The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner

I really did not see the point in this short story, and to be honest- I still don't.

read this in secondary school, just going through and trying to update my gr lmao

Initially,I can't say I was particularly interested in Bree as a character. I picked up her story randomly,many years later. To my surprise,it's quite different from what I expected. Instead of her origin story,the novella focuses on her lifestyle as a vampire and pretty soon trying to figure out what's Riley and Victoria's plan,forging alliances and conspiring to leave the “clan”. Bree's intelligence was refreshing,just like her brief romance with a fellow newborn,Diego. My only issue there is that Diego's character could've been unwrapped better,I really liked him. He seemed to be such a promising figure,except for appearing to be a bit naive towards Riley. I'm aware of the plot twist,but the fact that Stephenie k1lled him off "off-screen" feels kinda lazy. That was unfair,my heart broke for the girl. Same goes for Fred,who possesses special powers like some of the Cullens. I would've liked to learn more about that. All the hints at the camouflage and influencing other's perception of him made me think of Jasper as the extent of his powers are elaborated in Midnight Sun. Shame that I could barely see these characters talk. In true SM style you can't avoid a few somewhat cringey moments,like the sound of vampire kisses etc. Bree (and her group) is hunting humans,obviously,so trigger warning for murd3r. As bottom line I think Bree was a smart character,considering that she's only a 15-year-old newborn. She had no intention to participate in the fight and could've had a promising future. Respect for accepting her fate and giving information to Edward through telepathy as her last act of service. She deserved better.

Do we think Stephenie Meyer might be really into cannibalism, but knows how terrible it would end for her if she admitted it? Because the more she dives into the books, the whole blood sucking thing feels more and more than just a symbol for Mormonism.

It was nice that Stephenie Meyer felt the need to give Bree Tanner more of a voice/story but it didn't really add to the Twilight Saga. If anything it made me sadder for her. I already felt bad for her in the Twilight books and she really had such a small part. If you want to read all things Twilight then read this but if you don't you are not missing much.

Nice side story, not as mushy as the main novels.

I wasn't really expecting much with this ‘novella' and that's pretty much what Meyer delivered. I'm not even sure what the point was. Who cares about Bree? Pointless and uninteresting. She should have written a story from Jane's point of view. We already knew why and how Victoria was doing what she was doing. It would have been much more fun to see things from Jane's twisted point of view.

Selv om jeg ikke ble helt bergtatt av boka, så synes jeg absolutt at man skal lese den om man er glad i Twilight-serien og jeg likte den veldig godt. Det var interessant å lese fra perspektivet til “nyfødte” Bree og om andre karakterer enn bare Cullen-familien og varulvene. Historien er nok litt i lengste laget for å kunne kalles novelle, – og jeg savnet kapitler, egentlig – men det tenker man ikke så mye på, for det går fort å lese boka. Personlig skulle jeg ønske det var mer om Diego, men siden historien er skrevet fra Brees perspektiv, så får vi jo bare lese det hun ser.
Jeg håper at Stephenie Meyer kan skrive flere slike noveller i andre karakterers POV, for jeg liker virkelig å lese dem (tenker på Jacobs POV i Breaking Dawn).

I didn't feel much like this added anything to the Eclipse portion of the Twilight saga, nor did it add much depth to the vampire lore of the Twilight universe. Very much a movie tie-in. Although I do appreciate that Meyer donated a portion of the profits to the Red Cross - for developing their blood banks, doubtless.
