Taking theater in high school and volunteering with community theater when I was graduated this is basically as magical and mysterious the theater felt to me! There is just something special about being a part of a production, it's a world of it's own that end when the curtain closes but will stick with you forever. (I gave it an extra star for appealing to my thespian nature.) The story is just getting started so it is a little slow. They want to establish the world and characters first. The art work in here is really great and the colors are gorgeous. I'm looking forward to the next issue. ~Ashley
If you liked this I really think you will like Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy
While I wouldn't exactly say that I liked it (way too much variation in the characters appearance and humor that I did not find funny (this book got one ‘heh' out of me)) I am curious enough about the plot to keep going and find the characters themselves mostly likable.
this was so cute and whimsical. all the characters were fleshed our, the art was stunning, the world of being backstage with a magical twist was fantastic. i can't say enough good things about this.
This is so cute!!
I went into this one knowing nothing about it except that many people praise it. I figured it was about stage hands, but color me surprised at the backroom which leads to other words/dimensions. It is awesome!
Love the unique idea.
The characters are all lovable, it is quite impossible to pick a favorite. All of them have their own personality and quirks. We have some LGBT characters, some in a committed relationship, some in a budding relationship. I just really loved how non-toxic all the male characters are. It is so refreshing to see them crying and expressing emotions.
Truly loved this book and that ending! What suspense! I'm going to immediately dive into the next one!~
Well, this was charming. If you've read Behind the Scenes!! or Ouran High-both by Hatori Bisco-sensei–you won't find too much new here. The cast is adorable and diverse and a bit goofy, but they love each other and are supportive of each other. The story follows Jory, a new kid at school who would rather draw than join an extracurricular club. But then he stumbles upon the backstage crew at the theater and immediately warms to them. The weird thing here is that backstage, in the basement of the theater, there are magical rooms from which they can get the things they need for sets and props, provided they don't get lost or distracted by strange creatures (who are adorable–ECHO SPIDERS? TOOL MICE?). So whilst it seems to crib from manga, it's still fun and engaging.
