Good premise and (mostly) good delivery. This could have benefited from about 20 more pages to make for a better ending.
I think this book was a tad formulaic, but I don't think that was necessarily a bad thing! I really haven't read a lot of mysteries, and this was a pretty well written version of one. I want to watch some other folks and their opinion on it, especially those who are more into reading mysteries, because maybe they liked it less because it was less complicated? overall, though, I did enjoy my experience and I do not think it was a waste of time. That gives it at least 2.5 stars, in my opinion.
Entertaining but so dumb. It didn't really make anymore sense by the end. The idea was interesting but the execution only left things to be desired. Why was it worse for Bailey to move and start over vs never see her father again? Because of the “leak”? I just don't really understand why that pay off would be worth it? I was half expecting Bailey to be like no I want to give up what I have to see my father again, but she was just like... okay :(. Dafuq????? Idk I felt like the writing didn't bother me as much as some readers because I was listening to the book rather than reading, and the characters had pretty distinctive voices. But I can imagine if I had read the physical book it would have annoyed me.
A generous 4 star but I did overall enjoy this book - it took about 40% of the way in but then I couldn't put it down. Needed a better ending though
This book was excellent! The story kept me turning the pages, eager to find out what happened in the end.
I listened to The last thing he told me by Laura Dave and here are my thoughts.
Hannah doesn't understand what happened. Her husband has disappeared, all that he left was a note saying protect her. The “her” in question is his 16 year old daughter Bailey. A girl who is not a fan of Hannah. Her mother died a long time ago but she has never warmed up.
Owen doesn't answer his phone and then his boss is arrested by the FBI. There is a lot going on with where Owen was working but his disappearance doesn't look good. When a U.S marshal arrives, she knows there is more to Owen and his disappearance than meets the eye and Bailey might just have the key to figuring out who Owen really is.
I wasn't sure what to expect from the book. The synopsis didn't give much away. I saw one big problem with this book.... All the excitement was with Owen and we didn't get his POV, we didn't even get his story from him. It felt a bit anticlimactic having the danger one step outside of Hannah. Don't get me wrong, the building relationship between Hannah and Bailey was great and I enjoyed the twists and turns but it was a bit predictable. The pace was decent enough and I was entertained but it was a bit monotonal. There wasn't any build up.
The audio was good. It was well done. I get the feeling it would have been 3.5 stars if I read it but the audio squeezed me to give it 4 stars.
I think if you like mysteries, you will love this one but if you are looking for a thriller.... I don't
think this is quite it.

3.5-ish
There was a lot of repetitiveness within the writing - she'd say one thing and reword it to say the same thing in the next breath? Kind of jarring when you're listening to it
Started off interesting but Part 3 kind of lost me
Last line was very sweet!
This was a quick read and enjoyable, but I had already watched the series and the series follows the book pretty much to a tee and there wasn’t much additional depth in terms of character development. So in the end it kind of felt like a waste of time.
A twisty turning mystery that never quite gets to a satisfying conclusion. I felt that the dynamic between the main character and her husband wasn't justified by their short marriage before everything went down. Particularly considering the way this book ends. Their love was never really shown to be that all encompassing kind that would drive a woman to keep pressing, to take on such responsibility, for a man that disappeared the way he did with literally no explanations. She just accepted it, and yet all the flashbacks show him repeatedly and consistently not prioritizing her (which, he prioritizes his daughter, that is fair, I'm just saying the intensity of their relationship seems unjustified). Overall the parts of this book that were good were very well done (the sleuthing, the reason he's hiding, etc) but the core relationship feels uneven and stilted to me, and as it's the crux of the whole kit n' caboodle the book didn't quite land as a result.
This book was pretty mediocre at best. It didn't suck me in; I could easily put it down. It was very “meh.” I can't believe they turned it into a show. I gave it three stars because I managed to finish it at least.
This book was ok. I did not love it. Especially the ending. I really did not like how it ended. The protagonist had lots of internal turmoil about the stepdaughter's treatment of her and that got tedious. The story is interesting and I I wanted to know what was going to happen but I'm not sure why this book is still on the bestseller list. It's just ok.

I really liked this! I don't think all of it made total sense, but I was utterly hooked.
I have heard so many good things about this book and it's been on my to read list for a very long time. I am so happy I finally decided to take the leap and read it.
This had me hooked from the very first page. I haven't read a book like this in a long time and it got me so excited about reading again.
The characters, the plot... everything was so enticing to me. This is a book that I could absolutely see being a successful movie or tv series.
I loved reading about the relationship between Hannah and Bailey. Seeing them grow closer together was such a highlight for me. I'm not afraid to say that I cried reading this. Everything about it was so real and raw. I really appreciated every aspect of this book.
This is a comfort read. It's a reread. I will definitely be coming back to read this again in the near future.
This book was good, more emotional than a mystery–which was not what I was expecting but I still enjoyed it. The twist was foreshadowed well but was unexpected, and definitely made everything come together at the end which is exactly what I want in a mystery. The fewer holes the better.
You know how your husband goes missing when his boss gets arrested in a high-profile business bust and within a matter of days you fly to a random city based on your rude stepdaughter's random 4-year-old recollections and successfully talk a mob lawyer into letting you live your life without the fear of being capped by a mob lackey all in exchange for completely writing off said husband? No? Me neither. What. Even. Was. This. Story.
And they're going to make it into a television program of some sort?! Unbelievable. (Just like the plot.)
I thought the book was good, I enjoyed the characters and I liked that the Mc was older. I definitely wouldn't consider it a thriller novel, just a mystery with very little shock factor, but it was relaxing and an easy book to follow along with.
An intriguing story with plenty of twists and turns. I had hoped for a bit more development between the two main characters, but it was still a very realistic relationship.
