There are just so many chapters of flat action scenes led by obnoxious and weirdly complicated characters I can read. This book made me too frustrated to finish.
DNF at 19%. Protagonist is insufferable and getting worse. Headed to Goodreads to see if there's redemption ahead and other reviews make it sound like nope, so I'm out.
Honestly, this would likely be a 4 star read if the FMC was.... Anyone else.
I disliked her so much. Her attitude was awful. The romance, that could have been magical was lackluster at best because of the slap in the face feminist/girl boss energy.
I am going to read the second one, in hopes I can enjoy the town and characters without Em ruining every single page.
I picked this up on a whim to read while traveling. It has some very fun elements–the quaint town, a unique system of magic, and very sweet romance.
[Slight spoiler!] I was, however, rather frustrated by the ending–perhaps this is meant to be the first in a series, which is fine; but the way the two main plot lines were intersecting, I really wasn't expecting one to be resolved while the other was left open. Plus, there's some cool characters we only see a fragment of!
