I watched the movie before reading the book, and I have to say I couldn't put it down, even though the movie adaptation was very similar. It was very interesting to understand the conflicted thoughts of Katniss. More than I was expecting, I started thinking about all the Panems we still have to this day and how often we ignore them, closed in our little bubble.
When I watched the movie I already knew that I needed to read the book. And I have no regrets about. This is one of my favorite books.
The linear, first-person narrative worked really well and created a quick-paced adventure that does not pull its punches. Addtionally, there is an almost perfect amount of world-building - one that sets the dystopian backdrop with grandure and depth, but also focuses more on the characters and moving the story forward by never going too far off center with unneccsary detail. Those who haven't seen (or don't vividly remember) the movie, should even be surprised by a couple of the reveals later in the story.
Summary: Katniss is living in a dystopian society which forces children from each of its twelve districts to fight to the death in an obstacle-ridden arena once a year. When she finds herself in the midst of this death match, she is forced to decide whether she will protect only herself or whether she will stand up against the system that put her there.
Characters, especially peeta, are developed much better than the movies, tatiana meslany does a great job w the narration, katniss is far more complex, the world is expansive.

After reading the book I also watched the movie! Both were much better Then I thought they would be!
You know you have just read a great book, when it's the only thing you have been thinking of for the whole day.
Although I'm feeling guilty that I binged this book in 2 days. This is easily by far the most entertaining and fun novel I have ever read. I just finished it, but I wish I can go back in time and read it again. That book must have been digested well, in a span of many days.
I loved Katniss so much , how she is thinking, how real her emotions is, how empathetic and smart. Her relationship with Gale and Peeta. The intense fights and emotions inside the Arena, the sounds, the senses. It's like watching a movie, but it's your mind making it. You are living everything inside with the character. Her love to her sister Plim and her avoidant attachment with her mother. The throat cutting fights with Peeta, and Rue's death. The poor vibes that Katniss had, the author's ability to show you genuine poor emotions were so realistic. The fake relationship with Peeta and the media thing made me disgusted but yk, the lovely dystopic things I love. The whole novel fits well with the survival romance theme. 10 outta 10.

I'm excited to read the rest of the trilogy and watch the movie.
This was a re-read, and yet the story was so gripping that I couldn't put it down; finished it in one day. The resilience and courage of the lead characters is awesome. The challenges that they have to go through are gruesome and chilling, to say the least. I usually prefer lighter reads, but this one had me right from the start. Highly recommend, but expect a rough ride.
Wow! I can't believe it's taken me this long to read this series. I'm obsessed!
I've read this book. I know the story. I can tell you with clarity the pieces missing from the movies, but it surprises me after years of exposure. After years of knowing. My heart still thuds in my chest, the air in my lung haults, and my eyes still threaten to spill. Seeing the Hunger Games unfold from Katniss eyes, from beginning to the switch to the next level. Gets me. It's haunts me.
Amo porque se muy bien como continua y termina la historia pero igualmente el final me dejo destruida
PEETA <3
My only regret is not reading this book earlier. I enjoyed it way better than the movie
OH MY GOD. i know i'm 15 years late but it was worth it WHAT THE FUCK that was so good oh my god
Such a great book. Loved Katniss. Looking forward to reading the bloodbath the next book will probably be
welcome to the moment where i found out the hunger games movie is mid and missed so many details. this is so much better.
Excellent book, although Katniss seems a bit oblivious at times. She's meant to be 16, so it's fair, if frustrating.
