See allThis book was nothing I'd expected yet everything about it affected me differently. I admire Murata's ability to tackle deep-rooted societal issues in a unique, idiosyncratic way such that the message is loud and clear yet not directly spelt out. This was a difficult book to read so make sure you read the TWs. I had to take a break midway as there were a lot of horrible moments, moments where I found it hard to go on with the RAGE I felt. The narrative takes you through the mind of someone rather intimately and the writing's quite smooth and fluid.
I LOVED this edition of Frankenstein and I find Mary Shelley to have been a genius of a writer to have written this at the age of 19 (she had a baby too around the time which makes it even more incredulous to me).
I really liked how she details in on human emotions and not just the expression of them, rather their reasons as well. Something that stood out to me were instances where education was discussed and I find that even about 200 years ago, a lot of the problems and thoughts concerning education were the same. I found that there was a lot a person could take from this book if they wanted to, or merely read it for the plot and that would do too.
It's a short novel but having a nice audiobook version (one by Cori Samuels) made my experience even better.
This book made me FEEL. It wouldn't leave my mind for the days that followed and I'm certain that the characters would remain at the back of my mind for a long, long time.
I LOVED those little fairytales adapted to the mindset of the protagonist. I would definitely recommend this book.
I would rate it a 4.5 cuz I'm a difficult person and very few books make it a 5 in my lists .
I believe everyone interested in understanding why we sleep should be reading this book. It helped me change certain perspectives, and while I may still struggle getting enough sleep, at least I have a better understanding of it now and will be striving harder to improving the quality of my sleep.
I also really liked the writing as the author makes an effort in breaking down hard to understand facts into analogies or simpler language
A refreshing change from the books I usually prefer reading. The story hooked me in midway and I just couldn't wait to get to the end. The descriptive details felt a little overly complicated as I wasn't really able to conjure certain images in my head, or maybe that's just how the writer wanted it to be.
A student of mine asked me to review it for her, and as the genre of the book suggests, it's suitable for young adults or mid/high schoolers.
