This book definitely found me. At no point did I know where any of the plot lines was going. All of the characters were unlikeable, which is a talent in itself. Couldn't put it down. ✨
I hated this book. All the separate story lines to keep track of and frankly it was boring that I had no desire to see how it all played out.
A solid 3, maybe 3.5. An interesting premise and Marrs knows how to keep your pages turning, with plenty of cliffhanger chapters and exciting reveals as you go. Unfortunately, those same reveals eventually become a bit too soap opera-y for my liking, limiting my enjoyment and feel like the book ends with a sputter. Would likely make a great tv series though!
This is the first thriller I've read, and I believe it's single handedly made me a fan of the genre! The pacing of this book is immaculate with perfectly timed twists to keep the momentum going. The plot lines of each of the 5 main characters are perfectly varied and never once felt redundant. Once you get to a POV cast of this size, I feel like there's a least in character the feels like a drag and is standing between me and my preferred POVs' next chapters, but I didn't feel that once this book.
This is bookclub pick for the month, and I can't wait for the discussion! I will definitely be taking a poll of which John Marrs book to read next!
phenomenal book I loved the buildup as well and when I needed more chapters to become thrilling they sure did the last 150 pages of this book was absolutely amazing and twist packed and the book overall is amazing and its a 10/10 for me.
INCROYABLE
i was initially pissed by the structure of the book, namely the back to back switch between many characters, felt like i would never be able to remember shit about them. oh boy was i wrong
absolutely loved the different plots, the twists and turns were so subtle yet effective. most chapters were short and ended with a cliffhanger, which made me even more excited to know wtf is going on
some happy endings, some less happy ones but overall a really really really interesting & well written book

The One was my first John Marrs book and I can PROMISE you I'll be reading more from him. For fans of Freida McFadden, if you haven't read John Marrs, you're really missing out.
The One follows 5 different individuals who have been DNA Matched. Some are already in relationships, some are single, some are recently divorced. Each character has to figure out what they're going to do based on their results and if they really can fall in love with their Match (that is if they have a match). But, how can they not be? It's based on DNA, and DNA doesn't lie.
The rollercoaster of a ride this book took me on, I don't even have the words. I love thrillers and suspense novels and I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the majority of it, but not with this one! I never saw any of it coming. I will say, if you read this, don't focus on how the different story lines connect. That's not important. Just focus on the stories. You won't be disappointed.
I can't wait for my next John Marrs book!
I can't tell if I liked the book or not. Seriously I thought it was some mystery thriller but it simply had one suspense which wasn't even that good. The book mostly felt like it had 4 different love stories.
What a book.
Stayed up all night, and my jaw dropped, so many times.
One of my all time faves.
Took half the book for me to get hooked - I kept going thanks to the twists at the end of each chapter and the short lengths of chapters. I enjoyed the latter half of the book - the speed picked up and I got more invested.
The idea is captivating and the execution was more gripping than on tv exactly because of all the shit show. That said, jeez, what a shit show indeed lol.

Cool premise, and I liked the swapping storylines. I wasn't super stoked on some of the endings but they weren't terrible either.
this is a fun book because of the twists, some of which i found obvious and others genuinely caught me off guard, but its a one time read which kind of ruins it a little... i dont think rereading it would be fun because without the shock of the twists theres not much going for it, i dont think it's a very good story without them... also yes nick's story was my favorite
3.5⭐️
Very interesting concept. It took me a bit to get into, but I think it was partially because I didn't love all of the characters' storylines. Still a fun and enjoyable read.
If you like Black Mirror and multiple little plot twists, you would really enjoy this.
Wow. This is one of those rare gems that sit on your TBR for years and then when you eventually pick it up you read it in a day! Such a good concept and loved how each of the 5 storylines played out in the end.

The concept is really cool and it was a fun read.
I've seen other reviews describe the book as having “black mirror” vibes, and I'd say that's pretty accurate. You follow 5 different perspectives and they mostly (not all) start out pretty normal and nice, and slowly you learn that everyone is just terrible. I don't typically like stories with virtually no likable characters. But again, I was entertain, just not blown away.
I really enjoyed this book from the get go. It has a cast of varied and interesting characters and the central concept is genuinely thought provoking. It inevitably got a little more predictable towards the end but for most of the book it was a real page turner. The short ‘chapters' also made it the perfect ‘pick up if you have 5 minutes' book.
The book was super easy to get into and will hook you until the end. There are parts that can be a little redundant
