of it does contribute to the story and character development later on, so it's not something that I think the book would be better off without. Speak of character development, I really enjoyed how detailed and complex the characters were. I really feel like the characters were real people with all of their dreams, quirks, hobbies, preferences, etc. one minor thing that I wish was different about the story was that three of the chapters ended in the MC orgasming which, by the third chapter, felt a bit lazy. I would have enjoyed it much more if they were placed differently throughout chapters. For instance, I think it would have been fun to have one sex scene where the MC orgasmed in the middle of a chapter and then had to turn around and go do something else. I feel like this would have added some extra dimention to those scenes. But other than that, I really enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it.

This book was Incredible. Sweet, fun, sexy. Heartwarming. It took me out of a heavy reading slump!
I loved ALL the characters. Gemma and Dax and their chemistry. Gemma and her sister and Aunt Livy!
It gave me lake house vibes in THE BEST WAY. and FEELINGS. I could connect with the characters and ended up crying at the end. Lovely book!!

The idea was nice but some things were repeated so often that it was quite annoying which destroyed the mood. In general still an enjoyable book.

A very cute and fun read. The characters are lovable and the story is fun.

Second Chance / "Glimpse" Type Tale Done Right. This is one of those second chance/ "glimpse" type tales ala the late 90s/ early 2000s movie The Family Man with Nic Cage and Tea Leoni done *right*, complete with wildly alternate lives for the male and female leads in this particular tale. And done by a debut author, and set in a suburb of Toronto to boot. So hey, a lot going on here to make it its own - yes, including brief discussions of a multiverse scenario. So if you like your romances with a tinge of magical realism/ scifi-ish ideas... this one is for you. That noted, if you're among the "clean"/ "sweet" romance crowd... eh, this probably has a lot more thinking and acting on sex than you'd like, including some rather graphic terms... at least according to those types of sensibilities. Again, the actual spice level here is probably more akin to a chipotle - not actually all *that* spicy, but far more spicy than some stomachs can handle and perhaps far more spicy than some minds *want* to handle. Still, as long as you're aware of that up front (thanks to reading this review), you can make up your own mind. Ultimately, I thought this was a particularly strong effort from a debut author, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Ms. Robb is capable of in her sophomore effort. Very much recommended.
