This story was both annoying and pointless.
Adena and Mac were the best 2 characters in the previous books. The novella was by far the best of the 3 and that's because we didn't have to read about Kai and Payden.
The sewer scene was gross 🤢
Ummm, how long is the chain they are tethered to? They are getting on and off of horses, running from bad guys, and she is shooting bad guys with a bow and arrow while practically having to drag an injured Kai.
Kai and Payden made me think of middle school drama. "I love him, I hate him, I love him...." Over and over and over.
Aside from the bad plot or really lack of plot, the writing was bad. I'd say about 90% of all sentences were the same in structure. They are all the same complex sentence with a comma in the middle. It was distracting. It's actually kind of impressive she wrote an entire book with one sentence type. If you don't believe me, open the book to literally any page and read 1-2 paragraphs. Once I noticed that I was done.
I finished the book because I was told the ending would shock me. It didn't. I predicted the ending when I read the 1st Kitt chapter.
This story could have been better if it was 150 pages, Kitts character was developed into a real villain, and Mak made at least one appearance. Also, the resistance was a huge plot point in Powerless. In Reckless the resistance was non-existent. They simply said the plan didn't work so we quit.
I currently have no plans on reading fearless but I'd bet it ends with kitt being "taken care of" making Kai king and Payden queen. Happily ever after. Siman and Shuster should know better than to back this.
This? This was my everything /3
I feel like crying, and I rarely cry when it comes to books or fanfics. BUT THIS? I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY I AM SNIFFLING AND WHAT'S UP WITH THE STRAY TEARS ROLLING DOWN MY CHEEKS
WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME, LAUREN ROBERTS 😭😭😭😭😭 I mean, don't get me wrong, I knew the ending because it was quite obvious, BUT WHAT KAI SAID AT THE END???? I FELT MY HEART SHATTEERRRR
I want to cry.
This must be the best book of the entire series for me tbh.
I genuinely was not expecting that ending and I'm a little upset that there is not more
90% of this was an absolute yawnfest, honestly I was so bored. If I had been reading this physically it would have been a DNF, but thank god for audiobooks to power through.
Also WTF was that ending?!
I will continue to see how this ends, but this instalment was not it.
The agony of the push and pull in this one was so stupid. To be honest, I'm only here for Kai and maybe a little bit of Kitt. I couldn't get over the fact that 1 person wrote these characters. I know you have to have a different tone for each but my god, Paeden's character was running 100mph on all the things she was to happen and thinking, what's up?? Don't even get me started on the accidental journal. Seriously, I was rolling my eyes at how stupid things are happening. The ending was so predictable I knew what was going to happen 3 chapters in. Can book 3 just be a Kai and Kitt book?
lauren roberts has single-handedly become one of my favorite authors via this series. not only does the dialogue portray the yearning and unintended devotion of the characters to each other, but her writing in general is so beautiful. the ending has left me in shambles and i am anxiously awaiting her next masterpiece
Needlessly repetitive but boy does that author know how to write a suffering longing fool-in-love poetic male lead.
The story was so good, a lot more action packed in my opinion and did not follow a pattern like Powerless did. The twists were expected but still made complete sense with the story line. I finish with some question unanswered, can't wait for the next one.
It was also way more beautifuly written, I was reaching for my pen so much more frequently. I loved it!
I liked the first book so much more.
I felt this one was soooo repetitive and predictable
The more I think, the more I realise I hated how this book had no plot whatsoever.
Edit: Tell me the purpose of making the 2nd book a filler. I love so many 2nd books, namely The Ballad of Never After by Stephanie Garber, but why is this one so basic
