This is the second Freida McFadden book I've read and oh my gosh it will not be the last. It took me about 2 days to read this because I couldn't put it down. Almost every chapter ends on a cliff hanger that makes you want to keep reading. And the chapters are super short which I love. I guessed one of the twists, it felt a little predictable but I didn't guess the other ones at all and I was shocked. The subject is pretty icky though so definitely check trigger warnings. Overall, not the best thriller I've ever read but it was just such a fun read. I loved it!
4.5 just because of the Jay/Hudson twist at the ending, doesn't really make sense
What does Frieda put in these books?!? I can never put any of her books down. Amazing!
3.5/5 - fast read but I literally hated every single character with every fiber of my being lol
3.5-3.75
Quick and easy read, very fast paced short chapters. But the content really threw me off and the ‘twist'.
I don't like the teacher/student relationship. Not my thing at all. But the way my mouth dropped multiple times during this book is a lot. Would be a one star but have two stars for the twists and the ending.
I found the writing to be very easy going and bingeable. This is just not my kind of thriller, but it was a nice and quick read.
3.5 rounded up because while I found 99% of this to be predictable and full of plot holes, the last 3 pages were a twist I was NOT AT ALL EXPECTING, so I would almost recommend it just for that?? (Trigger warnings for lots of creepy predatory behavior throughout, though!)
This book left me speechless, forcing me to reflect on the whirlwind of emotions it evoked. From the captivating opening, the story held me in its grip. While the characters may have tested my patience at times, I had to remember that some of them were teens, and their complex evolution was truly captivating. Unlike most stories, the plot's unpredictable twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end, leaving me wanting more. Ms. Freida continues to impress with her masterful storytelling, making this book a must-read for anyone seeking a thrilling and thought-provoking experience.
Gave me the ick and I somewhat predicted it. Couldn't wait to finish reading so I could put it away and be done.
There were lots of twists in the book and I guessed a few of them. But the author over-explained so many things and it was super irritating.
This was just ok for me.
Uncomfortable in some places due to the topic. But good twist and turns to make for a good thriller.
Surprisingly good. I admit I didn't have high expectations, this is the first book I've read by her and I only did so because of a favorite booktuber seems to like it. It's certainly not fine literature but it kept me entertained and turning pages. The subject matter is pretty disturbing, covering teacher-student “romance” (ew), so be warned.
Confession time: I have not been on the McFadden train. The past books I've read from her have not hit the mark for me, but I am officially a convert with this book. Holy cow, this was so good. It wasn't even slightly realistic, and I hated every single character, but I did not want to put this down. I am still thinking about it days later, and desperately need to talk about it.
Despite some very obvious plot holes and inconsistencies, I still very highly recommend The Teacher. If you want a twisty, disturbing, edge of your seat ride, this is for you.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for this advanced copy and for finally getting me on board with bookstagram/booktok/booktube darling, Freida McFadden.
HUGE Thank you to NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Freida McFadden for this digital copy of her newest release, The Teacher, in exchange for my honest review.
Let me start out by saying this one ... THIS ONE ... is not like the other Freida books I have read. I was not expecting what was on these pages at all. I was truly shocked at the plot/story line and it felt like I was in a lifetime movie. It was crazy.
I appreciate how there were not as many twists and turns and that the ones that were there felt actually shocking. For me, the majority of the twists were not “OH MY GOD WHAT?!” They were more of a “YESSSSSSSSS” if that makes sense. Although there was one that truly, and I mean truly, left me speechless.
Leave it to Freida to be the true queen of epilogues. No one can write an epilogue like her.
I think I”m going to have to give this one five stars because there's just not another Freida book like this one.
Thank you, again, so much for this amazing read. Make sure you grab this on February 6th!!!
