What a nice quick read!
I couldn't guess the murderer this time and I liked that fact quite a bit. The author has truly outdone herself with crafting this particular mystery and the details around it.
Loved it, can't wait to read more from the series!
The ableism? Not here for it. It was gross. Everything else, pretty good. I really enjoy how cavalier people are in Miss Marple books about murder. It's such a spectacle. It's like a sporting event that people get so excited for.
This was the first Agatha Christie book I ever read and m now 30 years later I returned to it. There was definitely some nostalgia at the beginning of the book, but then I was drawn in to the story. I was surprised by the solution and by the way Miss Marple investigated. I am impressed with the way the mystery holds up after all this time. I can see this reread setting me on a path of reading Christie books just like it did 30 years ago.
Not sure how many Miss Marple's I've read but I was always surprised at how she picked up on things. I know she's imaginary, but still.
I found the plot complex enough to keep me focused on the story at the moment, and I don't think I figured out who it was until the last few paragraphs, which is how I like a mystery. And I'm so thankful the story isn't as dark and gory as many of the more recent authors are!
Ni en los funerales de mi pueblo hablan tan mal del muerto como en este libro.
Enjoyable little story. I didn't guess the killer. I still don't find Miss Marple herself all that likable.
Cum sa scrii o carte in care Miss Marple e “detectivul” principal, dar ea nici macar nu e in jumatate din carte? O vreau pe Miss Marple, nu pe ceva detectiv de buget...
This is kinda cozy??? Maybe it's just the posh gossiping characters!
Pretty good mystery, the characters were easy enough to remember and each had their own depth.
I did a BBC audio version of this, so it may have been abridged? Anyway, it was well performed!
It might be my mood but charming isnt' working for me. I've wanted to read this forever. I think it's my first Agatha Christie. And, to be fair, everything I know about AC is from a Doctor Who episode but she is the queen of mysteries and most emulated so having read one of her works is a great baseline for reading other mysteries.
I didn't love this. I was curious how it was all going to play out and I did laugh out loud a couple of times, so there is that. I did not guess the solution to the murder (not that I've been in training or anything-seriously, mysteries are not my jam). I can see why fans love it.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a classic and I'm glad I spent some time with it.
That was really enjoyable. When it comes to detective work in books, and trying to guess the culprit as a reader, Agatha Christie's seems the best to me for now. You actually get all the information (not like with Holmes), the answer at the end actually makes sense, and not some weird deus ex machina, and no weird shoved in your throat romantic tension. I do enjoy detective stories where you have a few suspects and the more you read the more you switch your suspicions from one to the other. I understand now why everyone has been the singing the praises of Miss Marple.
I have been reading my way through Agatha Christie's mysteries chronologically and have been relieved to have some familiar characters cropping back up. As much as I love Poirot, I was ready for something different.
This is Miss Marple's second novel and it is SO much less frustrating than the first. She is treated as a wise consultant as opposed to a crazy old woman. I got really tired of the snide, offensive comments about women in The Murder at the Vicarage.
As always, Miss Marple is a few steps ahead of everyone (including you) in this one. The mystery is complex and the characters are varied and interesting. It's definitely worth a read.
Oh that was a good one. No spoilers, but I really like the way things were done.
Dang, I like Miss Marple way more than Hercule Poirot. This was a fun read, with a complicated plot but it all worked without me having to suspend belief, ahem POIROT. Enjoyed this a lot.

Short review. I am not a huge mystery fan. I just don't get the clues and don't solve the crime. Probably shows my lack of intelligence, but I guess that is the way it goes. Agatha Christie is a great writer, has decent characters, but it just isn't my style of book.
